‘Law & Order: Svu’: Two Executive Producers Leaving Ahead Of Season 27
Image
There are more departures from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, headlined by Mariska Hargitay, this time behind the scenes. Writer/executive producer Julie Martin and director/executive producer Norberto Barba are leaving the executive producing team of the venerable NBC crime drama from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, which was just renewed for a record 27th season, sources tell Deadline. Barba will continue as a director, I hear.

Reps for NBC and Wolf Entertainment declined comment.

As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this month, recent Svu cast additions Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano also are leaving as series regulars after one and three seasons, respectively.

The changes come amid another round of tough renewals at the broadcast networks accompanied with cost-cutting mandates, including for all Wolf Entertainment dramas at NBC.

Additionally, Svu is undergoing a change at the helm, with Michele Fazekas joining as new showrunner, the first woman to run the veteran procedural.

NBC tweaks Law & Order fall lineup after devastating cast departures
Image
Law & Order laid the foundation for the interconnected procedural dramas that dominate networks today. It's hard to imagine a TV landscape without the franchise, and yet, it has been subjected to the same trials and tribulations as its peers. Svu has been forced to write two detectives off before its next season, Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano) and Kate Silva (Juliana Martinez), and now, the franchise will have a new show following it on Thursday nights.

Law & Order used to hold down prime time on Thursday night by itself, between Law & Order, Law & Order: Svu and Law & Order: Organized Crime. The third of these shows was moved over to Peacock, however, meaning there's a huge vacancy where the Christopher Meloni-led series once was. And the network is going to try to fill it with a new series (again).

If you're struggling to think of what show...

‘Fallout’ Gets Season Three Renewal Ahead of Season Two’s Arrival This December
Image
Production recently wrapped on the second season of Prime Video’s “Fallout.” Today, Prime Video announced that it has renewed its hit series for a third season.

As for when to expect season two? Look for it to arrive this December 2025.

Based on the mega popular video game, “Fallout” is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have…

“200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.”

Season two will pick up from season one’s finale and “take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas.”

“The holidays came a little early this year – we are thrilled to...

NBCUniversal Has Hoop Dreams As Sports Set To Dominate Upfronts
Image
Last year, it was movies. This year, it seems, it’s all sports. The Upfronts kicked off at Radio City Music Hall with NBC reminding advertisers that it will soon have NBA basketball.

The company scored the first basket at the three-day event that will likely be dominated by live sports with the news that Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, had signed up to be a special contributor to its NBA coverage.

“Sports is definitely having a moment in the industry and, God knows, you’ll hear the word ‘sports’ ten-thousand times this week, how some sports are moving to streaming or other platforms are adding a day or two to their schedule,” said Mark Marshall, Chairman, NBCUniversal Global Advertising & Partnerships.

But Donna Langley, whose team just put together its first fall schedule (sort of) that includes primetime basketball, said that she hopes its $2.5B annual deal will have a positive impact on the rest of its programming.

Langley, Chairman, NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studio, said, “Every game will be a new event, a weekly tentpole that maximizes the impact of the league across our platforms and delivers a sizable audience watching in real time for our advertising partners. By adding NBA games to the schedule, we’ll build on decades of sports programming on NBC and create a halo effect around the entire entertainment schedule. So whether you’re a Bravoholic, a cinephile, a sports fanatic, news junkie, or simply can’t miss Weekend Update, our franchises offer something for everyone, which means our advertisers can, without question, reach the broadest possible audience.”

NBC’s October schedule features less than a third scripted programming with only one new series – Jimmy Fallon’s marketing reality series On Brand, with The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, starring Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe, who were on stage, being added at some point over the fall.

There were a handful of other NBC stars on stage including David Alan Grier and Wendi McLendon-Covey from St. Denis Medical, which is returning for a second season, Reba McEntire, star of Happy’s Place and a coach on The Voice, and S. Epatha Merkerson from Chicago Med.

“One of the many powers of this portfolio is the ability to build and maintain audiences season after season whether it’s newer comedies like our show St. Denis Medical or iconic legacy franchises like Law & Order or Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago Pd, Chicago Sanitation and Chicago Municipal Zone,” Grier joked.

The Upfronts presentation leaned heavily on Peacock programming including The Office spinoff The Paper and Dig starring Amy Poehler.

Poehler, who was joined on stage by her “work husband” Tina Fey, said that production on the show, which reunites her with her Parks and Recreation cohort Mike Schur, starts this summer.

The company showed a trailer for The Paper, which comes from The Office’s Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, which featured The White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore as a female Michael Scott. “You’re going to get tired chasing my pretty little butt around with that camera,” she says in the clip.

Oscar Nunez, who played Oscar Martinez in The Office, is back, this time in Toledo, Ohio. “Oh, no, not again, I’m not agreeing to any of this. Don’t you guys have enough after nine years, I’m starting over with another of these things,” Nunez’s Martinez says in the trailer.

“I told Mr. Greg Daniels that if Oscar came back, he would probably be living in a more, bustling, cosmopolitan city. Greg heard me and moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio, which has three times the population of Scranton, so it was nice to be heard,” joked Nunez.

Domhnall Gleeson plays idealistic journalist Ned Sampson. “Fans of The Office will be delighted to see Oscar back at work. Some older fans will look at me and be glad that Meredith is also coming back. That’s a red hair joke,” said Gleeson.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth Banks, Keke Palmer and Dakota Fanning were on stage to promote The Miniature Wife, The Burbs and All Her Fault, respectively.

Banks, whose series is a marital comedy also starring Matthew Macfadyen, joked that her relationship with NBCU goes back to the time that she did a spot on Third Watch, which ran between 1999 and 2005, as well as an appearance on Law & Order: Svu, which Palmer also starred on when she was 12.

“Every person you see up here today, every performance, trailer or clip actors have prepared for you, brings us back to four little words, the mantra that greets us every day in the headquarters in Los Angeles: Above All Else: Entertain, and that’s what we do best,” concluded Langley.

Many Dick Wolf shows have been renewed (but not On Call season 2)
Image
Dick Wolf is a very busy man, and has found so much success creating two well-known and franchises at NBC - Law and Order and One Chicago. The creator has got the procedural formula down, so many had high hopes for his new one on Prime Video. Unfortunately, On Call season 2 is not happening as Prime Video has cancelled the show, and the series has become a short-lived one. On the platform at least.

The Troian Bellisario-led serial drama first premiered Jan. 9, 2025 with eight episodes on the streaming service. So Prime Video waited about four months to announce the fate of the show. That's actually not too bad, as other projects have to wait longer sometimes. Upon its release, On Call, created by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, got mixed reviews from critics but did well with the audience overall.

Many viewers may have come into it not having watched other Dick Wolf shows.

Law & Order and Svu Have Been Renewed, But Will Budget Cuts Ruin Their Next Seasons?
Image
If you’re a Law & Order fanatic, NBC has good news for you — both Law & Order and Svu have been renewed.

Sadly, there’s no news yet on Law & Order: Organized Crime, which is only halfway through its season on Peacock.

Hopefully, we’ll get good news soon. In the meantime, I’m worried about the budget cuts NBC is making as part of the renewal deal.

(Will Hart/NBC) Law & Order Will Probably Have Worse Budget Problems Than Svu

Budget cuts are a concern for both shows in the franchise, but Law & Order: Svu often manages to produce each episode for a relatively low price despite all the factors that should make it one of the most expensive shows on TV.

It is filmed in New York City, has been on for a long time, and has two big stars at its helm, yet Deadline...

Suits LA (2025)
NBC Cancels Suits: LA and Four Other Series in Lineup Revision
Suits LA (2025)
NBCUniversal’s president of program planning strategy, Jeff Bader, confirmed that Suits: LA will end after its first season, joining Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, The Irrational and Found on the cancellation list. The decision clears slots for the NBA’s return and reflects shifting viewer engagement.

“Shows must connect with audiences and show signs of future growth,” Bader told reporters. “Suits: LA ran briefly but didn’t meet our expectations. We reviewed linear ratings, streaming figures and audience trends before making tough calls.”

The Suits offshoot, starring Stephen Amell with guest turns from Gabriel Macht and Rick Hoffman, averaged 2.1 million viewers over 11 episodes. The Irrational led the cancellations at 4.4 million, followed by Found (3.7 million), Lopez vs. Lopez (2.3 million) and Night Court (2.2 million).

Bader said NBC explored moving these titles to Peacock but no pickups are planned. Chicago Fire remains the network’s top drama at 7.7 million viewers, earning renewals for that series,...

NBC’s Jeff Bader Answers For Cancellation Of ‘Suits: LA’ & More: “It’s So Hard To Talk About Shows And Which Ones We’re Bringing Back”
Image
There was a lot of excitement about reviving Suits, which made the cancellation of the Stephen Amell starrer Suits: LA on Friday all the more surprising.

When asked over the weekend why the spinoff from Suits creator Aaron Korsh had to go, NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy Jeff Bader admitted “it’s so hard to talk about shows and which ones we’re bringing back.”

“Suits: LA had a very short run, but it really has not resonated [with audiences in] the way we thought it would,” Bader told reporters during a press conference on Saturday. “There can be many, many reasons why it hasn’t resonated, but it’s just not showing the potential to grow for us in the future, unfortunately. Those are the decisions we had to make.”

Bader said there were number of considerations they had to make before spiking Suits: LA, along with The Irrational, Night Court,...

‘Grosse Pointe Garden Society’ Not Canceled Yet, NBC Ponders Move to Peacock
Image
While the chances for “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” to score a Season 2 renewal from NBC aren’t looking great, there’s possibility the freshman drama series could move to Peacock — a potential fate that is “still being discussed” according to one NBC scheduling exec.

The drama series from Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs was not included in NBC’s 2025-26 schedule, which revealed Season 2 renewals for “Brilliant Minds” and “The Hunting Party” alongside all three “Chicago” series, “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu.”

Bader noted a potential move to Peacock was discussed for every show that did not make the cut for NBC’s lineup next season. The impending move of the NBA to Tuesdays nights prompted a flurry of cancellations Friday, including dramas “Suits LA,” “Found” and “The Irrational,” and comedy series “Night Court” and “Lopez vs Lopez.”

A potential move to the NBCUniversal-owned Peacock was...

Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe Comedy Series, the NBA Lead NBC’s 2025-26 Lineup
Image
NBC has greenlit a new comedy series starring Tracy Morgan and Daniel Radcliffe, which leads the network’s 2025-26 alongside the NBA.

The new series, titled “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” focuses on a disgraced former football player (Morgan), who is on a mission to rehabilitate his image, according to the official logline. It is executive produced by “30 Rock” creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” will debut in the 2025-26 alongside returning comedies “St. Denis Medical” and “Happy’s Place” which took the coveted comedy slots on Monday and Friday upon the cancellations of “Night Court” and “Lopez vs Lopez.”

“The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” will either be slotted after “St. Denis Medical” on Mondays or after “Happy’s Place” on Fridays, with an additional slot open for NBC comedy pilots — which include “Stumble” from Jeff and Liz Astrof and...

Night Court's Renewal Fate at NBC Revealed Following Season 3's Big Cliffhanger (& Major Big Bang Theory Reunion)
Image
The article includes spoilers for the Night Court Season 3 finale.

NBC's Night Court sitcom was a revival of the series of the same name that aired between 1984 and 1992. The series starred The Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch in the leading role.

Night Court just released its Season 3 finale on May 6, which left fans in shock. NBC didn't spend too much time debating whether to renew or cancel the multi-camera show, and revealed its unfortunate decision just days later. Per Deadline, NBC has officially decided not to renew Night Court for Season 4.

Night Court premiered on NBC in 2023 and received enough good viewership numbers to receive a renewal for Seasons 2 and 3. However, the show's luck ran out right after one of the biggest cliffhangers. Season 3, Episode 18, titled "A Decent Proposal," aired on May 6, and it featured yet another The Big Bang Theory reunion, bringing over Simon Helberg, who played...

'Law & Order' and 'Law & Order: Svu' Both Renewed at NBC
Image
The Law & Order franchise is arguably one of the most successful police procedural crime dramas in television history. What began in 1990 with the original Law & Order, turned into decades of viewers watching episode after episode of investigations and apprehensions of suspects by seasoned detectives. Fast-forward to more than 30 years later, the original series and the first spin-off, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, are still going strong. And things are set to get even stronger, as NBC has decided to renew both.

According to Variety, the renewals will mark Law & Order's 25th and Svu's 27th seasons. They were the last in the Dick Wolf television universe to be renewed, as all three Chicago series are making a return. In addition, another series in the franchise is also in good standing. Law & Order Svu Season 26 Episode 21’s Rear Window-Inspired Case Delivers A Powerful Penultimate Episode
Image
Whew! Talk about a disturbing case.

After a mostly lackluster 26th season, the penultimate episode of Law & Order: Svu delivered a dark case that was impossible to look away from.

From beginning to end, this Hitchcockian case kept the audience guessing while the cops investigated a particular heinous crime.

(Ralph Bavaro/NBC) How The Cold Open Was Similar to the Classic Movie Rear Window

I’m thrilled that the cold open was actually short, rather than wasting 10 minutes before getting to the point.

Even better, it was a takeoff on the Hitchcock classic, Rear Window, that went in an even darker direction than the original.

Rear Window stars Jimmy Stewart as a housebound man who witnesses a murder by looking through a telescope at his neighbors’ windows to pass the time, just like the guy in the cold open.

Law & Order has reached its landmark Season 25 after the most recent round of renewals from NBC. The flagship Dick Wolf police procedural was renewed alongside spin-off Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for their Season 27. Law and Order originally ran from 1990 to 2010 and was picked up again in 2022 for a 21st season. When the series was revived, it was also renewed for three seasons, bringing us to its landmark 25th season.

Two original cast members returned: Sam Waterston as District Attorney Jack McCoy and Anthony Anderson as Detective Kevin Bernard, along with a slew of new characters. Hugh Dancy (Ella Enchanted) as Ada Nolan Price, Camryn Manheim as Lieutenant Kate Dixon and Odelya Halevi as Ada Samantha Maroun were all announced. In the years since, Waterston departed, with the series bringing in Scandal's Tony Goldwyn as District Attorney Nicholas Baxter. After the departure of Manheim, Maura Tierny was...

‘Law & Order: Svu’ And ‘Law & Order’ Renewed For 2025-26 After Combined 50 Seasons On NBC
Image
Wolf Entertainment’s slate of NBC series will remain intact. Days after the network renewed the company’s three Chicago dramas, it has done the same for the two Law & Order ones, Law & Order: Svu and the mothership series.

Svu, headlined by Mariska Hargitay, will return for a record 27th season. Law & Order, which took a 12-year cancellation break, will be back for its 25th season. Both are having their best seasons on Peacock in total viewers in Live+35, having reached combined more than 44 million total viewers across linear and digital platforms this season.

The two Law & Order renewals were never in doubt: as Deadline reported exclusively, in anticipation of Svu‘s pickup, the series last month tapped Michele Fazekas as new showrunner, the first woman to run the veteran procedural.

Yet, like the One Chicago ones, the renewals were not straightforward and involved some cost-trimming, I hear,...

Wolf Entertainment also has “Law & Order: Organized Crime” starring Christopher Meloni, which recently launched its fifth season on Peacock.

The cast of “Law & Order” includes Hugh Dancy, Tony Goldwyn, Odelya Halevi, Mehcad Brooks, Reid Scott, and Maura Tierney. Wolf executive produces along with Rick Eid, Pamela Wechsler, Alex Hall and Peter Jankowski.

Both Kate Silva and Joe Velasco are leaving at the end of Law & Order: Svu Season 26.

Most likely, these are the two characters that are supposed to get a promotion. They’ll be gone, leaving Benson short-staffed at the beginning of Season 27.

The 30 Best Romantic TV Shows to Watch Now, from ‘Moonlighting’ to ‘Normal People’
Image
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in September 2024. It has since been updated with new entries.]

If there’s anything TV is built for, it’s creating a satisfying romance. The prospect of watching the same characters for several episodes, several years potentially, and see them evolve means that fans can watch as a pairing meet, bicker, fall in love, get together (and maybe do those last two steps over and over again for some on-and-off-again tension), and reach relationship milestones that film can’t really cover with the same breadth. One of TV’s very first hits, “I Love Lucy,” didn’t have the word “love” in it for nothing — at its core, it was a story of a loving (if hectic) marriage.

As the medium has evolved, TV has been littered with absolutely iconic couples. Sitcoms like “Cheers,” “The Office,” or “New Girl” mined gold from the will-they-won’t-they between pairings like Sam and Diane, Pam and Jim, Jess and Nick. Soap operas such...

'Law & Order: Svu' Loses Two Series Regulars After Season 26
Image
Change is coming to the squad room. Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano will not return as series regulars on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit if and when the long-running NBC procedural is renewed for its 27th season, as per Deadline. Martinez joined the cast in Season 26 as Detective Kate Silva, while Pisano first appeared in Season 23 as Detective Joe Velasco, a former undercover operative with a complicated past. While NBC has yet to comment on the nature of their exits, sources suggest the decision may be tied to the broader wave of cost-cutting measures happening across the network’s slate of scripted dramas.

It’s not just Svu feeling the squeeze. NBCUniversal recently renewed its One Chicago franchise — Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med— but not without budget trims that have reportedly impacted cast size, episode count, and overall production costs. These changes are part of an...

Law & Order: Svu Shockingly Loses 2 Series Regulars
Image
The cast of Law & Order: Svu has suddenly gotten a little smaller, as it has just been revealed that two series regulars will not be returning if the show gets its renewal for Season 26.

Per Deadline, it's been reported that Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano are finished as series regulars on Law & Order: Svu. Pisano joined the show previously in Season 23 as undercover detective Joe Velasco, while Martinez joined more recently in the current season as Detective Kate Silva. It's not yet known why the two stars are simultaneously exiting Law & Order: Svu, making it unclear if this was due to budget cuts, creative reasons, or a mixture of both. It's not uncommon for actors to be written out of long-running shows, or to have their roles reduced, as part of an effort to reduce the costs of increasingly-expensive shows.

Octavio Pisano and Juliana Martinez to Exit ‘Law & Order: Svu’ After Season 26
Image
While “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” awaits a Season 27 pickup, it’s been revealed that Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano will not be returning if the show does get picked up.

Martinez joined the cast earlier this season as Detective Kate Silva, while Pisano joined in Season 23 as Detective Joe Velasco.

Last month, Michele Fazekas was named the new showrunner becoming the first female showrunner in the procedural’s history.

“Law & Order: Svu” was created by Dick Wolf and led by Mariska Hargitay, who portays Capt. Olivia Benson of the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit. It is the longest-running show in the “Law & Order” family, and stars Ice T, Peter Scanavino and Kevin Kane.

The series, which debuted in Tktk, was a spinoff of “Law & Order.” It also led to the spinoff “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” which streams on Peacock; “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med” and “Chicago P.D.,...

‘Law & Order: Svu’: Juliana Martinez & Octavio Pisano Leaving After Season 26
Image
Exclusive: Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano will not be returning to NBC’s Law & Order: Svu as series regulars if/when the procedural is picked up for a 27th season. Martinez joined the cast this season as Detective Kate Silva, while Pisano was added in Season 23 as undercover detective Joe Velasco.

It is unclear whether the decision was made for creative or financial reasons — or both. There has been a pattern of budget reductions currently underway across multiple NBC shows, impacting cast, episodes, and other areas ahead of renewal decisions leading up to the network’s upfront presentation on Monday.

It is as yet unknown if Martinez and Pisano’s characters will wrap up their storylines by the conclusion of Season 26. The season finale, “Post-Rage,” directed by Norberto Barba, will air on May 15.

The popular series, led by Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson, is fully expected to be renewed for a 27th season.

Stephen A. Smith Is Getting Murdered on ‘Law & Order’ and He Couldn’t Be Happier

Stephen A. Smith is fulfilling a lifelong dream: The legendary sportscaster is going to be on “Law & Order.”

A diehard fan of the series, Smith is set to appear in the episode airing on May 8. The twist? He’s not playing himself, but rather the victim in the episode’s murder investigation. The official logline for the episode states:

“A tough-love sports agent (Smith) is found stabbed to death, leaving the squad with a trail of suspects who wanted him gone. Despite a wealth of evidence, Price (Hugh Dancy) and Maroun (Odelya Halevi) worry that a lack of motive will tank their case.”

Kelli Giddish’s Amanda Rollins was written off midway through Season 24 of Law & Order: Svu. Giddish’s departure came after 12 years on the show. Fans were heartbroken when Rollins left the Svu family. After working in the unit for years and seeing terrible things happen to women, it seemed right for Rollins to choose a different career path.

Giddish’s character initially left the NYPD to teach criminology at Fordham University, but she returned to the force as a sergeant in the Intelligence Unit. She has made appearances in both Svu and Law & Order: Organized Crime. However, her cameos up until the most recent one have been disappointing for her fans.

Which Bubble Show Would You Save From Cancellation?
Image
We’re all anxious this time of year as we await news about our favorite bubble shows.

ABC has renewed most of its primetime slate, while NBC has only renewed two comedies. CBS crushed viewers on Friday when it canceled The Equalizer, which has us concerned about the state of television.

Fox and The CW are somewhere in between, making decisions on a few shows, while others are in limbo.

(Rafy/NBC)

Let’s analyze what we’re working with, and please vote and comment on which bubble shows you’d like to see again.

Brilliant Minds (NBC)

NBC shows have the most to lose since the network is losing valuable scripted television time to NBA basketball on Tuesday nights, and adding Sunday nights to that schedule during mid-season.

The network didn’t consider any new drama pilots for the fall since its slate is already crowded.
