| They just don't make films like this often, what a hidden gem!
What a lovely film My Dinner With Jimi is. Sadly almost no one has seen this hidden gem. It's a tiny budget, Indie film that had a very limited theatrical release.

What makes it so special is it's a true story. The film is about a brief time in 1966-1968 when the California rock band The Turtles had a number one hit with Happy Together. Their smash hit song, changes the band and sends them on an odyssey that takes them to London where they party with Graham Nash and Donovan. Later that evening, they go to the infamous rock club Speakeasy, where they meet the Moody Blues, Brian Jones, The Beatles and finally Jimi Hendrix.

What people don't realize is that this is an autobiographical film written by the lead singer of The Turtles, Howard Kaylan. This is his story as he experienced it. Kaylan does the voice over narration which give the film a documentary feel. The viewer is put into his shoes as we experience his world and live the life of a rising pop star in the colorful Summer of Love, 1967.

This has been called a low budget look film...that's true and that's what gives the film it's charm. It's not a big-budget CG Hollywood movie...My Dinner With Jimi has something more important, it has an amazing true story with characters that are very human, it has rock history...it has soul.
