I saw this years and years ago when I used to get this local PBS station that rented time in the morning to foreign-programming companies. I saw a lot of Japanese series, and this was the best.
It reminded me strongly of the brilliant, short-lived TV series Paper Chase, which was based on a movie of the same name. As with that series, this is a bunch of fresh faced students faced with a harsh, brilliant teacher (or something, it's been like 20 years since I saw this).
Anyway, I remember this being by turns very funny and very touching. I would really love to see it again. The Japanese make some really good live TV.
