PG-13 | | Horror, Mystery, Thriller
A psychology student finds all her childhood fears and phobias becoming real after a traumatic event.
Marc Blucas, who stars as Paul Loomis in this film, also played the character of Riley Finn in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1996). Emma Caulfield Ford, who was his costar on the series as Anya, starred in Darkness Falls (2003), a movie in which a supernatural creature moved in the safety of darkness and was harmed by light.
When Julia looks through documents from her case as a child, we see the letterhead of State Mental Health Assoc... in Center City, Washington 20158. All ZIP codes in Washington state begin with 98- or 99-. The ZIP code listed would be in Virginia. This is most likely a reference to Washington DC since "Center City" is a neighborhood/nickname in the district's inner section, but the ZIP code would still be incorrect, "Center City" is not an official postal designation, and "Washington" is still missing "D.C."
The work print features this alternate ending which is not available on DVD anywhere. When Julia is knocked out in the subway it cuts to 9 months later in a mental hospital. Julia convinces a panel of psychiatrists, including Dr. Booth, that she is cured. She sees one of the monsters climb through an air shaft in the ceiling, but continues to claim that "They" don't exist. She is released and goes home only to set up high-powered lights all over her apartment. The camera pulls out of her bedroom as she sits on her bed. A door creaks open in her darkened hall and it cuts to black.
