It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

The CW on Tuesday went public with its Summer 2023 schedule, and it's as acquisition-heavy as expected.
Family Law Season 2 is kicking things off on Friday, July 7, leading into the series premiere of Moonshine.
Family Law had a decent audience on the network last year, so bringing it back was a no-brainer.
Monday will be reserved for the acquired comedy series, with Son of a Critch, Children Ruin Everything, Run the Burbs, and Bump airing on the night.
In anticipation of FBoy Island's premiere on the network with originals in the fall, The CW will air episodes of Fboy Island Season 2.
As previously reported, The CW has also ordered FGirl Island.
All things considered, the schedule is a bit uneventful, and that's the tricky part of having few original series.

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of this year, which is why we have it listed on our Summer Horror Movie Preview… but we’re going to have to remove it from that list, because Sony has (according to Yahoo) decided to delay the release an entire year. They Listen is now set to reach theatres on August 30, 2024.
They Listen is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming was already underway in Los Angeles back in December, so this movie is going to be complete and sitting on a shelf a while before its new release date rolls around next year.
All details about They Listen are being kept under wraps.

In 2000, when Upn landed The Hughleys from ABC as well as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roswell from The WB Network, industry insiders dubbed it the “Used Parts Network.” Flash forward two decades and The CW’s roster of homegrown scripted originals has tumbled from 18 in the 2021-22 broadcast season to only two shows, with three remaining on the bubble at press time.
The writing has been on the wall for what has become of The CW — whose current name represents its former owners, CBS Studios and Warner Bros. TV. But what is The CW’s brand under station group Nexstar, which has vowed to make the formerly younger-skewing network profitable by 2025? With CBS Studios and Warners now owning a mere 12.5 percent of the network each and Nexstar’s new focus on low-cost acquisitions and unscripted fare, The CW’s brand now may best be described as “Castoffs Wanted” or even “Curated Wreckage.

Prince Louis is a “double spare” as the youngest of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children. However, a royal author says the four-year-old’s parents make “enormous efforts” so he feels anything but.

Louis’ situation is one almost all royals discover at one point or another in childhood, according to royal author Tom Quinn.
“Like all royal children, he will quickly become aware that he has a life of luxury,” the Gilded Youth author said (via Marie Claire). “But he can’t really escape it and have an ordinary life, but he’s also not the number one.”
Louis, he said, is “not going to be, or it’s very unlikely, that he’d ever become the monarch.” Currently, Louis is fourth in the royal family’s line of succession.

Exclusive: Nacelle, the studio behind Down to Earth with Zac Efron and Grant, Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History, has struck a deal to distribute a feature-length doc filmed during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The company has taken worldwide rights to Comedy of War: Laughter in Ukraine.
The doc comes from filmmakers Christopher Walters and Krista Liney, who runs producer Maiden, and shows the brutal reality of the conflict through the lens of stand-up comedians touring in war-torn Ukraine. Nacelle plans to take the doc to film festivals before launching worldwide sales.
The documentary follows four rising stars of Ukrainian stand-up comedy, each with a unique perspective on the war currently being waged in their homeland. Performing in converted bomb shelters, they laugh in spite of the war, not at it.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine began almost a year ago and has left tens of thousands dead and millions displaced.

Paul Weitz’s “Moving On” boasts a legendary ensemble that includes Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Malcolm McDowell and Richard Roundtree. It’s always possible for such an illustrious cast to simultaneously elicit excitement and dread, though. Just ask anyone who has endured “Queen Bees,” “Poms,” “Book Club,” “Last Vegas” or “Space Cowboys.”
Good news: “Moving On” doesn’t just aim for warm and pleasant. The film is wickedly droll and shockingly riveting – the operative word being “shockingly.” The element of surprise abounds and is more integral to the plot here than in, say, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” The less you know, the better because the film defies expectations in the best way possible. With that said, and somewhat heedless of our own advice, this review regrettably must proceed to tell you more. But we won’t spoil anything beyond what’s in the programming notes of the Toronto International Film Festival,...

Humphrey Bogart may have built himself a reputation as the perfect smoldering lead — the tough guy who could banter with the villain, save the day, then wash his cares away with a nightcap — but he was far from pretentious about it. Rather than always insisting upon playing the lead role, Bogart was excited by small parts. And despite his widespread success, he never saw minor characters as beneath him.
Bogart wasn't shy about his willingness to experiment, either. When actress and journalist Hedda Hopper asked him if he had ever turned down a role because it was too small, the mega-star replied:
"Somebody once asked my pal [character actor] George Tobias that same question ... and George said, 'There are no small parts, there are only small actors.' Well, that goes for me, too.'"
And experiment Bogart did. Though he primarily played serious, heavy characters (and dubbed them his favorites), Bogart...

‘Baywatch actor Zac Efron has opened up about his reported “jaw-gate” in an interview with ‘Men’s Health’ magazine. The rumours surfaced last April, with many pointing out that he looked different in an Earth Day public service announcement.
Acknowledging that his appearance has changed in recent years, Efron explained that it happened after he fell at his home and broke his jaw in November 2013. His face and jaw muscles, as a result, have to work extra hard for him to make expressions, reports ‘People’ magazine.
A person’s masseter muscle, which helps you close your mouth when you chew, along with the muscles on the face should operate “like a symphony”, but his injury meant this was no longer the case, Efron said.
According to ‘People’, he was seeing a physical therapist to help him recover, but he briefly stopped while in Australia, where he shot Season 2 of his...

More of a Catherine Deneuve, Marie-France Pisier and/or Emmanuelle Béart type filmmaker, oddly these two have only worked together on one occasion. Showing absolutely no signs of slowing down, after putting the final touches on Les pieds sur terre (which we anticipate will a major film festival premiere in the fall or might opt for the Berlinale in 2023) André Téchiné will have a long awaited reunion with his The Brontë Sisters actress Isabelle Huppert. Production on La révocation is expected to begin in October-November of 2022 in Perpignan – a coastal town just north of the border with Spain and south of Montpellier.…...
