Vatel is the cook of Prince Condé. When the prince invites Louis XIV to hunt, he has to give lavish banquets in order to fall in his favor. But when Vatel falls in love with the king's mistress, love and duty come into conflict.
When the cooks discover that the cream has gone sour, Vatel whips it with some sugar and orders the servers to present it as "a new version of Chantilly cream". In actually, real Francois Vatel is credited as having invented Chantilly cream.
