In 1863, Amsterdam Vallon returns to the Five Points area of New York City seeking revenge against Bill the Butcher, his father's killer.
When Boss Tweed considers sex with a prostitute, Bill The Butcher warns him that she's been "frenchified," a 19th-century term for venereal disease.
Monk's already won by three thousand more votes than there are voters.
Boss Tweed: Only three? Make it twenty, thirty. We don't need a victory. We need a Roman triumph.
When Jenny says to Amsterdam and Johnny "I'll leave you in the grace and favor of the Lord," Amsterdam is on the left and Johnny is on the right. When the camera pans back to them, Johnny is on the left and Amsterdam is on the right. The shot is a pan, not a jump cut. When Jenny says "grace and favor etc." Johnny has moved from Amsterdam's left side to his right side.
