  • Susan McBain and Gloria Leonard raise the temperature and quality of the otherwise sloppily made sex film CANDY LIPS. I appreciated its heavy incest quotient, but anonymous filmmaker "Cecil B. Damill" has no flair for story or construction.

The luscious McBain, credited as "Susie Humphree", narrates the mainly MOS shoot, beginning with her mama in the bathtub, played by a way too young Jeanette Sinclair. With porn's dirty old man Jake Teague as daddy there's plenty of incest action featuring Susan or her older sister "Lois Luv", an appealing one-shot actress. How the fans related back then to incestuous rape is unknown to me, but several years later Kirdy Stevens' TABOO series on the subject proved immensely (and enduringly) popular.

At any rate "Cecil" milks this theme for all its worth, staging a sensual daisy chain lesbian sex scene of mama, Susan and Lois in bed together making love.

Gloria Leonard, who gets no dialog at all to recite, is an artist and Susan's latter-day mentor as she has sex with various guys, plus some kinky S&M content involving mild whipping. Many flashbacks are introduced making the film's narrative unnecessarily confusing, when the intent is merely to keep the XXX footage coming fast & furious.

Corny ending gets the usual trite title card reading: "The beginning...", sure sign of a film editor's desperation in dealing with jumbled together material.

Obviously of interest mainly to McBain and Leonard fans, with some NYC regulars like Marlene Willoughby also popping up in throwaway roles.
