I, Daniel Blake is a film where the title character attempts to claim sickness benefit from the state while he recovers from a heart attack. It is a simple film, unadorned by concerns such as CGI or contiguity within its brand. It was filmed on location in and around Newcastle. It’s furious, urgent and very much about now.
It is also a devastating movie, coming across like a variant of Brazil shorn of the fantastical. Dave Johns (previously seen as ‘Cheesy’ Alan Supple on Time Gentlemen Please and God on Harry Hill) plays the title character,...

The cast of 'I Can't Sing - The X Factor Musical' would never audition for the TV series. West End stars Cynthia Erivo and Alan Morrissey - who play aspiring singers in Harry Hill's spoof of the ITV show - have argued that while the talent show promises pop stardom, success within the music industry feels more ''special'' if you work for it. Cynthia told Digital Spy: ''I wouldn't want to go that way, I'm quite satisfied with how my career's going - I know it's harder [but] I just prefer it like this, ''I guess when you know that you've...

Al Murray has revealed plans to make a movie based on his Pub Landlord character.
The comedian explained that he has written a script for the project, having previously toured as the character, while also releasing books and fronting a chat show.
He told The Sun: "I'd love to do a Pub Landlord film - in fact there's a script and some stuff already written.
"But with movies, you have to go and find someone who wants to make it. I guess it's 'in development'.
"With most projects I always think that until it's in the bargain bin of a service station for £1, it hasn't actually happened!"
Murray explained that he never intended to make the Pub Landlord character his most famous creation, after using him for links between Harry Hill's show at the 1994 Edinburgh Festival.
He said: "I can't believe it - that was never the plan. In fact there was no plan!

Armstrong and Miller comic lambasts 'inverse snobbery' while Ricky Gervais teaches guitar – and who's the hottest comedian?
This week's comedy news
We begin with the Telegraph's tale of Alexander Armstrong and the apparent victimisation of "posh" comics. "Why should your background be held against you?," asks the descendant of William the Conqueror, alumnus of a Durham public school and director of a production company called Toff Media. "It is so short-sighted … This tribal aversion to anyone with a posh voice is very boring." Armstrong – best known as one half of the sketch double-act Armstrong and Miller – even lodges the improbable complaint that his privileged upbringing has been detrimental to his career in British entertainment. In the piece, he blames inverse snobbery for the BBC initially spurning Armstrong and Miller after their big break on the Edinburgh fringe in the mid-1990s. And, he adds, "I'm not anticipating an offer to...

Comic Relief is back with a bang this year, celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Comic Relief partner Jackpotjoy has teamed up with Queen of Bingo Babs Windsor for a brand new ad that’s going to knock your block off. She may be 75, but Babs has gone all-out to be funny for money this year, learning kung fu and performing all of her own stunts in the ad for Jackpotjoy’s new Red Nose Day bingo game.
The ad sees pint-sized Babs showing a gang of thugs a thing or two, in a sketch that’s a homage to classic kung fu movies, as well as Peggy Mitchell’s rough and tumble Eastend past. The Red Nose Day bingo game has been launched to help raise funds for Comic Relief, who in its 15 year history has already raised an amazing £660 million to help fight poverty.

Even though “The X Factor” is one of the biggest hits on television right now, could it be a Broadway smash? Simon Cowell thinks it could. Cowell signed on as a producer of the new musical, inspired by the reality show, which had an invitation-only workshop two weeks ago and is planned to hit the West End next sprin. With a score by Steve Brown and script by Harry Hill, this wacky new show centers on a young woman who lives in a trailer park but has been blessed with a “Susan Boyle-type belt.” As the musical trails on and the singer gets through each round, the audience will meet interesting characters (like a hunchback) and an alien Simon Cowell. However, “The X Factor” isn’t the only reality show that could make for an interesting show. Here’s six other reality shows that could make for a gripping,...

The irony in Twi-hardism is that the people we admire most aren't remotely like us. If Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Kellan Lutz and Jackson Rathbone didn't star in "The Twilight Saga," would they even know we exist? No. Guys with abs like that are too busy in the gym or with their rock bands to spend think about movies based on romantic Ya novels. Real Twi-hards sport abs like mine.
That is no slight against them. Heck, it's a large part of the reason we adore them. Their glamorous lives as "the popular kids" help us escape the mundane parts of our lives: school, work cubicles, taxes, diets, etc.
The fandom around Anna Kendrick, on the other hand, is different. Only the hardcore truly appreciate her. Despite her obvious talent and natural humor, Kendrick too often flies under the radar. While she may be up on stage at at a "Twilight" convention,...

Screenterrier posted the casting call back in September searching for a young actress to play a 15 year old Barbara Windsor in her Little Cracker, coming up this Christmas on Sky1.
16 year old newcomer Samantha White (represented by Abacus Agency) landed the role of the young Cockney actress.
Barbara herself appears in the episode playing the shop assistant.
She says of Samantha's casting:
"We were looking for someone who was tiny and looked like me, but, of course, there aren't many of us around. A lot of the girls who came in were much taller, or if there were shorter they looked too young. Then this girl, Samantha White, walked in and reminded me of myself with a little plump face and these teeth, and this fine, blonde hair. Her audition impressed me because she's learned the script and she said "I've been watching your films as well," which I thought was really nice.

10 year old Archie Lyndhurst from Chichester, son of Only Fools and Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst, has landed the role of a young Jack Whitehall in this Christmas's season of Sky1's Little Crackers.
Jack's Little Cracker is the story of his relationship with his father when he was growing up from the ages of about 10 and 11.
Or as Jack describes it: "Back then I liked to dress up - a lot. It's the tale of a camp little boy who grew up into a camp adult and defines who I am now. I was a show-off and a bit flamboyant, and that's where it all started, with my parents indulging me and not telling me to stop dressing like an idiot and behaving like a tit."
