The mummified body of Imhotep is shipped to a museum in London, where he once again wakes and begins his campaign of rage and terror.
When the O'Connells run out of the museum after Rick rescues Evie, there are four mummy guards chasing them. However, in the ensuing bus battle scene, only three are killed. According to the original script, the fourth was supposed to attack Alex after the bus had come to a stop. However, director Stephen Sommers decided to cut the scene, figuring that the audience had had enough of the mummy battle and wanted to get on with the story.
5,000 years ago, a fierce warrior known as the Scorpion King led a great army on a campaign to conquer the known world.
It is mentioned in one scene that the three Americans (Burns, Henderson and Daniels, from ''The Mummy'') died of the curse of the chest nine years ago. ''The Mummy'' is located in Hamunaptra, 1923. Three years later in Cairo (1926), when, at that time, Evelyn was a librarian and single. In ''The Mummy Returns'', it is located in Egypt, 1933. Actually, the three Americans died seven years ago.
At the end credits of the film, the main cast and crews' names are first presented in hieroglyphics, then change into Roman (English) fonts that have a hieroglyphic-like look to them. (The rest of the credits are also in this font). After the main cast and crew is named, the rest of the credits, instead of scrolling down in traditional straight lines, are staggered in snake-like patterns, while hieroglyphics are placed in various areas of the credits and on the screen.
The sequence where Ardeth Bay and Rick are fighting to get Evy back(when Imhotep arises) was originally longer. The MPAA deemed the gun battle too long and gave the film an "R" rating, not because of blood or deaths, but because of excessive gunfire (!). According to director Stephen Sommers and editor Bob Ducsay, they say that the scene was significantly longer, but shortened to ensure a "PG-13" rating.
