Exclusive: to celebrate the release of the ITV60 DVD box set, here's a previously unreleased clip from classic children's show Rainbow...
Forget Marco Polo and The Power Of The Daleks, the true geek treasure at the end of the search for missing classic TV episodes is here. And it features Bungle.
Specifically, the main Bungle, Stanley Bates, joined by Roy Skelton voicing Geoffrey's fellow wards, Zippy and George.
The clip below originated in a Boxing Day Rainbow special, and using our Bungle-senses, we've provisionally placed as coming from 1975 episode, Christmas Party.
The episode has since lain unreleased until Network dusted it off and included it among 59 episodes from other of ITV's classic fare on a DVD box set celebrating the broadcaster's 60th birthday.
You'll notice that Rod, Jane and Freddy are in fact, Rod, Jane and Matt in this one - 'Matt' being Matthew Corbett, who left...

This weekend sees the debut of a brand new Saturday night entertainment show with a twist - it has puppets!
To mark the launch of BBC One's That Puppet Game Show on Saturday night (August 10), Digital Spy compiles a list of just some of TV's greatest ever puppets.
Andy Pandy
One of the leading children's characters of the early 1950s, Andy Pandy's 26 episodes were shown continuously until 1970, when a new series was made. The sweet marionette and his friends Teddy and Looby Loo lived in a picnic basket, and chilled out to the dulcet tones of Maria Bird. A new stop-motion series returned in 2002.
Animal
One of the best-loved Muppets, Animal is a drummer for the band Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. He's surely up there with Dave Grohl, John Bonham and Ringo Starr as also one of the best-loved drummers of all time. Despite having a limited vocabulary,...

“Three. That's the magic number.” So claimed legendary rappers De La Soul in the Daisy Age of 1989. And it would seem that everyone's favourite Time Lord agrees too. Back in 1972, three incarnations of The Doctor were needed to defeat the awesome might of Time Lord pioneer Omega and his lumbering jellies. Three is normally the number of seconds afforded by gun-totin' maniacs such as The Brigade Leader, before the trigger is pulled. And in Earth's future, it seems that only three Daleks are needed to create fear and terror throughout the land, while hiding in a cramped metal box.
The Power Of Three extended to the latest triple whammy shenanigans in Doctor Who. Now this doesn't relate to a killer phone network, nor does it relate to a clandestine Time Lord code – in fact, it refers to the penultimate hurrah of the ongoing Tardis trio. The Power Of Three revolves...

David Cameron can only dream of such support
With just days to go before London 2012 is banished to memory and the Olympic Park can prepare for its future as the derelict backdrop to a million gritty Channel 4 dramas about gang violence, it is time to face facts. Yes, it was fun being proud to be British. Yes, by the end of the Paralympics even the most hardened of us had managed to stop instinctively flinching at the sight of a union flag. But enough's enough. It is probably time to start agreeing again that Americans are better than us.
No, really, they are. Americans are better than us because they know how to commit. Look at how their celebrities endorse rightwing politicians. Would a British celebrity ever champion a Tory by publicly muttering incoherent abuse at an empty chair for 12 solid minutes? Would a British celebrity turn up on...

After a few years out of the limelight, Sooty grabbed the headlines again this week following his now-infamous assault on fellow magician Paul Daniels with a slice of cold pizza. Daniels was quick to play down the incident, no doubt out of professional courtesy. Of course, those of us who have tracked Sooty's mischievous ways down the years wouldn't have been in the least bit surprised when they heard the news. We mark Sooty's return to public life with ten fast facts. 1. Sooty was discovered on July 19, 1948 when Harry Corbett bought the famous puppet for 7s6d as a present for his son Matthew while on holiday in Blackpool. Known originally as 'Teddy', Harry quickly incorporated the new arrival into his magic show. 2. The bear was first seen on our screens in 1952 with an appearance on the BBC's Talent Night, filmed (more)...

Some people are born into wealth. Others are born into a showbiz lifestyle. But nobody has ever been left with a legacy quite like Matthew Corbett, who was handed the world's most famous bear - Sooty - by his dad Harry in 1976. Matthew went on to work with Sooty (and his pals Soo and Sweep) for 22 years, man and boy. Squirted with water pistols, harassed by a squeaking dog and for generally putting up with living with three glove puppets for the majority of the '80s, Corbett should be recognised as a legend in his own field. Pre-Sooty, Corbett earned his showbiz stripes with cameos on Doctor (more)...

ITV1 is set to axe a number of children's TV programmes including 'The Sooty Show'. The network has revealed plans to chop iconic programmes - also including 'Emu' and 'Captain Mack' - from its main channel, airing them on their digital channel Citv instead. The decision has sparked outrage amongst a number of TV stars, with 'The Sooty Show' host Matthew Corbett calling it ''a sad day for the country''. According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, bosses at ITV have told regulatory body Ofcom they have become ''ineffective and inefficient'' in airing children's programmes alongside their drama shows aimed at an adult audience. A spokesman ..

Wikipedia describes Sweep as "a grey, glove puppet dog" with a "penchant for bones and sausages". Never has someone so great been so undersold. Sweep was so much more than a mere "glove puppet dog" - at least for those who watched any incarnation of The Sooty Show during the last 50-odd years. He represented and stood up for the ignored, downtrodden and forgotten members of society. While Harry and Matthew Corbett wasted their hours with the mute, attention-seeking, faux-magician Sooty and nagging, irritating, fussbag panda bear (more)...
