A very obscure and highly recommended voodoo jungle film
I know that some people do collect flicks coming out of Mexico. They are mostly sleazy in some kind of way and this flick here is one like that. But there's more going on. La Isla De Rarotonga is one of those Mexican flicks that is very obscure to find and it is hunted down due one reason, the actress La Princesa Lea who plays some kind of witch on an Island. Most of her flicks are very hard to find and they were never subtitled but still this here is watchable even as you don't understand Spanish. Mine was on the Cosmos label, uncut 84 minute long and contains all of the nude scenes and full frontal nudity of La Princesa Lea.
She was a legendary actress back then in the seventies and eighties and this flick also was her first main role. She started as some kind of Burlesque dancer and became famous when bathing during its spectacle of night club in a giant glass of champagne. Her flicks were played in the biggest cinemas back then in Mexico. But nothing is known about her, she stopped performing in 1991 and rumours go that she's death nowadays.
But La Isla De Rarotonga is just a pure sleazy voodoo flick. It do has a lot of gratuitous nudity by Princesa Lea as also from other thespians in this flick. There is even some full frontal nudity. On part of the horror it's very low on everything. I couldn't find a spot of blood in this voodoo flick but the story looked great and the way it was filmed did add something towards the flick too. Princesa also dances a lot here in a very erotic way and performs with real fire over her arms and hands, a must see, no tricks were used.
But what makes it sleazy is that for a Goddess or Bruja (Witch) she do walks around in leopard print G-string or in small bikini's or even in nothing at all. Further in the movie when the family is captured they do have to strip naked and being prisoned but the youth is watching each other again in full frontal nudity. It's strange for a flick coming from Mexico that it contained so much of nude shots.
The directing looked okay and was done by Alfredo 'La Dinastia De Dracula' Crevenna. Editing was not that good with a few black parts between cuts but overall, a watchable 'love story' flick with a very hot Princesa Lea. Strange that she never broke through in the US.
