  • Atys is a wonderful treasure. Great credit must be paid to William Christie and Les Arts Florissants for their fantastic performance. I first heard an extract played on RTE radio in 1989 and was caught by the unusual sound, rhythm and pace. At that time there was no internet to find out anything about Lully or Les Arts Florissants. It took many months to obtain the CD. The music opened up a whole new world to me. From then I began to buy every recording of French Baroque that I could find. Because of Atys I visited Versailles and some of the châteaux on the Loire, notably Chambord where Lully's music was performed. I am still as enthralled today as I was 17 years ago and feel I owe a great debt to William Christie and Les Arts Florissants for all the pleasure and the sheer magic of a sound that can transport one back to a different civilisation. Many thanks
