  • This game is an incredible improvement on the first. I loved AVP for all it was worth, and this is all that and so much more. The ONLY downside of this game is that it's reletivly short, each campaign is only six levels or so. The game-play is phenominal however, whether the marine alien or predator, it's loads of fun. Each has it's own benefits, and weaknesses.

As the marine, you have access to an assorment of weapons, a few rather potent ones too. You even get different kinds of ammo for them, like amor piercing rounds for the otherwise weak pistol, or shotgun slugs instead of scattershot. Also, in addition to all the weapons from AVP, you also now can get a sniper rifle, though the single player modes don't really have you use it at any point, it's still a good addition for multiplay value alone. The marine is pretty good mostly for his motion tracker, and the weapons, basically everything you have is a projectile weapon, except the knife. This is good and bad, You never really have to get close to anything, but if your wasteful with ammo your screwed. The marine is essentialy the weakest physical character in the game. You can barely jump, and your really slow in comparison to either the predator or the alien.

As the alien, you have only what's attached to you. Your weapons are your claws and your tail. The alien is possibly the most fun to play though, being stealthy and creeping up behind marines is quite a lot of fun, not to mention biting all their heads off. Your claws basically just rip people up, and your tail just kinda stuns em, but if you charge up your tail (I know, sounds weird) you can kill just about anything aside from the predator with one quick shot. The fastest creature in the game, and possibly the single most fun to play as. The only real addition to the alien since AVP is the pounce attack, you jump foward a good distance and rake your claws on whatever what land on.

As the predator, you have all kinds of weirdo gadgets and gear to help you out. The predator is pretty cool, has the cloaking ability, and the highest jump in the game. Not to mention the vision modes, one for each species. Makes everything your trying to kill stick out like a third testicle. With an oddly advanced sort of technology, the predator is the epitome of the everything a hunter should be. You can snipe from a distance, or sneak up right next to them and thwak their heads off. The biggest addition to the predator is the charger, you no longer have to wait to build energy, if you find a quite spot you can fill it all up real quick. The plasma gun has been modified, it now shoots more like a pistol, less like a mortar. The addition of the netgun is kinda superficial, not exactly a horribly useful weapon, I mean, it doesn't kill anything.

Overall, I think AVP 2 is an incredible sequal to the original. I for one look very forward to an AVP 3, and if I live that long, an AVP 4.
  • Where the first merely sought to recreate the various locations, creatures and weapons of the six cinematic entries into the universes, this not only does that(and adding basically everything that the first didn't get, as far as the last of those go, and also equipment), but goes beyond, and includes several new designs. This isn't terribly long, but the previous one wasn't, either(and at least this doesn't attempt to hide this fact through the difficulty). This offers an authentic merge of the two series, not to mention a pretty darn entertaining experience. There isn't really any re-playability, admittedly, except for putting all the pieces of the overall story together(these are found throughout each of the three campaigns, and are at no point herein summarized or put together, this is left up to the individual... either to do by themselves, or to Wiki it). It has atmosphere to spare, and it is built up masterfully. The single-player portions aren't equally long, they seem to get shorter, starting with the human and going past the more technologically advanced outer space being. It's hard to find something in the movies not featured in this... without it being a crutch, either(obviously the sections in them(mostly) aren't found here). The cut-scenes are all within the engine, but they are well-done, with quite good cinematography and editing(and scripting). The graphics are absolutely gorgeous... movements look natural and realistic, and the detail in them is impressive, allowing for subtle facial expression and the like(it's really no wonder they used it so much, with nothing being done in full animation or live action). Unlike the first one, this doesn't offer bots for multi-player. That doesn't by a long shot mean that this isn't fun beyond the main portion... you can spend hours battling it out with others, and the optional class systems really help make things interesting. It could need some more modes for it, however... about two thirds of them are more or less the same(two teams versus each other, fragging). There are perhaps not all that many levels(it should be noted that there weren't for the one preceding it, either) for it... but they're almost invariably well-done, and a joy for the different ones(not always as much for every one of them) to run around and wage the continuing interspecies war in. And on that... the odds have shifted, and it's much more fair and even. Now not a single of the sides seem weak or slow as such when you're controlling them, they simply do better in different situations(meanwhile, both when by yourself and against or with others, this allows for them). The AI is absolutely great, and rather accurate... just about every single foe you fight behaves the way it should(I will choose this for where I interject that the wall-walking has been *vastly* improved, and now, little if any "sticking" takes place, regardless of who does the moving). The story lines intersect, and more than once, at that. They're complex(and not the only thing that that applies to, either), well-told, intriguing and true to character all the way. One thing that has got to get a mention is how incredibly smooth this is. Not just in that there are nearly no bugs or glitches(and I've yet to see any biggies), but it runs so well, the game-play(which is awesome and enjoyable almost without exception), everything. The difficulty levels are about spot-on... if you have any skills as far as FPS' go, you should be able to complete this on the easiest, and if you try for the hardest, you will find this intense. The new stuff brought in, for all of them, improves(the same goes for most of the things where this differs from the first), makes them better, more engaging, to control. This actually has the life cycle of the Xenomorph(also as an on/off feature for MP). The music changes when there are opponents around(and they are aware of your presence), giving the sense of being in a scored film, set in these worlds. The audio in general is exceptionally done, and thorough. Voice acting is marvelous. The boss enemies are very nicely done, great fights. Level design is excellent, it all comes together extremely well, and all the races get to do what they do best... and without anything seeming out of place, or this ever requiring you to suspend your disbelief(beyond what the concept itself asks, and if you're reading this and/or considering playing this, you most likely already do so). The areas explored, the sheer amount, and the versatility of them... other planets entirely dissimilar from what we know, foreign technology, as well as buildings in a similar style and architecture as what the original efforts on the Xenomorph contains(without it being straight remakes, like it was in the installation this is a successor to). The dismemberment is enormously well-done, so believable and so many... gore and blood never seems underdone or anything in this. It's really *the* game for enthusiasts. What minor stuff still remains not integrated is seldom missed... more so after the release of the expansion pack, Primal Hunt, where they were there, but they weren't done right, and messed up the balance. The references are more homages than direct rip-offs, and this could, if need be, stand on its own, any player who doesn't know the source material could largely "get" it and find him- or herself into it. Both this and the one before it are worth investing time in, and they can be beaten utterly independent of each other(save for the theme, drawing inspiration from the same sources and sharing a title, one really has no connection to the other). If it's one or the other, then there's no reason to ponder... this is the choice. I recommend this to any fan of Alien, Marine and/or Predator, and really anyone who enjoys solid FPS', and unique ones. This is noticeably more well-rounded and fulfilled than the other(it just doesn't have Co-Op like it). 8/10
  • I LOVE THIS GAME!!! Got it for christmas, spent the rest of the vacation playing it. I probably like the Marines campain best and the predators abilatys (love the shoulder cannon) I was scared to death with this thing!! The aliens are also fun to play as, I WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF COMING OUT OF THE GUYS CHEST.
  • Wowweee! What the hell was that, nothing but a roller coaster... If, like me, you are that kind 'o guy that absolutely worships the alien saga and has always wanted to take to the field killing aliens or (humans or both), but are a little afraid of being caught by the police and sort of out of ammo, then this is THE game you've been looking for.

I have never seen such a brilliantly reproduced atmosphere in a film inspired game before. Lots of the mistakes that the first AVP had were corrected here, such as the one-off missions (that had hardly any connection with each other), and many others which aren't worth mentioning.

this is the only game I've ever played (and belive me I played many) that instilled fear in me. I mean pure, absolute fear! Fear of giving a single step forward, of looking back at what's lurking behind you or fear at the horrible noises coming from around the corner. It's everything the film saga is and a whole lot more.

about the species: either one you choose will be as challenging. the marine has the obvious limitations of humans; the predator has the most amazing weapons in the galaxy, and the alien is... well, just different. the game isn't all that hard to finish as the first AVP, because you can save your progress now. However, it does has a number of difficulty levels, that turn the game into a challenging experience.

the new abilities - such as pounce, or the wallwalk toggle - will add enormously to the gaming experience. The alien is a lot stealthier, although some abilities - like the predator vision modes - will circumvent this. but there's where your tactical genius will have to intervene. a good alien player will find a way around this, which will usually mean charging the enemy headlong, hitting fast and hard.

getting in the skin of the predator gives you a sense of invincibility - untill you start getting hacked left and right. believe me, there is a level that took me and my brother almost a month to complete (old debts). it's a cave full of aliens, that shows just how inefficient your high-tech weapons can be. but the real pleasure is when you hunt humans; it's always fun collecting the trophies and snipping at the sentry guns.

the marine as a good range of equipment, from the trusty old m41a, to the blowtorch, the smart gun and the hacking device. too bad that you can't get any of the really heavy stuff untill the end of the game (like the battle suit).
  • It might seem weird to review a video game on a film site, but this is a very particular case: first, the source medium is not one but two series of films, and second, attempts to follow the present product in film form have been undisputed disasters. How could you get those so wrong and this so right?

First things first, the Alien series is perhaps the finest adult science-fiction series in existence, a visionary horror saga that plays on our Lovecraftian fears of the cosmic unknown and delivers the greatest monster of all time. The Predator is a worthy challenger, showcased in one of the greatest sci-fi action films ever made. In the early Alien and first Predator films, we have not just great monsters, but master directors conjuring a perfect atmosphere. That is where Sierra crucially got things right with this game!

This feels like being in a blend of Alien and Aliens, and you will feel fear, no matter the species you choose, for yes, this is a three-scenario game: one as a human marine, one as a predator, one as an alien, and all threads interweave several times. A mighty arsenal is thrown at you in all categories, but you will rarely feel better than merely safe (perhaps as the Predator). The human thread is the most spine-tingling of the lot, and the thrill of holding that pulse rifle quickly evaporates when the motion sensor starts beeping.

Whichever way you look at it, this is a glorious solitary journey into claustrophobic fear and violence, making the leap from effectiveness to greatness by arming itself with tight and smart parallel narrative structures (in several cases, as one species, you see who you'd be playing had you chosen the other). For gamers and general shoot'em-up fans this is essential. for fans of either of Fox's monsters, this is too good to be true!

This is absolutely the best game I have ever played. One word; DYNAMIC! From start the finish this game will scare the holey hell out of you. The combination of music, intense graphics, and realistic game play make for a ride you wont forget. I am abosolutely addicted to this thing. It never gets boring, no matter how many times you play it, and no matter which role you are playing. Buy this game, you won't regret it. Props to the makers. VERY well done.
  • Aliens Vs. Predator II is by far the best and most addicting game I have ever played. Okay, it's gory when you kill people, but AVP II is still a fun game to play. You will just drool at the graphics!

Unlike Aliens Vs Predator and Aliens Vs. Predator Gold Edition, this game has a storyline and cutscenes between levels.

The Xenomorph and Pilot Alien Homeworld is LV-1201. The Xenomorph Drone (Alien) you can play as is born as a face-hugger and you must work your way up to maturity. Then, you set out on a quest to stop Dr. Eisenberg from taking the Alien Empress away from your kind. In addition to the Claw, Tail, and Jaw attacks, you can use a new Pounce attack.

The Colonial Marine (Andrew Harrison) you can play as is sent to LV-1201 with other Marines to investigate an accident at Dr. Eisenberg's research facility. However, the Iron Bears, a pack of evil Marines (Most of them dressed in orange) arrest you and send the rest of your team on a suicide mission into an underground Alien base (Built by Pilot Aliens thousands of years ago. Remember them from Alien?). Utilizing a knife, Pistol, Shotgun, Pulse Rifle, Grenade Launcher, Flamethrower, Rocket Launcher, Smartgun, Sniper Rifle, Minigun, and Exosuit (Armed with Flamethrower, Rocket Launcher, and a Minigun), you must ransack Alien bases, weaken the Iron Bears, and rescue the rest of your team before the bugs get to them.

The Yautja Hunter (Predator) you can play as will journey to LV-1201 to hunt humans and Xenomorph. Two of your clan mates are abducted and during your rescue attempt, you are (Your clan mates are killed by scientists). Your mask is taken as a "trophy" by the evil General Rykov, the leader of the Iron Bears (He is mad at you for shooting him with a Plasmacaster and critically injuring him 19 years before the Incident on LV-1201). You must take back what is yours and restore your honor. You will use Wristblades, a Combistick (Spear), Modified Plasma Pistol, Speargun, Plasmacaster, Disc, Netgun, and Remote Bombs to kill game and destroy the Iron Bears and eventually, General Rykov.

I have said this once and I'll say it again, Aliens Vs. Predator II is the greatest game ever made. I must say that the people at Sierra did an excellent job with the game. At times, expect to be frightened by false scares, Aliens jumping at you from nowhere, Predators shooting at you from all directions, and Marines tooting off their weapons in the most quiet of places. In think anyone should give this game a try. It is definitely worth your time and money.
  • Thats right its been 7 years since AVP2 hit the PC, and after all this time its still among the best video games ever made..

For those who don't know, the single player mode is like the original as you play as 3 different species which leads to 3 different endings.

AVP2 also allows you to play online against players from all over the world, single and multilayer maps are still being made and up for download on the web, as well as skins, and MOD packs.

Overall If your a single player and/or a multilayer fan, this games for you...

To this day AVP2 is still going STRONG, BRING ON AVP3!
  • From the developers who brought you Blood, Blood-2, NoLF, F.E.A.R and a whole bunch of other games, comes AvP-2. Enough good can't be said about this game and it totally rocks. The level design is utterly brilliant and it actually has a complicated story. The Lithtech engine has been pushed to the limits and the atmosphere and tension is unbeatable.

There is one huge flaw however, and that is the quality of Alien Models. Monolith have screwed up the Alien models quite badly and they are low poly crap with utterly horrible skins than look like rubber suits. The Aliens in AvP-1 were actually much better looking and scarier. The chestburster, the Alien Queen alien cocoons and nests have similarly, been horribly modeled. Fortunately, good level design has made up for all that. The Alien Queen was stupid and too easy to defeat. The facehuggers similarly, run to you and stop, before attacking, making them easy targets.

Despite its flaws, AvP-2 is not just one of the best FPSs ever made but also one of the best games ever made.
  • You want a great AVP game? Here it is! Forget the games from 1993 and 1999. This one is the real deal! Forget the movies too. OK, the 2010 video game was OK, but this one... damn! OK, OK... now you get to play, again, with the marine, predator and alien. And each of them has a story-mission, that is connected to each other. That's the best thing about this video game, it has a perfect story that connects characters. Each and everyone of them is very playable, so you can chose and enjoy all of them, they are different of course, but I like how they did a perfect atmosphere and terrain for each of them. With alien, you got pretty rough terrain, with lot of jumping, climbing... but alien has next advantages: He is extremely fast, agile and powerful, he can tore apart a marine in just a second, for example. The predator's mission are pretty interesting, in my opinion most enjoyable of all three. You really feel like predator, it's so cool and sexy :). Predator is also strong, with advanced weaponry and hunting skills, but he is pretty slow. The marine has really cool, atmospheric missions, which are really scary, really, really creepy, and you got a bunch of big weapons that can save your butt if you are ready to use them in high voltage action. The marine's advantage is his weapons, use them wisely. I am not saying anything anymore, get this game and have fun!
  • The first difficulty in this game is mastering the keys function. I was close to drop it for this (more than 20 different keys to remember) but i stuck, playing at minima. Then, for those like me who only play in God mode, the cheats you find on the web forget to tell that this mode begins with sending a message (maybe it's the "Enter" key but check this!). And beware, for the key that opens door unless you can be frustrated quickly at the beginning of the game!

Having finished this, you can start to enjoy a great game, setting a feeling close to the "Aliens" movie. Quickly, the radar beeping, the empty base, the dark light oppressed me very much. I was truly not at ease all the more than I knew Aliens will come. And when they arrived, i jumped on my seat! And it's worse when the mission goes into the Aliens sanctum! Paradoxically, i was much afraid when Aliens weren't there even though when they are so many, they lose a bit of their power (remember the first movie when a single Alien could frighten and kill nearly 10 men!).

After those great levels, you are transported in a spaceship, where you are all alone (no more aliens, a few predators) and for a third of the game, you have no fun! Fortunately, you goes down on the planet to finish the work with the aliens!

Except with the middle part, this is a great game if you want to have a thrill. To enhance the "pleasure" (or the stress), play at night without any lights! Sometimes, the levels are a bit disorientating but you can always match your walk with the online video parts provided by other gamers! This is a new way to play video games and it's cool!
  • Many people thought that this is a good movie but I don't agree with them. At the beginning of the movie, a spaceship crushed on earth and some of the aliens escaped from the spaceship, then hey killed some people on the earth, but for no reason. Also, it is in a dark forest, I can't see anything on the screen, I can only hardly hear the sound.

After a few days, the predator came to the earth but no one had sent signals to him before that, he should not know what happened on the earth, so there is a contradiction. Finally, the predator found the headmaster of the aliens and killed it for no reason. He was not live on earth, t is none of his business about the things happened here. Lastly, the duration of the movie is only 90 minutes long, the summary is too short and it can't tell the reviewers about the story clearly.

In conclusion, I don't think this is a good movie.
  • Let me start off that I love Predator and Alien 1&2(I like Predator a bit more than the alien movies though). So after playing AvP 1 I got hooked. I couldn't stop playing. Having the power of the Predator at your very hands...amazing. But I didn't like that the Predator in AvP wasn't very true to the movies. Even small things like what color his health pool is to big things like no crouch jumps, not being very strong, and horrible cloaking(marines can see you even when you're cloaked half the time). Also the levels very rarely intertwined with one another.I also must say in AvP 1 marine mode was awful. I hated being marine. But don't get me wrong I loved the overall game!

When I got AvP2 I expected it to be like most movie and game sequels. Not as good as the first. Man was I wrong. The graphics are incredibly realistic. The plot is great. The levels are always intertwining, and the game is so true to the movies it makes a fan like me crazy about it. All the above I said Avp1 didn't have this game did. I guess we can attribute this to Sierra, the makers of Half Life. They took on AvP2 along with Fox Interactive and made this game great. Another thing about the first AvP. In Predator mode you never got to hop through trees. But you can in AvP2! I already beat Predator in AvP2, and am half way through in alien and marine(marine mode is like half life in this game...I love it). I don't know if I've lost you along the way but the point I want to make is that AvP2 is better than the first, and I recommend it to anyone, especially Predator,Alien, or even Half Life fans(but be warned, this game is not a copy of Half Life, it's much better!) And so 4/5 stars brings me to my conclusion. BUY THE GAME
  • fox should make a Avp3.. I mean.. i will buy it at first sight.... the game is fantastic:: the aliens with the head bite and pounce, the marines with the cool stuff (specially the sniper) and the predators with the plasma canon::: this game is definitely the best, of all others action, shoot game... Please Fox, make a third game, many of us (the fans) have really good ideas, for the third game... Please make a Avp3... The avp2 game has good graphic work and the history is the best I think... its logical.. good for make a movie of it... I think a very interesting and fantastic movie made of a fantastic game... like in resident evil... How about that?
  • Where to start? AvP2 (2001) PC is not only the best Alien or Predator game ever, (yes even better than Isolation, and I love that one too). Perfect stories in a new planet with new characters, the writing is unparalleled, better than all the movies, games and comics combined. It is simply the single best entry in the whole series.

All three campaigns make up one gigantic story. The world feels so alive, human conversations as you move through the levels, the computers, data pads and sheets of paper you can read that are rich in lore, each Predator and Alien has unique looks and even sounds/voices, best cheats in any game ever also the details in visuals for atmosphere the Space Jockey ruins, the Weyland-Yutani facilities, the jungles, the Alien hives you name it! It's got everything a hardcore Alien/Predator fan could dream of. All the characters and moments in the game are extremely memorable.

Besides a stellar single player the multiplayer is pure fun, thanks to sites like avpunknown you can still play it online!

I could go for hours on each detail that makes this game my favorite of all-time and my favorite entry from anything AvP, even better than the classic films, and the original Dark Horse AvP comic. Yes it's that good.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of this gem. I hope one day we get a film at least close to its greatness.

If you haven't already go ahead and give this game a try or if cannot at least watch a playthrough on YouTube.

    10/10
  • Truly the fully realized AVP experience. With three different campaigns featuring different play styles: the alien (more stealth based), the marine (more horror), and the Predator (a mix of the two), Alien vs Predator 2 is truly a great experience. Playing as the Alien especially is a ton of fun, but all the campaigns are well developed, well paced, and overall a ton of fun. Only problem with the game is the level design and layout makes navigation more trouble than it's worth, but don't let that deter you from a truly under appreciated gem in the rough that is this franchise.
  • Violence... don't you just love it? I mean, good, clean, violence, in which nobody gets hurt (the good thing about video games is they don't have any consequences). Well, this game sure is an outlet for your every day pressure. If you are the kinda guy that played quake and couldn't stop coming back for more, that only stops shooting when the corpses are gone (disintegrated), I suggest you play AvsP2. If you don't like to spill blood and guts across the screen, well... there's always that pokemon crap for you.

Now seriously, this has got to be the fastest and most addictive don't-know-what-has-hit-you-untill-the-aliens-are-all-over-you-beating-the- life-out-of-your-body-kind-of-in-you-face-gaming-experience. You just can't help it... it will make you fear for your life, and you WILL kill to stay alive! Just watch your back.

The game is scary, but it will make you go back for more! The more desperate it gets, the more will your resolve peak. Fear is the only thing that keeps you alive... that and good old shoulder cannon.
