With the exceptions of King Louie the Orangutan, Winifred the Elephant (Colonel Hathi's mate), and the wolf pack, all the characters from The Jungle Book (1967) return in this sequel. The character of King Louie was cut, because Disney would have had to pay the estate of voice actor Louis Prima had the character appeared in the film in any form. This problem must have been overcome eventually, because a new version of Louie appears in The Jungle Book (2016).
Mowgli:
I never knew where I came from. But I always knew where I belonged.
Before the "Jungle Rhythm" song, Shanti picks up an empty basket and puts three mangoes in it. In the next shot with the basket, it is full of mangoes, with no time to pick that many.
Part of the end credits cast shadows on a backdrop, similar to Mowgli's shadow-puppets in the beginning of the film.
