THE WILD PANTHER is a contemporary action thriller made as a collaboration between Taiwan and South Korea. The various stars include the likes of Don Wong and Eagle Han, actors best known for their roles in period kung fu cinema being made a few years previously. The first thing you notice about this film is how cheap it looks, a cheapness reflected in the clumsy plotting and confusing characterisation; nobody is really introduced here so it all gets a bit perplexing before long. However, THE WILD PANTHER is better than expected. It has plenty of violent action sequences and the plentiful fight sequences are fast and furious, with choreography that isn't awful. Expect bad fashions and worse hairstyles, and random music stolen from the likes of THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. It's no masterpiece - it's not even a particularly good movie - but it is fairly watchable.
