  • I remember this show being really funny and well put together. Revealed Anne Hathaway's promise early in her career. Sadly canceled before it could grow an audience.
  • The aptly titled "Get Real" is just that. A very true reality of the average family today. Okay, maybe not 100% average, but close enough.

When I first started watching mid-season, I was extremely drawn to the relationship between siblings in this show. They get along amazingly, but in a strangely believable way, and every time I watch this show I find myself longing for the same relationship with my own sister. The Green kids mix just the right amount of friendship with fighting, and I love the writers for displaying their rapport with one another so well.

For those of you who have never seen "Get Real", I find it to be very similar to "My So-Called Life", but with many more points of view since this is very much an ensemble cast -- there is truly not any one or two true "main" characters, there's just the whole group of them. And unlike so many other television shows today, "Get Real" has not succumbed to including the token gay best friend or the teen pregnancy that we are all so used to. When they introduce issues into their shows, they do it without calling attention to them. It is already apparent that Kenny's newfound deaf girlfriend will simply be Kenny's girlfriend by the next episode. The writers don't dwell on these things like so many other shows feel the need to do.

All I can say is, this show deserves a long run. Anyone can find themselves in these characters, and I hope that the writing stays at this level for a very long time.

    Hello
I loved this show and i still talk about Eric he was the best in the show i was obsessed with him in the show and it was one of my favorite TV shows at the time i wish it would have stayed on the air. well i loved the show a lot and i never wanted it gone off the air and i was all mad when it was taken off the air.

the show was a good one, i think it should come back on, i watched it every night on TV and back in 1999, was a really good show, Eric was a awesome and fabulous actor very talented.

also why do we have to write so much on this thing .. all i wanted to say is that I miss this show and Eric is hot and i loved the show also.
  • It had everything for me to love. It was a late 90s drama, with up and coming actors, and two supporting roles from Friends. And if it wasn't for the annoying theme song (why the gospel choir?...), a great song selection, on each episodes. But the characters were so painfully stereotypical, I still can't believe how the network green lit a series order, after that mediocre and self indulgent pilot episode. Not only did they fail at not being this and that. But it was so cheap, if felt like they just settled for the unaired version, without improving the bad camerawork. Like I said, the characters were obnoxious and cliché. The « aging » father in a midlife crisis, obviously. The neurotic mother, and « modern » grandmother. And their kids, including the irritating and self absorbed youngster. Played by Jesse Eisenberg... The dumb jock, portrayed by an actor I never liked, Eric Christian Olsen. And a Julia Salinger clone, played by a young Anne Hathaway, channeling her inner Joey Potter. Which is ironic, because her character, Meghan, was making fun of Dawson's Creek, during her introduction in the pilot episode. Just like any other shows of that time, it has a bundle of future stars in tiny roles, including January Jones, Peter Hermann, Aaron Paul, Ellen Pompeo and Taryn Manning... All in all, I'm giving « Get Real » the benefit of the doubt, for some of the cast members, episodes and music. But I've always hated this expression (« get real! » ugh...) and the show itself was trying too hard to be witty. When it was just the same, as any other like-minded « self aware » family drama. And was canceled when things were finally going somewhere.
  • This is one of the only shows I ever watched religiously and would go to great lengths not to miss. I loved it because it was real and was not overdone with sappy dramatic and romantic drama that doesn't really happen. I could connect with real feelings and real emotions. It should still be on, but typical of network executives, they didn't think about it and cancelled it.
  • this was the type of short-lived show that you love while its on, are heartbroken when it gets canceled, and forget about it quickly, but every so often it pops into your head somehow and you wish you could remember its name. i was like 13 when this show aired and i was in love with it. if they put this out on DVD i would pick it up in a second, and hopefully it wouldn't disappoint, cause i had pretty low standards at 13, but i would like to see it again. i am surprised to see that so many people remember this show and are demanding to have it released. i think that with 22 episodes this series is worthy of a DVD box, and it looks as if it would be worth the while of fox, but unfortunately i honestly don't see it happening. hopefully someone thought to tape them all and will have them up on ebay.
  • I seen this tv show and I found it uplifting and real.

They said that Dawsons Creek is like a teens life and I disagree, because i am a teen and I have teenage friends and it doesnt relate to my life at all. But I think that this show is great and its real.

I also like how the characters talk to you.

This show is smart, funny, interesting and most importantly REAL!!!!
  • I started watching this show from the first episode, and was hooked... it was funny, heart-warming, realistic, and creatively written. The cast was incredibly talented (especially the actors who played the three teenagers), and they really interacted like a true family. The quality shows are becoming more and more rare lately, so it's always a shame when the good ones don't make it!
  • Mitch and Mary Green are just like any thirty-something California couple, except that they have three high school-aged children. Meghan, a senior, is an A-student with a rebellious nature. Cameron, the middle son, gets suspended from school and has girls sleep over. And Kenny, the youngest son, is totally inexperienced when it comes to the exciting new world of females. They may be dysfunctional, but the Greens are totally lovable. The use of creative camera angles and unusual plot devices helps make this show continually entertaining. "Get Real" is a fun, clever show that will appeal to males and females of all ages.

Here in Holland Get Real just got aired. I like the show, although I know there won't be new episodes. I don't think the show is very funny, and it's too "perfect". But the acting is nice and so are the lines. I love Kenny's bra-obsession, I suppose that's real. It sucks that the show has been cancelled, but I suppose it's understandable. I like it, but I understand that others don't. I didn't like Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries, but in this show she's very cute!

Fox has added another teenage drama to its Wednesday night line-up. It is sort of a "Herman's Head" meets "Dawson's Creek". The actors are all new and fresh and there maybe some real talent here. The story lines have been so-so but if they can perk up, those Fox execs may not axe it in the first four weeks. I suggest that those POF and Dawson's Creek fans may want to check it out.
  • I saw all of the episodes of this show, and it was great! The situations were real. What situations happened in the show were actually happening to real people during those 2 years it aired. I think it was a great show, and it also emphasized how being close to your family is important. For those people who have not seen this show yet, and have the opportunity to, I would highly recommend watching it! The first 4 episodes go a little slow, but that's because each episode tells the important information about each characters traits and lifestyle. Some parts of the show are serious, while other parts just make you want to laugh. The surprise is, if you get to see all 20 episodes, how the characters act in the first 4 episodes isn't how they still are by the end of the show.
  • WEll what can i say, i live in Brazil and the show is only now avaiable. Then i found out that it´s been cancelled. :o( which made me sad cos i really like this show. i Can´t understand why a show fresher than Dawson´s Creek could have been cancelled b4 itself. I really can´t...Get Real is a simple and extremely well written tv show...u can identify yourself with one of the characther just like that. this is One of the good things about Get Real...it has deep emotions, deep stories, drama, comedy, romance, friendship, love and most of all SENSE OF FAMILY. i mean how to be a real family. That´s what i a most indetify myself with this show. Seems like my own family except that i only have one brother ...The show gives u such sense of family that really attachs u to the story that is being told. It´s a real shame that the show has been cancelled. I leave here my protest.

I watch the show from the beginning and I really appreciate it. I hope they will have a second season. The show is very good. The actors are very good and seem to be in the REAL situation. As if they was be in the problem or situation one time before!

I recommend this program to everyone!

This show is so great! It always touches me some how every time I watch it. Jon Tenney, and Eric Christian Olsen are my fav! I hope they all keep up the GREAT work, I'll be watching this show for years to come!

EVERYONE should at least watch this show one time! You'll get hooked!
  • I have no idea why the people canceled this show! I mean this was the best show I have ever seen, it's too bad people in our society today can't see a good show when it's right in their faces. Hopefully some TV station will pick it up and play the only season's reruns then maybe people would realize!
  • The real problem with the show is that the writers and casting agents seem to be working at odds with each other. The actors and actresses are universally attractive, even the youngest son (although the dialogue and plot would have you believe otherwise), and the kids get into trouble with a listless kind of malice. Problems are tidy, resolved swiftly, and include healthy dialogue and reconciliation. It's all far too tidy.

If the producer was aiming for a show with the texture and quality of thirtysomething, Get Real isn't going to make it. The show is trying too hard to snag all the demographics available - the rebellious female teen who isn't ready to let go, the surfer duuuude with a sensitive side, the angsty adolescent boy with mildly-weird issues around dating, the buff dad with the wandering eye, the still-pretty mom with the midlife crisis, and the dapper grandmother dispensing Zen-like advice to one and all. There's already too much character development going on to then add situational trauma like a "rave" where the kids get up to no good and return home late.

A show like My So-Called Life, by contrast, left the weekly crises in the background and focused on the characters' reactions to each other. Get Real presents life as if it was a series of shiny moral questions to solve and move beyond. There's not enough reality to brace up the name...itself another attempt to catch the eye of a jaded Gen-Y viewer.
  • I loved this show since the 1st moment i saw it advetised. The acting and writing is great. It's funny and dramatic at the same time! Too bad FOX couldn't see that and they cancelled it! Oh well, these awesome actors will find work!
  • This show's title is "Get Real". Well, if this show is a representation of family life in America, it is time to move out of the country... as my father says. I personally think that this show is funny and real but I wouldn't let children watch it.
  • Get Real is self explanatory. It's all in the name. It's REAL! Unlike the "popular" shows like Dawson's Creek (and I was using sarcastic quote marks), I, being a teenage girl, have never spoken the way Jen and Joey talk. Excuse me but aren't they in high school? My parents don't even talk like that! As quoted from Get Real: "Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead watching [Dawson's Creek] because there is nothing more obnoxious than self-aware teens who know more about life's great mysterious than their parents." Get real, is not only true to life, but it combines comedy with drama so perfectly I thought it was made by the same people who made Buffy (one of the best shows on TV right now!). Get Real, is witty, savvy, and above all it's not a melodrama like Dawson's Creek. Drama is good but melodrama's suck beyond the telling. Like I said Get Real is a great new show, with talent on the rise (especially Anne Hathaway)!
  • This show has some of the most deplorable characters ever made. They took Ferris Bueler, Kevin Arnold and Angela Green and make them pathetic. Each week the family goes through some sort of "crisis" and forces other people to drop what they are doing and deal with how THEY are feeling. It has honestly had some of the worst moments in television I've ever seen. I've watched it from the beginning, as I review it for mightybigtv.com, but I'm only watching it because I get paid. It isn't a show for kids (as sex is thrown about as the most casual thing for teenage kids to do in their house and for the elderly to joke about), and it isn't a show for people with a concept of reality. I cannot believe it hasn't been canceled, but since FOX is creating a fake internet hype about it, I can only assume it will finish the season and possibly make it half-way through the next.
  • Unlike Dawson's Creek the kids talk like teenagers, act like teenagers, and are going through some of the same problems I have gone or are going through now. And sometimes I even learn something from this show. The only thing I think that doesn't seem real is how 3 teenagers only a few years apart can get along so well.
  • Okay-I decided to watch this show cause I thought "cool-they have voice overs like in my so-called life!". Then they go and make fun of MSCL in the first 5 minutes! What's up with that? And they copied Buffy The Vampire Slayer with the whole "carpe diem-fish of the day" thing. You Buffy fans know what I'm talking about! Oh-and one question-could someone please e-mail me about what that thing was when the girl was like "I should have used birth control then I wouldn't be in this situation". Did you guys hear that? Maybe she said that her mom shouldn't-cause when she said that I was like "ah! she's pregnant!". Anyways-I'm confused. Someone please e-mail me about that! i3uffster@aol.com Oh-and one last thing-too much voice overing!!!! After half an hour I was like "I can't take this torture!!!! ahhhhh!!!!!" but I wanted to give the show a chance. I may tune in at the season finale just to see what's happening. But-I'm much more eXcited about that new nbc show "Freaks and Geeks". That show actually looks real!
  • i just read the comment from mathewmasao and i totally agree. i just remembered to finally look up the name of that show that was on for one season and that i was really hooked on, and then quickly took off the air. i just saw "princess diaries 2" on cable TV and was able to find out ann hathaways name. i remembered seeing her on it. i don't really remember now what the show was about, but i always wonder why they took it off. i just really remember me being the only one hooked on this show in my house. guess it didn't appeal to that many people. i'm glad there's such a thing as imb to look these things up. can't tell you how many bets i've won with my husband about which actors were in what movies. thanks imb!

This has to be the most phony, unrealistic, stupid show on TV. The characters are totally unlikeable. The plot is unoriginal. This show is the most unappealing drama on TV today. I'm surprised that great shows like "The Simpson," "Malcolm in the Middle," and "The X-Files" are on the same network as this piece of garbage.
