    Warning: Spoilers
Available at long last in this country, THE KID (based on a Chinese comic book character, and not to be confused with the Charlie Chaplin classic) is most notable for its young star- Bruce Lee. Lee's charisma is evident even this early in his career (this may be his first film, and one of his co-stars is his own father) and it would've been fun to see an entire series of films based on this character. The only complaint (being a lifelong Bruce Lee fan) is that he isn't on screen as much as I would've liked. When he is, he steals the show- and, as stated, the character he plays is a likable but pugnacious brat whose exploits among the dim-witted adults are fun to watch. Had Lee been given more screen time, my rating would've no doubt been higher.

THE KID is a dated black and white social comedy from Hong Kong, low budget and dated enough to be nondescript for many modern viewers. However, it's notable for featuring a starring role for none other than Bruce Lee, who of course went on to become the world's most famous martial artist. Lee plays a precocious child here, involved in a life of petty crime and getting up to all sorts of comic hijinks. He has a likable presence even at this stage of his career, although if you're looking for kung fu you'll be disappointed. THE KID is a broad character comedy, laughing gently at character types rather than going for a witty approach.
