This movie should be classified into Fantasy/Action/Adventure. It is based on one chapter in Journey to the West, one of the three famous ancient Chinese novels written in Ming Dynasty. The naming of this movie, however, is rather poor because it is very confusing, instead of naming the movie after the title of the chapter it based on, the movie is named after the setting, where the story took place -- for the second half. However, in the first half, the original title of the novel is retained, so the combination would tend to mislead the audience because following the title of the movie, there is no such chapter if you follow the second half. It was not until you watched the movie would you understand which chapter this movie is based on.
