This movie has the makings of a cult hit. It's quirky, silly, and becomes more funny each time you watch it. Set in Portland, Maine, it's a treat for anyone from the area. Bob Marley is wonderfully over-the-top (as always). It's the tale of a young man who gets exactly what he's always dreamed of...only to discover it's not all he thought it would be. Though not widely distributed, you're likely to find a copy in the Portland, Maine area. So grab a meatball sandwich from Amato's, grab this video, call a group of your friends, and enjoy. It's amusing the first time, pretty funny the second, and you'll be laughing until your sides hurt by the third time around!

echozdog6 August 2003This short by the PGL winners has it's funny moments, but the main joke it watching someone have to do something that makes him uncomfortable. This has been done a million times and I don't care for watching people in uncomfortable situations. Oh well. The other short "They came to attack us" is much better. 5/10

joefriday28 January 2003After reading that Pennyweight's filmmakers had just won this year's Director's Competition at Project Greenlight and discovering that they were Maine natives, I was able to find this film for viewing on scifi.com. What a treat it was to watch as I found myself laughing out loud throughout the film. I'm glad to see local filmmakers recognized, congratulations.

zminer117 May 2000This movie is a good start for Efram Potelle and Kyle Rankin. Rankin, who also stars in the film, has produced a quirky story of a young film maker who will go to great lengths to obtain money for his art. The humor in this film is very well done, unlike in many of the "comedies" these days which go overboard with physical humor or offensive themes. Rankin's character, Blaine Kinney, is very believable as a poor film maker trying any way he can to break into the world of Hollywood.
If "Pennyweight" is any indication of future works by this duo, I think they have a bright future in the independent film world, and possibly beyond.
