This film won five Razzies, including worst picture, worst actor and worst director. Tom Green showed up to the ceremony to pick up his awards. At the time, he was only the second recipient to ever accept a Razzie in person, the first being director Paul Verhoeven to pick up his 7 Razzie awards for Showgirls (1995).
When the cop and therapist come to Freddy's door, the surgery shown on the TV is real-life footage of Tom Green having a lymph node removed due to testicular cancer.
The French title, "Va te faire foutre Freddy!" translates as "Go and Fuck Yourself, Freddy!" in English.
When Tom Green showed up at the Razzies to personally accept his awards, he brought his own red carpet. He played an endless harmonica solo at the end of the show, and had to be literally dragged off stage.
In March 2016, James Meyers of Concord, North Carolina was driving his 10-year-old daughter to school when a police officer pulled him over for a broken brake light. When the officer ran his license, he found a 14-year-old arrest warrant for failing to return a VHS copy of "Freddy Got Fingered". The officer let Meyers go and told him to show up later at the police station. At the station, Meyers was taken to a magistrate's office, patted down, and put in handcuffs. He was ordered to appear in court the next month to answer a charge of "failure to return rental property," a misdemeanor. But the charge would be tough to prove since the video store had closed down and the tape was missing. On a late Wednesday night, Myers was rewatching "Freddy Got Fingered" when all of a sudden his phone rang. On the other end was a voice re-enacting one of the most famous scenes from the movie, when Gord ties sausages to his fingers and chants, "Daddy, would you like some sausage." Meyers instantly knew who it was Tom Green on the other end. Green, who was on a comedy tour in Australia at the time, heard the story after it went viral and told Meyers he would help with any fees related to the case.
