It's always the wife. Or at least, that's what Lieutenant Provenza would have us believe.
Except this time it wasn't.
Major Crimes Season 5 Episode 9 offered a case that was both quirky and sad, a rough start to Julio's attempt to be a foster parent, and Sharon needing to rein in Rusty's impulsivity.
It was as sad as it was quirky and made for an enjoyable hour of television.
The investigation of the hour was worthy of Law and Order: Svu, complete with a college student who was earning money on the side as a prostitute.
The girl and her boyfriend seemed to have a philosophical disagreement with the idea that prostitution is wrong.
What a stupid question. No, he wasn't jealous. Why would he be? And I wasn't in a relationship with Bobby. It was transactional. Safe sex.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" is not a good movie. The script is clunky, the tone is inconsistent. Jamie Dornan is a snooze-fest. Its source material was poor literature, even as harlequin and romance writing traditions go, and the film's loyalties to the book's structure and characters is a real detriment. The film -- now a massive box office success after its opening weekend -- does have its redeeming qualities. For one, Dakota Johnson is a trooper, providing some much-needed fun to the frequently strained story. Also, even and especially as large-scale release geared toward women, "Fifty Shades" treats sex differently than many commercial dramas and rom-coms (and not just because of the Bdsm). For all its controversies, the film purposely eschews some of the book's pitfalls to hint at a much more complicated tale about the bedroom and consenting adults. Below I outline some things the "Fifty Shades of Grey...

Thanks to comic book distributor, Diamond's Previews World, we have our first look at Saga #11 from Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples. It's an intergalactic family reunion, as Hazel's parents and grandparents join forces to escape a dying world. Not to mention, there's a bit of a misunderstanding between "Sexy Alana" and Marko. Safe sex isn't something to take lightly when you're on the lam, but it appears that in the heat of passion, caution always gets thrown to the wind. So what might be the future consequences? Chinese artist/activist/dissident Ai Weiwei—a man deeply entrenched with the social media scene so his voice can be heard around the world—acts by responding to his opponents. A self-proclaimed chess player awaiting the government, police, critics, etc. to spin China’s oppressive nature as ‘being better than it was’, he chases his detractors around the board fully aware checkmate is impossible. But despite knowing full-scale victory is futile, Weiwei refuses to yield or take his freedom for granted. Willing to spend hours inside bureaucratic labyrinths to instill change, time is never deemed wasted since his inevitable defeat brings with it the power to critique through rational and passionate discourse. One must work the broken system to expose its tyranny, bravely defying injustice through one’s fear because the alternative’s silent acceptance is infinitely worse.

One thing can be said about Girls that is pretty much undebatable and that's that it's completely unafraid to "go there." It's almost like a car wreck. A wonderfully written, nicely shot, and superbly acted car wreck. No matter how bad it gets on screen, you're only the more intrigued and somehow, it's liberating. Because Lena Dunham doesn't shy away from writing about what's real (plenty of shows claim to do this, but until now, I've realized they've floundered), you can watch Girls and respond with, "This has happened to me," or "My friend told me a story that was just like this." We can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing we aren't the only freaks out there.
"Hard Being Easy" has two A storylines and one B- storyline. So let's start with the one that came first. The aftermath of Charlie reading Hannah's diary during a gig was extremely appreciated on my end.

Lucy Mangan on the people and stories in the media spotlight over the past seven days

NHS
Another good week for Dave and the boys. Another sacred national institution quietly set fair to be reduced to rubble in the next few years. If only they could just stick to things that don't matter, like dicking about with the monarchy. At least when you abolish the right to primogeniture, we can all entertain ourselves with the hope that fate will one day allow Anne to be king.
Despite sterling work from Lords Owen, Hennessy and Rea, despite 150,000 protesting signatures gathered by the 38 Degrees campaign, the NHS reforms bill was passed. "Reforms" meaning here "the changes we're making that we promised in our worthless manifestos we wouldn't, not least because they involve yet more expensive top-down reorganisation when, uh, due to our other promises not exactly working out either, an...

It was an .issues. episode earmarked for infamy, but in the end, Glee.s .Blame It On the Alcohol,. a musical morality tale about the horny highs and vomit-y lows of binge alcohol consumption, wound up being pretty entertaining. Drunk dialing, mechanical bull-riding, Ke$h-upchucking: All the basics were covered with wasted aplomb. Here, then, are five plot pitches for Glee VSEs (Very Special Episodes), and the songs that will drive their points home.

In our latest world cinema column, Nick embarks on a whistle stop tour of countries and their most notable films, starting with Europe…
I've sais before: the lure of the unknown is what attracts people to seek out world cinema. Discovering new places and new people is intoxicating, and the thrill of it can often be replicated in cinema, and what keeps us seeking it out.
Not all of us can make the journey in reality, but we can still experience the wonders nonetheless. With that in mind, I decided I'd shake up the column a bit and introduce a new section.
Over the next couple of weeks, I thought I'd take you all on a once in a lifetime round-the-world trip, visiting every continent and making hundreds of emotional connections with places and people, all via the medium of film. And if you're thinking this is corny bullshit, well then you may be right,...

With the Dqm in isolation after being infected by the H1N1 Contagion (he thinks. Drama Queen) it falls to me to post about another contagion: zombies. Most specifically, Bruce Labruce's new zombie porn film, L.A. Zombie.
Now, I have no idea why the porn studios are all gaga over supernatural porno. I'm sure there's some grand deconstructive zeitgeist to it but, frankly, I don't have the time to research it. And textual deconstruction is just so much mental masturbation anyway. And I like the real thing.
La Zombie stars pornstar Francois Sagat in a tale of a zombie lost on the mean streets of Los Angeles. Labruce is calling the this the latest in his zombie porn revolution. Apparently, zombie porn is the third wave of adult entertainment. I've never though of "waves" and "porn" together. Sure, "wet" and "porn" go together. But not waves. Well, maybe...

So in last Sunday’s much-discussed episode of Brothers & Sisters, Kevin and Scotty considered having a threeway with Kevin’s oh-so-forward ex, Chad.
I didn’t mind that Kevin and Scotty ultimately decided not to go through with it – that seems to fit their characters, after all.
But I was shocked that the writers managed to do a whole storyline about a gay couple considering whether or not to have a threeway … without ever saying a single interesting thing about a gay couple considering whether or not to have a threeway!
No matter. It’s still enough of an excuse to declare this the “Threeway Edition” of B.G.W.E!
Incest, “Fun Buddies,” And Teabagging, Oh My!
Along with Brothers & Sisters’ potential threeway, the big news last week was when easily-manipulated Fox viewers decided to protest the fact that President Obama has already cut taxes for most taxpayers (while...

Scandals from 2008 are coming out of the woodwork today. First, Blago’s indictment. Now, Levi Johnston is back in the mix, talking with Tyra Banks about safe sex! The interview is Monday, but her Web site has a preview today. The clip shows what is presumably the juiciest part of the interview: Levi talking about his (out-of-wedlock) sex life with failed vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol. Levi tells Tyra—on her special “Tyra Couch”—that, yes, they were sexually active before the baby was conceived. And, yes, they practiced safe sex, “most of the time.” Levi goes onto tell Tyra that the baby was conceived due to a “wardrobe malfunction.” (Readers Note: Malfunction = Forgot To Wear A Condom.) The interview runs Monday. But you’ve already found out the dirt that you want. Read More: • The Authoritative Trig Palin Conspiracy Time Line...

I beg of you, gentle ComicMix readers... take a journey with me back in time. Step one? Dust off a pair of “wide leg” jeans. Don your favorite pair of Airwalk low-tops. Grow your hair out a little, and put a Pearl Jam Compact Disk into your brand new Diskman. Step Two? Power up your personal computer. You know the one, with that brand new Intel Pentium chip the kids all talk about. Fire up that 14.4 Baud Modem, and hop on that newfangled 'Information Super-Highway'. Welcome to 1993 folks! Now that you're here, you should check out a little known webcomic called “The Parking Lot Is Full”.
The brief history on said comic comes from it's own tombstone, procured from their site instead of that wiki-pedia thing you “next-gen users” all like so much...

While the crowd has already dispersed following the recently concluded Rock of Love 2, we find a few still hanging on to reality TV. We already reported that VH1 has recalled some of the most memorable personalities in their dating competitions for their newest reality show, I Love Money. This pits the contestants to vie for a jackpot prize of $250,000. Aside from some I Love New York alums, we have four Rock of Love women who joined in the fun. In fact, one of them happens to be second season third placer, Destiney Moore.
A model, actress and host, Destiney Moore first entered the world of Rock of Love in its first season. However, she wasn’t able to land a spot in the final 25 who appeared on season 1 of Rock of Love. She finally did make it to reality TV after she was spotted and Hollywood and was asked to join the show.
