The pilot was shot when Kyla Pratt was 12 and the show didn't get picked up until she was 14. This is why Pratt appears older in season 1, episode 2 than in the pilot.

The show's theme song was written and performed by Flex Alexander's wife Shanice.

Season 5 served as a soft-reboot to the series where as in the previous 4 seasons it was stated that Flex played for the New York Knicks, Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers in his NBA career. But during the fifth season it was retconned to be him playing a few games before getting kicked out of the NBA, as the show was trying to distance itself from Flex Alexander's character and more focused on Kyla Pratt's character.

The show's cancellation was blamed on Dawn Ostroff's decision on completely changing the show for season 5 in order to cater to a different audience rather than the audience the show had built over the years with great ratings. This change led the decline in ratings in the fifth season and UPN's decision not to renew for a season six.

Kyla Pratt and Robert Ri'chard are the only cast members to appear in every episode.

Exterior shots of Flex's condo building are of Henderson's Wharf in the historic Fell's Point area of Baltimore. The Inn at Henderson's Wharf is an elegant boutique hotel on the first floor, with private condos above.
