Mythology has always fascinated me, from the rich fantasy world, metaphors, and hidden philosophy, it never ceases to amaze me because there just always seems to be something more to find. This sci-fi/fantasy show is one of those under the radar gems.

I really like the premise which I think is a cool idea. Instead of time travel it's traveling toward the world of fantasy. It's kinda that wishforfillment feeling that we have where whenever we read books or watch a movie we at times imagine ourselves somehow involved in the story. It's also one of these shows that are educational but is done right because it's not boring.

The production value despite a modest budget they really used it well, I really love the set pieces as well as certain locales they used to film, they really fit with the stories they used. I love the fact that this show didn't just retell Greek Myths (which are my favorite kind) but other myths from around the world, which makes the show all the more interesting because it show how universal the subject of mythology really was. The action is decent the choreography is on par, the suspense is solid there is a sense despite these protagonists being able to travel to the world of myth whenever they want, their lives are in danger; makes sense since each of these stories had elements of danger.

The two main protagonists are solid, they have a genuine motive for which is finding their father while saving the myth world from a Demon that wants to destroy it, by changing it which will also mean he'll rule our realm, I think? I don't know the revolving plot really isn't very deep which is OK by me, by it's nature it's more of a maguffin, we're in it for the adventures.

Anyway, both the actor and actress I thought their performances were solid, their young but capable actors, it's a shame they didn't have more. Alex Bellows (Chistopher Jacot) is kinda a typical teen, he has some charisma, isn't too smooth, he kinda cool but at times it shows he tries a bit hard.

But the one character I really like the most is Cleo Bellows played well by Meredith Henderson whom I remember from another under the radar show "The Advetures of Sherley Homes" and on a side note I think the actress is cute. But her character is smart, in control, however what makes her unique is the fact that she's disabled which is the kind of character I don't see nearly enough taking the lead but just gives the show a sense of diversity. I love the way she plays it, just like any regular person that despite disabled she doesn't let it stop her. I love the fact that her character loves going to the myth world because she's able to walk in that world, which makes her a bit sympathetic because it shows what we take for granted we should actually treasure.

The only bad thing about this show is that it was cut short too soon, which I felt was really too bad. There really was a lot more that could of been done, there could of been more depth built on the revolving plot, we could of had more myths to go to, may'be even have some new supporting characters so both Alex and Cleo wouldn't have to go it alone all the time, sadly we'll never see that. I think it would be cool if a revival was made, with todays technology it can be done. It would also be cool if we have a DVD/Blu Ray set of this show hopefully it will be considered.

Overall Mythquest like any good myth is worth a visit.

  • I stumbled upon this gem on PBS one Saturday morning while channel surfing. In New England it competes against the usual Saturday morning kiddy fare. All I can say is that IMO it rates up there with best network fantasy dramas.

Two teens desperately trying to rescue their archeologist father, who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances, stumble upon a computer program capable of transporting them into the varied myths that have contributed to the world's civilizations. The writing and production qualities are top notch. From what I've been able to find out online so far there are only 13 episodes completed, and the Canadian based show is currently in its second year of production. I truly hope that it has a long run. The show is entertaining, educational and compelling.

It was one of my favourite shows in my childhood, I learned a lot. Actors must be old now after 20 years. But please somebody remake it! I promise it's going to get famous. put it on netflix. I want to see it again and see how they find their father.
