The title is taken from the last line of the 1917 poem 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock' by T.S. Eliot. It reads: "Till human voices wake us and we drown".

When Silvie's father is building the boat near the end of the film, the song he's singing is also used as the main theme from the series "Outlander (2014- )". On IMDb it is credited as "'The Skye Boat Song' (uncredited); Traditional Scottish air with lyrics by Sir Harold Boulton; New lyrics by Robert Louis Stevenson."
