  • Mircea Eliade's fantasy novel "Domnişoara Christina" was the topic of a scandal. The plot of "Miss Christina" deals with the fate of an eccentric family of the Moscus, who are haunted by the ghost of a murdered young woman known as Christina. The apparition shares characteristics with vampires and with strigoi:she is believed to be drinking the blood of cattle and that of a young family member. The young man Egor becomes the object of Christina's desire and is shown to have intercourse with her.I haven't read the novel, but its 1992 adaptation is a subtle and romantic piece of horror. The acting is splendid and the finale is lovingly sad and melancholic.7 apparitions out of 10.

The first basic virtue is represented by the cast. Great Romanian actors, beautiful performances, wise exploration of the nuances of text. The second is the atmosphere. Dark to poetic. And, not the last, the great work of Mariana Buruiana as Domnisoara Christina. A precious film for the context of its birth. For cinematography and, after decades, for the dosis of nostalgia.
