This show is just so insane, so over-the-top, so twisted and silly that it's just so funny. Not many people will get it, but those that do will more than likely love it.

My particular favourite episode is "Lost in Time", but the first 10 or so episodes are great.

Where else can you see a show where a shark on a motorcycle jumps over a pool of Fonzies? Unfortunately, the show was never the same once the man who brilliantly played Captain Murphy died, who never failed to deliver at least five laughs per episode.

The characters are so utterly ridiculous and their chemistry is great because of it.

If you want a laugh then check it out. One of the best things about it is that it's only around 10 minutes long.
  • Among with Aqua Teen Hunger, Mission Hill, The Brak Show and Harvey Birdman, this was one of my favorite series from the early years of Adult Swim, before the block started going downhill.

I miss these type of series: Despite their limited budget, these series were clearly made with a lot of appreciation for the source material and never failed to bring laughs.

Nowadays, most of Adult Swim shows are just weird for weirdness sake, and I frankly found them to be quite unpleasant, compensating their poor humor with shock value.

Sealab 2021 managed to be absurd in rather clever (And hilarious) manner.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Sealab 2021 was first a quirky dub to a old kids show, but then became a show of its own.

This show was second to Aqua Teen Hunger Force as the funniest show on Adult Swim thanks to the funny characters. Sparks owns as the crippled assistant who was evil and only had one episode to himself. Seriously, the dude was underused. Quinn and Stormy were hilarious together and made for some funny moments, like the Brainswitch episode or more specific, the Lost In Time story where there were constantly living the same 15 minutes to save the lab. But what really made the show watchable was Captain Murphy. He was paranoid, stupid, and clueless but was king to some classics as "All That Jazz", "Radio Free", "Feng Shui", "In The Closet",and Der Dieb, the best episode ever.

Then something happened, the voice artist behind Murphy, Harry Goz, passed away. It was a really sad fact, but the show proved in 2 episodes "Splitsville" and "Frozen Dinner" that they could do the show without a captain. But instead of staying like that, they went to a new guy, ex-football coach Tornado Shanks. If Shanks was all the creators could think of as a replacement, they could've just canceled the show. Seriously. The guy is unfunny and was severely in the way. As a result, the show became overly random and trying to outdo Aqua Teen Hunger Force as the weird violent show. It wasn't even close to Aqua Teen the way they were going and the show started to fall flat. For example, check out Let Em Eat Corn or better yet, watch Isla of Chupacabra and see if the show even tried to do good without Murphy.

It just didn't. It became a shell of it's former self. A desperate unfunny overly violent, trying too hard to be funny self. Murphy must be ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE.

Bottom line: Buy Seasons 1 and 2 of Sealab today and maybe rent Season 3 since it's the last one to have Murphy but contains Shanks episode. Sigh... R.I.P. Harry Goz.

8 out of 10 for Murphy and 1.5 out of 10 for Shanks.
  • As everyone here so far has said, "Sealab 2021" is just hilarious. What makes this show really brilliant is that the episodes follow no particular rules or format. Anything (or nothing at all) can happen and generally does, whether the crew members are striking each other with sticks; the Captain is feeding his Gremlin-like pet "Gloop" liquor, causing it to multiply; or Sealab is invaded by the "Bizarro" crew. (Now that was just friggin' hilarious, with the word "Bizarro" repeated about 100 times.) Enjoy. Adult cartoons don't get much better than this.
  • "SeaLab 2021" is absolutely hilarious. It's easily the most screwed up show I've ever seen, and I'm completely addicted. Although they've only made 10 or so episodes, even watching repeats is better than almost anything on television. Every character, from Hesh screaming about sex to Marco (voiced by Erik Estrada, of all people!) showing off his muscles, is funny and unique. Best of all: the show has no plot whatsoever. Each episode is pure jokes- plot is just background. If you don't believe me, see the episode where the entire crew is talking about becoming robots as the SeaLab explodes. My favorite shows of all-time used to be "Simpsons" and "Clerks: The Animated Series," but now "SeaLab 2021" joins that elite group. I hope this show never stops production- hell, production must be cheap, since they use animation from the original, early '70s show. I'm a diehard fan, and I think everyone else on earth should be.
  • I mean, this show is pretty much pure brilliance stacked on top of pure brilliance. If you don't find it funny you either a) have no soul or b) didn't know Grizzlebee's delivers...Cowabunga!

Admittedly it wasn't the same without Captain Murphy, and while I do appreciate they tried to continue the series, and I do love Tornado Shanks, it had clearly hit its peak and it was best they just move on. Sadly. Metalocalypse however should have never stopped. Never!!!
  • Seasons 1, 2 and 3 were the glory days of Sealab 2021. When Harry Goz, the voice talent of the main character Captain Murphy, died, things started to take a turn downhill.

Shanks, a football coach that appeared in the episode "Tornado Shanks" in season 4, replaces Murphy in the following seasons. There are some funny episodes, but some of them make a long-time Sealab fans cringe at the sight. Sealab has never really recovered from Harry Goz's untimely death. If you want to see the best of Sealab, pick up seasons 1, 2 & 3. After that, watch at your own risk.

Seasons 1, 2 and 3 get a solid 9/10 in my book. Sealab 2021 did a lot for Adult Swim before Aqua Teen Hunger Force took the main stage. I still watch Sealab, but sometimes it's very painful. Newer episodes like to borrow ideas from the earlier seasons to try and represent it and make it still funny. Doesn't always work too well.

However season 5 continues to show more promise, and season 6 is in talks - and I actually look forward to that. I would definitely avoid season 4, I don't know what happened there but it is awful. Now though, I think the crew at Williams Street finally got its edge back and Sealab is beginning to pick up speed again. I'd like to see Sealab be consistently funny again.

I hope Sealab is put to rest on a good note. But until that day, I am sure there are plenty more great Sealab episodes to come.
  • Something about that campy old cartoon footage really turned on everybody involved in writing, editing and voicing this show. The chemistry of it is like if train wrecks were funnier, and you could wreck trains for 20 minutes every week. I hope my review makes you proud, Cap'n.

Oo, brings a little tear to my eye.
  • A re-imagining of the old "Sealab 2020" cartoon from the early 1970's. This short 11 minute cartoon series was simply insanely stream-of-geek-conciseness and utterly hilarious (for the first 3 seasons) After the death of the immensely great Harry Goz, the show took a nosedive straight into the crapper. His Captain Murphy character was the glue that held the great series together and without his the humor just ceased to be there anymore. In my eyes the show ceased to exist a little before the end of season 3, it just took two more years to bury the then bloated and long since dead show.

    Harry episodes grade: A

    After his sad death: D
  • First off, I really enjoy the classic william streets and AS shows like Space Ghost Coast to Coast, The Brak show and especially Aqua Teen Hunger Force for their silly surreal humour, creative and wacky characters and their retro hanna barbera animation style. So i was really looking forward to check out this one, but before that i checked out the original Sealab 2020 and it happened to be really good for an HB cartoon, it was more serious, of course, but also intresting and even educational for kids, sadly it only had 13 episodes and it was immediately forgotten when it ended.

And with that I really didnt know what to expect from it, so i started watching it and like I already mentioned, I was disappointed. While the shows humour is still silly and surreal like the ones in the other shows i mentioned earlier from the same Animation studio, this one just isnt as good, and unlike those, this one can be really offensive just for the sake of shocking viewers, and in order for offensive comedy make people laugh, it must have a point, right? But no, the shows humour is randomly offensive and unfunny. As for the characters, their personality has nothing to do with the original ones. In the old one they didnt have much personality shown but atleast you could see that they were inteligent, brave and likeable people, which I bet that if the show continued they could be many little kids role models. So what do you do with such a bright crew of scientists like that one? Well, turn them into a group of dislikeable insane idiots, of course. The only one that mostly stayed the same is the African-American scientist. And also there is absolutely no plot, no adventures, everything just happens randomly.

And yes, Space Ghost also suffered from many crazy changes in Space Ghost Coast to Coast (mostly the characters) but the idea of making a talk-show starting with those characters is a really creative and funny idea. Also Sealab 2020 was a very original and unique idea for a kids cartoon, I bet that it would have gotten better over time, who knows?! Maybe it would turn out to become as popular/iconic as Johnny Quest or even Scooby-Doo.

So, all I can say is WHAT A WAASTE! Even if this was an original show from AS, it would still be a very mediocre one but just the fact that this is supposedly a spin-off of the old crimminaly-underrated bright show that had so much potential makes me even sadder because it tottaly ruined the franchise.

So there you go,If you like old Hanna Barbera cartoons or hell, any cartoon, i really dont recommend this one! the only reason I am giving it a 5/10 is because I am a fan of william streets shows and I also liked the character Sharko, he was kind of like the jar-jar binks from that show but he was funny and a creative idea for a character.

Part of Cartoon Networks Adult Swim Line up. It is the year 2021 and the members of the Sealab are crazy. In one episode, Debbie's biological clock goes off and she desperately searches for a suitable mate to father her child. Odd thing is part of the time she has a baby dolphin under her arm for no reason adding to the absurdity of the episode. In another episode a flesh eating alien infests the Sealab. But my favorite episode yet features the head of Sealab uses a bouey antenna to create a pirate radio station and becomes a shock jock. But through new laws, the FCC has the right to blow up pirate radio stations at will. The FCC officers hunt the ocean for the sealab cursing like sailors in the process(bleeped out of course). This is a great cheesy little cartoon that can get addictive.

This is such a ridiculously funny short cartoon. I think it's better that it's not a full half-hour; the format it has now seems to fit better. You have to stay up real late to watch it, but if you're into faster-paced humor without those annoying laugh tracks, you will probably like this.
  • At first I couldn't believe that a 11 min. show could be so good, but now after watching many episodes of Sealab I've changed my mind. After I watched my first episode I thought it was too all over the place but now I've gotten used to it and it's easier to follow the story. My favorite character is Quinn because he is the most sane on board and he tries to keep the crew from going completely crazy, even though they usually do by the end of the episode. This is just an all-around good show that is going in a direction that I'm happy is being explored. One more thing though, I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I can watch an 11 minute show and feel like they could have cut some parts out and made it a better episode.
  • The first Sealab 2021 episode I saw was titled 'Predator.' I saw it on its first run in September of 2001. The episode cracked me up. Cartoon Network finally stepped over a line or two in a great way. Sealab 2021 is fresh comedy that TV has needed. I am happy that more people are starting to see it now. From the ridiculous, yet lovable Capt. Murphy to the sadistic Sparks this show really keeps you entertained. Cartoon Network has been changing its time slot lately so be on the look out for it. Apparently it has been renewed for 13 more episodes. Unfortunately they havent been showing new episodes in the past month or so. Check this show out.
  • Cartoon Network's dedicated team of lunatics, misfits and stoners at Adult Swim take hold of a staid, stodgy ancient cartoon (SeaLab 2020) and move it one year on to where the crew are bored, listless, and borderline insane...

Dodgy animation loops blend perfectly with edgy humour (Sparks: "Like veal. But with BABIES. I'm talkin' reaalll baby back ribs here...") and the show pokes fun at just about every cartoon standard.

Best of all is their take on the "evil twin" shtick, when the hideous mutant Bizarro versions of the crew show up. Simple yet genius - please let Adult Swim loose in the UK...
  • Being a fan of SOUTH PARK I was eager to look into Adult Swim. I had seen a preview as I work for the local cable company's advertising division. I laughed so hard I nearly passed out (it was the clip of the the FCC sailors cursing back and forth over the FCC mandate). "Thanks a lot for the ****ing back story!" "Hey! You watch your ****ing mouth!"

The show is great for the SCUBA diving humor, the self-digs, and more. I remember the old series and this one is much better. I love SPARKS, he's so cold and cool.

    "SEEEAAA LAB!"
  • Sealab 2021 one of the new Adult Swim shows by Cartoon Network is one of the funniest cartoons ever made and one of the better toons on the Network. It's a breath of fresh air considering that Toon's network lineup consist of such awful created like "Ed Ed and Eddy" , "Courage the Cowardly Dog" and other abominations of American mediocre toonists.

Sealab humor takes place on an underwater sealab. The crew consists of a old idiotic captain, his crew which consists of Marco (the funny voice of chips reject Erik Estrada), a lovely blonde bombshell, and kid with a dolphins voice

    to name a few.

The show pokes fun at the characters and at race relations and other cartoons on the air.

In one episode I saw, the episode poke fun of Hollywood using as the basis the crew, and their popularity.

    It's just absolute funny.

One person said he didn't recommend it, but then contradicted himself by saying it was addictively funny.

LoL. Make up youre mind you can't have it both ways.

Anyhow a great toon, the Great Critic says so.
  • I don't think I had ever seen the original cartoon this one spoofs, but I still find it hilarious. Mainly, cause I have seen cartoons of this like before and you can tell it was the typical 70's cartoon. The captain and the one voiced by the guy from Chips have to be my favorite characters in this one. I especially like the captain who is so stupid, but he has a certain appeal. This show usually has the crew facing some threat or another in their underwater lab. One of my favorites is when an alien or something was on board and killing everyone and somehow the captain thinks that it is repelled by getting fat so he and the other survivor beginning eating everything and end up fat. Another one I like was this one that was a preview of a Sealab movie called Tinfin. There is one part of this that makes fun of the girls gone wild videos and I just about died laughing cause as stupid as it was it was also so true. This one is just funny...that is all there is to it.
  • This is one the greatest shows on TV. I still remember the first time I watched it. I think I woke the whole house up, I was laughing so hard. Harry Goz as Murphy is incredible. "Do you want the mustache on or off!!
  • Consistently hysterical fifteen minute cartoon on the cartoon network. Arguably the funniest of the "Adult Swim" cartoons. References range from Jonathan Swift to the Incredible Hulk. Tends towards the surreal (especially "Waking Quinn"). Has far better comic timing than one would think possible with primarily recycled animation.
  • I got turned on to this show on Saturday. A friend of mine came over and started spouting out quotes from the show and I had no idea what she was on about and then she wrote 'Sea Lab 2021 rulez your soul' in my yearbook so I watched to show - so funny oh my god, I loved it so much. My favorite episode is the one where Debbie is trying to find someone to father her child. 'I got you something' 'What is it?' 'A book' 'What's it called?' 'A modest proposal' 'By whom?' 'Jonathan Swift' 'And what's the book about?'<long long pause> 'eating babies' 'you're sick!' 'it's like veal, only babies, I'm talking real baby back ribs!' mwahahahahahahaha that is my favorite part of all time. Everyone should watch Sea Lab 2021 - it makes life worth living. ok maybe I won't go that far but the show rocks beyond all reason!!
  • Warning: Spoilers
To be honest, I just got into the whole "Sealab 2021" thing, and I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad to be a part of it!

The adventures (Or rather misadventures)of the crew of Sealab is a hoot. No one really seems to be doing any work, and everyone seems to have went off the deep end, especially the Captain. Almost every episode has the lab blowing up or one of the crew dying, yet everything's intact in the next episode.

My favorite? It's a tie between the episodes "The Policy," in which Capt. Murphy forces his crew to search for sunken treasure so he can pay his HUGE credit card bill, and "Craptastic Voyage," in which the crew shrinks to microscopic size in order to destroy a tumor in Shank's head.

This show truly fits in the "Adult Swim" schedule, because this isn't something that kids should see: Sex, nudity (blurred, of course), drug references or usage, and violence are the norm under the sea.

If you haven't jumped on-board, you're missing the cruise. Check out the DVD, which really has some cool stuff like deleted scenes and a tribute to Harry Goz, who played Capt. Murphy. The theme song is even contagious!

One word can describe this show: Insanity!
  • Warning: Spoilers
When "Sealab 2020" was made in 1972, environmentalism was sweeping the nation. We also though that colonies on the Moon or in the ocean were around the corner. Hanna-Barbera combined these two things into the now forgotten series "Sealab 2020", a series that deserved oblivion due to it's intense preachiness. Some genius, remembering Woody Allen's "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" and the long forgotten 1980's show "Mad Movies", bought the rights, hired a cast, and began remixing the staid "2020" into "Sealab 2021." The name of the game for "Sealab 2021" is completely mocking the original series; the captain now has a fixation for an Easybake Oven, the radio guy wants to take over the world, the Erik Estrada-voiced Hispanic guy is a moron, and the French guy is now unintelligible (but comes with subtitles.) I think everyone is going nuts due to budget cutbacks, or maybe they've been watching too much "Aqua Teen Hunger Force." At any rate, it's a good excuse to stay up until 11:45pm on Sundays.
  • This is the funniest thing I have ever seen. This spanks cartmans ass for coolness. Best show on TV at the moment and probably Best Cartoon I have ever seen. Thank god, I came across this because this is gold dust.
  • In the fine tradition of "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast", they took another semi-obscure Alex Toth creation and made a total mockery of it. This might not be funny to people who never saw these cartoons as kids, but it is hilarious to the rest of us! The sad thing is, they probably have already made more episodes of the spoof than the original show ever had. It makes me yearn for a time when times were simpler and cartoons were good!
