Hollywood and many of George Wendt’s former co-stars are paying tribute to the actor after news of his death was announced Tuesday.
Wendt died peacefully in his sleep at home, his family confirmed Tuesday morning. He was 76.
“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” a rep for Wendt said in a statement. “He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”
Wendt had an incredible career as an actor, beloved for his starring role as Norm Peterson in all 11 seasons of the NBC sitcom Cheers. During his time playing Norm, he earned Emmy nominations for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for six consecutive years, with the character notably also making cameos on St. Elsewhere, Wings, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Frasier and The Tortellis.

It’s very sad news today. George Wendt, best known for playing Norm Peterson throughout all 11 seasons of Cheers, is dead at 76. His family confirmed that he died peacefully in his sleep at home.
“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” a rep for Wendt said in a statement. “He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.“
Along with Ted Danson and Rhea Perlman, Wendt was the only member of the Cheers cast to appear in every single episode. Norm drank a lot of beer during the series, but the beverage that Wendt was actually drinking was a warm, flat, non-alcoholic drink that was layered with salt to create the foamy head. Sounds… awful. “There I was slamming those down for a whole day. It not only tastes disgusting, I was...

George Wendt, best known for playing the beer-swilling Norm on Cheers, died peacefully in his sleep while at home early Tuesday morning, according to a family representative. He was 76.
Wendt was on Cheers for the entirety of the show’s epic run from 1982–1993. On a series full of beloved characters, his Norm Peterson was arguably the most beloved, with his entry into a scene announced each time as all the bar’s patrons exclaimed, “Norm!” What followed was usually a setup from one of his co-stars followed by a snappy one-liner from Norm.
As a result of that performance, Wendt earned six consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, but never won.
“I have a hard time talking about Norm. It’s like he’s too close to me,” Wendt once said of the character. “I think he’s the toughest to write for because he’s not really anything.

Whether you’re into robots, aliens, or glitchy digital afterlives, this list delivers.
Sci-fi was a staple in my house growing up. We’re talking full “Star Trek: The Next Generation” nights — the only show I was allowed to stay up to watch until 11 p.m. But I’ve always had a soft spot for comedy too, so it makes total sense that as an adult, I gravitate toward shows that mash up the two.
There’s just something awesome about a show that contemplates what’s out beyond our world (or what could be hidden in it) and still makes you laugh. And with Apple TV+ dropping their newest show, “Murderbot,” it felt like the perfect time to round up my all-time favorite sci-fi comedies. So, here are the top seven sci-fi comedy TV shows you can stream right now.

While we’re used to animated shows going on for years after they reach their peak. While The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park have shaped the cultural zeitgeist for generations, there’s something to be said for a show ending when it’s reached a natural stopping point. Big Mouth, Netflix’s long-running series about sex, puberty, and the awkward experiences of youth, closes its door after eight seasons. The Nick Kroll and John Mulaney-led show pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on Netflix and still felt radically progressive about mental health. As it ends as one of Netflix’s longest-running shows, Big Mouth wraps up as only the sex comedy can: with a brash and obscene final season.
Big Mouth Season 8 Plot
With the teens spread out to different schools, they have to engage in new cliques to find their way through the difficulty of puberty.

In this week’s season finale of The Simpsons, Bart and Lisa’s interest in The Itchy & Scratchy Show begins to wane, prompting them to seek out other potential TV replacements. Lisa gets really into Quirk Girl, a not-so-subtle New Girl spoof that actually features the voices of stars Max Greenfield and Zooey Deschanel, who “made it okay for cute girls to be pretty.”
Bart, on the other hand, is watching a new animated series called Screaming Friends, which is full of gratingly loud oddball cartoon characters. “The jokes are great, but what I love is the storytelling,” Bart tells Marge.
Screaming Friends is clearly a parody of Smiling Friends, the beloved, and intensely bizarre Adult Swim series. But fans of the show aren’t exactly thrilled about the apparently uncomplimentary send-up.
Most of the complaints seemed to suggest that the overly-simplistic pseudo-reference was an example of the show being out-of-touch,...

It’s hard not to marvel at the brilliance of Love, Death & Robots. From its direction to the art and sound design, each chapter showcases a wealth of talent, built over more than six years. The latest volume also corrects last season’s misstep by reintroducing various animation styles.
The techniques are stunning, and the craftsmanship remains top-tier. However, the series is beginning to show signs of creative burnout—losing some of its original spark, recycling ideas, and forgetting the sense of fun that once defined it. This should be a blank canvas for bold, imaginative storytelling.
No spoiler content found.
The first episode, “Can’t Stop,” is an exhilarating six-minute string puppet music video directed by legendary filmmaker David Fincher. It features a montage of animated string puppets performing the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ titular song at Ireland’s Slane Castle. This reimagining is stunningly cinematic, with breathtaking visuals...

For a silly animated comedy series, Family Guy is pretty deep, so long as you study the academic analyses found in scholarly forums of the YouTube comments section.
Ever since it first premiered on January 31, 1999, Seth MacFarlane’s flagship series has been up against constant derision from Family Guy’s contemporaries who perceived the show to be a comparatively shallow and gimmicky approach to the adult animated sitcom format. The Simpsons had its famous, long-standing cold war with Family Guy as the two shows traded barbs from across the Fox schedule. Trey Parker and Matt Stone delivered a scathing South Park parody of their least favorite cartoon that still ruffles the feathers of some Family Guy fans. But as so many YouTube users understand, the brilliance of Family Guy is no joking matter, and underneath every 15-second, 144p clip of a Family Guy scene, these fans treat the show like Peter,...

The Mouse House also had CEO Bob Iger, appearing for the first time in 30 years, highlighting the “radical changes that have transformed the business over the last three decades”.
Iger evidently enjoyed himself last year as he was back on stage with an introduction from Super Bowl winners Patrick Mahomes and Saquon Barkley. “I’ve not seen you since you won the Super Bowl,” he said to the Eagles running back.
Iger kept things brief, pointing out that it had been a “whirlwind few days for our company” with the launch of a theme park in Abu Dhabi – its seventh theme park around the world, as well as news about the new ESPN streaming service.

Seth MacFarlane may understand the male libido better than any other comedy writer, so long as that libido belongs to a male who definitely paws through his crush’s trash to steal her toenail clippings.
Despite the lyrics of its own theme song, Family Guy isn’t the kind of show to shy away from mining human sexuality for a bit. Blue humor is the cornerstone of MacFarlane’s comedy empire, but the Family Guy creator’s relationship with the primal urges of the human man are so much more complex than the average cutaway joke, according to one man who is clearly grappling with some very complex urges.

Fox is switching things up like never before during the 2025-2026 TV season, and it’s bad news for fans of scripted TV.
The network will air just two live-action scripted dramas: Doc and Murder in a Small Town.
The drama duo will air on Tuesdays, meaning every other weeknight will be devoted to unscripted offerings.
(Courtesy of Fox)
After so many cancellations and so few scripted series in the network’s pipeline, it was inevitable that executives would reach this decision.
But still, it stings for many reasons. It showcases how far the broadcast networks have fallen regarding ratings, impacting profitability.

Seth MacFarlane may have made network upfront history on Monday, opening the NBCUniversal presentation with a song-and-dance routine boasting the chorus, “NBCU has the shit you’re after!”
That was likely the first time any network boasted that they’re “the shit” in their message to advertisers — but it was very on brand, of course, for MacFarlane, whose overall deal with the company has so far generated a live-action Peacock series based on his “Ted” film franchise, and now an animated take on it as well.
Among MacFarlane’s competitive barbs in his number, which kicked off the two-hour NBCU upfront: “You can give all your money to Netflix/ just to have your commercials on auto play/ But I got news, buddy, all your views are the Tinder Dates just busy getting laid.

It’s become an upfronts tradition for networks to mock their competitors. But during NBCUniversal’s upfronts, “Ted” and “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane took the ribbing a step further, singing an elaborate song complete with smiling backup dancers and several cocktail breaks that took shots at all the major TV players.
First up was Netflix. “You can give all your money to Netflix just to have your commercials autoplay,” MacFarlane sang. “But I got news, buddy, all your views are Tinder dates just busy getting laid.”
He had kinder words for Netflix’s streaming rival Hulu, singing, “I can vouch that they’re mostly decent folks,” a nod to the fact that “Family Guy,” “American Dad,” “The Cleveland Show” and “The Orville” are currently available to watch on the streamer. But that still doesn’t mean he’s going to watch “The Bear.” “It’s a comedy with everything but jokes,...

American Dad! is coming back to its home network at Fox next year after the network gave the Seth MacFarlane animated comedy a whopping four-season renewal. Now we know why Fox decided to swipe the series from its second home. Fox was the original broadcaster for the series, which centers on a right-wing CIA agent who is raising his family alongside a quirky alien, and ran on the network from 2005 until 2014 when it moved to TBS until March 2025. Now, Fox is bringing the show back, and on a conference call Sunday (May 11), the executives of the network revealed why. In response to a reporter’s question about why the series was picked up by the network (and whether that was contingent on the renewals of the other three shows in the “Animation Domination” lineup), CEO Rob Wade explained, “Obviously, we’re really delighted to have our partnership with our friends...

Seth MacFarlane and Peacock appear to have a strong creative partnership, with the streaming platform teaming up once again with the Family Guy creator for a brand-new animated comedy. While MacFarlane already has his Ted live-action prequel series on Peacock, he's now set to expand his presence even more with a full-fledged Ted animated series.
While plot details are being kept secret, Ted: The Animated Series is said to be a sequel. It will continue the story after the first two Ted movies. Those hilariously funny comedy films, directed and co-written by MacFarlane, centered around the unexpected bond between a man named John Bennett and his foul-mouthed, magically sentient teddy bear, Ted. In addition to his behind-the-scenes work, MacFarlane also voiced the iconic character of Ted in the movies. He also currently voices the talking stuffed animal in the prequel series.

Fox will be the place to go for animated comedies on broadcast television. After recently giving several animated shows big renewals, three more have been confirmed.
Per Deadline, Fox has just renewed the following animated shows: Krapopolis, Grimsburg, and Universal Basic Guys. The news follows the network recently giving four-season renewals of the long-running animated shows The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and American Dad!. In the case of American Dad!, the series also is making its return to Fox after making the move from TBS, though it originally aired its first nine seasons on Fox.
Krapopolis is currently in its second season, which is concluding this month. The show, created by Dan Harmon, imagines a more zany version of ancient Greek lore where humans interact with gods and mythical creatures. It had previously been renewed through Season 4, and the new renewal by Fox will guarantee a fifth season of the show.

No one loves a good parody like the folks over on "Family Guy." From poking fun at the works of Stephen King to riffing on "Star Wars" (but don't expect to ever see a "Family Guy" parody of the prequels), the animated sitcom reigns supreme in the spoofing department.
Some of the best "Family Guy" episodes are the ones that go heavy with the lampooning. Case in point: "HBO-No," a season 20 episode that aired in 2022 and goes hard on some of the greatest HBO shows of all time. Okay, saying this is one of the best episodes of the show is definitely a bit of a stretch, especially when competing with hysterical heavyweights like "Blue Harvest." Still, "HBO-No" is downright hilarious. The entire episode is dedicated to throwing jabs at "Game of Thrones," "Big Little Lies," and "Succession." If Peter Griffin masquerading as Brian Cox's Logan Roy isn't enough to pull you in,...

Fox has greenlit more seasons of three of its adult animated series: “Universal Basic Guys,” “Grimsburg,” and “Krapopolis.”
“Grimsburg” and “Universal Basic Guys” are both returning for Season 3, while “Krapopolis” has been renewed for Season 5.
“Krapopolis,” which has received a Season 5 order ahead of Season 3, “is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series centers on Deliria (Hannah Waddingham), goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. As petty as she is powerful, Deliria is only interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. The additional series regulars include Kyle Mooney as “Apollo” and Liz Richman as “Ruth.” The series comes from UCP (a division of Universal Studio Group), Fuzzy Door, and MRC.
Following its January 11, 2024, launch, season one of Ted broke records as Peacock‘s most-watched original...

Peacock has given a series order to “Ted: The Animated Series,” the working title for an animated spinoff of the 2012 and 2015 live-action comedy film franchise created and directed by Seth MacFarlane, who starred with Mark Wahlberg.
The order further expands the franchise following the success of “Ted,” Peacock’s live-action prequel series.
MacFarlane of course will voice Ted, the foul-mouthed, magical talking teddy bear at the center of the story, with Wahlberg providing the voice of Ted’s human companion, John Bennett.
Also returning from the original films are Amanda Seyfried as John’s girlfriend, Sam Jackson, and Jessica Barth as Ted’s wife, Tami-Lynn.
Joining them are Kyle Mooney as the voice of “Apollo,” most likely Ted and Tami-Lynn’s adopted son from “Ted 2,” and Liz Richman (“Little America”), who plays “Polly” on Peacock’s “Ted” live-action series and will voice “Ruth” for the cartoon.

“A hundred years Rick and Morty” has long been the rallying cry of the show’s fandom, but, on average, an animated comedy can’t go longer than a couple decades before everyone wishes it would finally die.
On May 25th, Rick and Morty Season 8 will premiere on Adult Swim, more than 11 years after what became the channel’s biggest hit premiered one snowy evening in December, 2013. In the time since the show first launched, the Rick and Morty writing staff and its notoriously rabid online fandom have transformed the series from a nerd-beloved comedy show to a cultural force capable of forcing McDonald’s to change its menu, as the brave fast food workers who survived the Szechuan Sauce calamity of 2018 can attest.

Breaking Bear has just been announced, and the animated show is set to feature a standout voice cast that includes Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Fraser will be best known to many for leading the cast of The Mummy (1999) and its two sequels, but he has also appeared in a host of other film projects, recently experiencing a major acting comeback with his Oscar-winning performance in The Whale (2022). Gellar, on the other hand, rose to fame around the same time with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and recently appeared in Dexter: Original Sin.
Per Deadline, Fraser, Gellar, Annie Murphy, Elizabeth Hurley, and Josh Gad have been cast to lead Breaking Bear, a new adult animated series from Tubi. The series, which is created by Julien Nitzberg, is said to parody the tropes of mobster movies, with the report stating that the show will be akin to a comedic combination of Yogi Bear and The Sopranos.

From becoming the youngest showrunner in television history with The Family Guy to being berated by the creators of The Simpsons and especially South Park, Seth MacFarlane has had a complicated reputation in Hollywood. This isn’t to say his entire career has been confined to The Family Guy cutaway gags, as in recent years, the animator has branched out with shows like The Orville.
Speaking of his sci-fi venture, Star Trek star Jonathan Frakes even deemed McFarlane’s creation on brand with Roddenberry’s iconic saga, as both of them leaned toward similar goals.

Two shows have been guaranteed to continue on Fox while another wasn't so lucky. Unfortunately for the latter, it's going to be a one-season run.
Per Deadline, Rescue Hi-Surf has been canceled after one season. The show, which follows Hawaiian lifeguards, wrapped up its first season on March 31. As the show was not a breakout success on the level of Doc, which was renewed for a 22-episode second season, the decision was made not to move forward with a second season.
It's an unfortunate update for fans of the show, especially as it debuted strong with a premiere that pulled in 4.7 million Live+Same Day viewers. According to the new report, there had still been consideration to renew the series, in part due to the involvement of producer John Wells. The producer's previous work includes titles like ER, The West Wing, and The Pitt. However, the series was also expensive...

In another universe, Seth MacFarlane grew up on Death and Possessed instead of Lerner and Loewe, and every Family Guy musical number sounds like the new Griffin single “Lois Griffin Crashes Out in a Basement After Being Cucked as a Confused Band of Suburban Teens Improv Over Her Screams of Terror.”
The musicality of Family Guy is an inextricable part of the show’s success, but with respect to MacFarlane’s masterful singing ability and comprehensive composing career, the typical tunes of the animated comedy are a little, well, old-fashioned. Down to the show’s very theme song, the music of Family Guy evokes a bygone era of American entertainment, before the popularization of the electric guitar and distortion, back when the heaviest and most brutal song in popular culture was Jud Fry singing “Lonely Room” in Oklahoma!.
These suburban Family Guy fans, on the other hand, have no qualms...

Seattle's favorite Animal Control office won't be shutting down just yet. As expected, Fox has picked up its flagship live-action workplace comedy series starring Joel McHale for a fourth season, meaning more animal-based antics are to be had with Frank Shaw and his rag-tag team of fellow officers. The series has continued to be a hit both critically and in terms of ratings for the network, being sold to over 70 international territories and more than doubling its live + same-day ratings thanks to streaming on Hulu. It'll be back in time for the 2025-26 season, locking up Fox's comedy slate with the also-renewed Going Dutch.
Through three seasons, Animal Control has followed the jaded and cynical Frank (McHale) as he learns to embrace life as an animal control officer after being fired from the police force for trying to expose corruption in the department. Fortunately, he is almost supernaturally capable of understanding animals.
