Film lyricist Anand Bakshi is regarded as the most successful Indian film lyricist having written 4000 songs in a career ranging 45 years. A look at his work reveals his mastery over his art. Remember Chingari Koi Bhadke....(Amar Prem), Hum Tum Ek Kamre Mein Bandh Ho...(Bobby), Teri Pehli Nazar Ko Salaam... (Ek Duje Ke Liye), Tujhe Dekha To...(Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) etc.
Anand Bakshi was a master of penning lyrics, within minutes, he could write to the tunes of music directors and in the process many a times he would cram mindless words like Dum Maro Dum...., Achcha To Hum Chalte Hain....Mere Jeevan Sathi Pyar Kiye Ja... etc incidentally the songs would prove hit.
One such song that he set to the tune of Laxmikant-Pyarelal was for the movie Amir Garib (1974) staring Dev Anand and Hema Malani. The song was Baith Ja Baith Gayi, Khadi Ho Ja Khadi...

After seeing umpteen films about cricket from Lagaan to Iqbal to Victory, Speedy Singhs is the first Canadian-Hindi film we see about ice hockey. But this isn’t your average sports based first with a dash of patriotism and individual storylines of triumph. Its a story about Rajveer Singh [Vinay Virmani] who is stuck between the expectations of following the family business and devotion enforced by his father [Anupam Kher of course] and his dream of greatness in ice hockey. But you can’t play ice hockey without a team so while papa doesn’t know, he forms his team, the Speedy Singhs, and tries to fulfil this desire.
Of course we have our dash of love with Camilla Belle playing the love interest Melissa, sister to coach Dan Winters, played by Rob Lowe that agrees to train the Speedy Singhs to victory. And maybe for a little fun, a dash of comedy supplied by Russell Peters who plays Sonu,...

Breakaway (also known as Speedy Singhs) is Akshay Kumar’s latest production project: an Indo-Canadian co-production slated to release at the end of September. The film, starring newcomer Vinay Virmani, Anupam Kher, Russell Peters and Rob Lowe, is centered around a young Indian-Canadian hockey player and the difficulty he encounters trying to balance the two cultures he has grown up with. His father wants him to work for the family business and devote himself to religious past-times, instead of pursuing a career in hockey (a sport most beloved by Canada).
This idea – this melding versus clashing of cultures – informs the soundtrack too.
Rdb – a Canada and UK based bhangra outfit – are at the reins for the Breakaway soundtrack album and have composed an album that is unmistakeably desi at its core, but seamlessly mixes in hip-hop and dance.
The album opens with Ne Aaja Ve, a breezy dance track sung...
