This third Law and Order series involves the criminal justice system from the criminal's point of view.
The following statement appears at the beginning of each episode: "In New York City's war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the detectives of the Major Case Squad. These are their stories." This is the only Law & Order series where the opening statement does not begin with the words "In the criminal justice system..."
Detective Alexandra Eames:
The way she was making googly eyes at you I thought you were getting through to her.
The detectives often discuss elements of their cases openly in front of people who they have just questioned. This would not occur in real life as they would risk having the person who overheard them potentially contact someone who might be a suspect.
Two versions of the 4th season episode "Great Barrier" aired, with different time zones of the United States and Canada seeing different endings, one in which villain Nicole Wallace escapes, and another in which she died. Viewers were then invited to vote on which ending they preferred (both endings were made available on the Internet).
