Christian Clavier plays Thenardier, who in the book (fraudulently) identifies himself as "The Sergeant of Napoleon." Clavier has also played Napoleon himself. An earlier production, Les Miserables (1978) had Ian Holm as Thenardier. Holm has also played Napoleon.
