Daytona Beach Weekend

The 1965 movie "Daytona Beach Weekend" was a beach party love story directed by Bob Welborn and filmed on Daytona Beach starring Don Jackson, Steve Harkins, Linda Poland and Sue Sheen (Miss New York State 1964) featuring the music of Del Shannon ("Runaway" and "Stranger in Town"), Rana "Rayna" Leggett ("Hopelessly" and "You're the Boy for Me"), The Offbeets ("Double Trouble, "She Lied", and "Hey Little Girl") and the comedy duo Houston & Dorsey ("Wreck of the John B" and "Hootenannie Annie"). The movie was filmed in 16mm and converted to 35mm for theater distribution. The movie reportedly was made for $2.5 million and grossed approximately $8.5 million--mostly from drive-in movies and late night theater showings around the southeastern states. "It's a blast! 60,000 fun-hungry kids blow off steam in one big beach rumble. A swinging movie for the swinging generation" proclaims the movie's poster.
