Branko Tomovic (24: Live Another Day, Fury, Luna) sat down with Nuit Magazine to talk about his directing debut Red, acting and filmmaking. How did your acting career start? I saw David Lynch’s ‘Blue Velvet’ when I was around 13, probably a bit too young to be watching such a movie. I remember that I felt absolutely mesmerised. It was so different, beautiful, mysterious, haunting, surreal and twisted. And that’s when I knew that I wanted to work in film. I got a place at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York and the first thing I did after drama school was a Yugoslavian war film in Los Angeles called ‘Remote Control’, a graduation film from the American Film Institute which went on to...

Six years have passed since Rocksteady Games let the Joker run wild in Arkham Asylum, and the superbly skilled developer’s Batman trilogy has now come to a close with the release of Batman: Arkham Knight. As canon game three of three, it marks the end of one of gaming’s best story arcs, as well as one of its greatest triumphs thus far. However, in doing so, it leaves us conflicted. On one hand, we’re happy and thankful for having been treated to three fantastic outing that helped prove superhero games could be great; while, on the other, we’re saddened by knowing that such a good thing has had to end.
Over the last half-decade, few titles have matched the quality of both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Technically and mechanically, the two are nearly perfect superhero games which show an unparalleled attention to detail,...

If there’s one film you need to see this weekend, it’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. It’s funny, it’s fast-paced and it’s one insane, entertaining experience. Catch this one in the theater and with a crowd!
Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, X-Men First Class), Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.
Composers Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Matthew Margeson score the spy action adventure comedy. This is the second collaboration between Jackman and Margeson, who had worked previously on Kick Ass 2. The duo supplied the soundtrack for the star-studded Kingsman with Oscar winners Colin Firth and Michael Caine, Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson, and newcomer Taron Egerton.

This is the second collaboration between Jackman and Margeson, who had worked previously on Jeff Wadlow’s Kick Ass 2.
The duo have taken on the star-studded Kingsman with Oscar winners Colin Firth and Michael Caine, Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson, and newcomer Taron Egerton. Based on a comic book by Mark Millar, the story follows a veteran secret agent (Firth) who takes a young protégé (Egerton) under his wing.

Want to Control Your TV with Your Phone?
Admit it: you’re on your phone all the time. For many of us, it’s the first thing we check on in the morning (those emails aren’t going to answer themselves!) and the last thing you look at before you go to bed (just need to double-check that that alarm’s been set). Studies have shown that we now spend 23 days a year on our phones, and as we continue to get even more functionality out of our phones, that number continues to grow.
You probably use your phone as your enter the cinema, and whip it out as soon as the movie’s over too, and contrary to popular belief, we use our phones at home as much as we do while on-the-go. AlchemyBet, owners of Pocket Fruity, explained in a blog post that the majority (69%) of the people...

Recently we got a look at some leaked prototypes for upcoming toys based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but now new reports have come in revealing a more complete line-up of collectibles and more importantly a release date. Come inside to check it all out!
Perhaps the only thing more exciting (especially for collectors) than a new Star Wars movie on the horizon, are the new toys that will be accompanying the film. A couple days ago, RebelScum got the scoop on the line-up of The Force Awakens toys that will be launching later this year. While they're not terribly revealing (not even using the names of characters we know), and stick with the normal stuff we're used to, like typical action figures and vehicle accessories, but there are some neat reveals too. Mostly, it looks like MicroMachines will be making a return! Check out the list:

Steve Jablonsky would be among the millions excited about the opening of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” tomorrow if he weren’t so fatigued. “I barely know what day it is,” he says. Since last December, he has worked on the score for Michael Bay’s new “Transformers” film. He’s so tired, he’s not even sure how much music is in the film. “It’s about two hours of music,” he says. “We could figure it out, but we’re all too exhausted.” He has another algorithm: Working on one Michael Bay film is like “scoring two-and-a-half smaller films.” He finished the score in early June, mere days before the movie debuted in Hong Kong. “Some people have told me not to mention how last minute it was, but at the premiere, Michael stood up and said, ‘I finished this film 40 hours ago.’ This one was the craziest film of them all.

Flappy Bird has made its mark as the most frustrating video game of recent times – so much so in fact, that the creator has made it unavailable for download, explaining that all the complaints and attention “ruined [his] life.” However, in light of this episode, we have decided to find 13 games that are actually even more frustrating than Flappy Bird, so much so that at times you would like to throw your controller through your TV (or keyboard into your monitor, as it were) if you played them.
While I could have easily gone for the obvious games like Dark Souls or Battletoads, I opted to take a different route, finding titles that in difficulty may be fine, but when it comes to certain aspects may be tedious at best, and flat out frustrating at worst. Note that just because these games are on this list doesn’t mean...

Sneak Peek more footage from director José Padilla's slick and seriously entertaining, sometimes terrifying reboot of "RoboCop", with an opening action sequence, that is a classic in the genre:

Back in the day — 1993, a time when people still used the expression “back in the day” — MTV was still synonymous with music. But that perception was changing rapidly as the Clinton era got underway, thanks to the Beavis and Butt-head juggernaut and the network’s successful forays into other genres, like the pop-culture game show Remote Control and the reality series The Real World. When MTV decided to jump into the late-night wars (okay, 10 p.m.) and develop its first talk show, the network cannibalized from its inventive but lower-rated series You Wrote It, You Watch It to find its host: a 31-year-old comedian named Jon Stewart. A star was born, at least among the MTV crowd: The Jon Stewart Show quickly became the network’s second-biggest hit (after Beavis and Butt-head) and provided its floppy-haired host with a showcase for the personable brand of comedy he would later...

We've known for a while just what an online superstar actor and activist George Takei is. At once hilarious and thought-provoking, there's so much to love about the "Star Trek" legend's online persona.
Takei this week gave us yet another reason to adore his web-savvy brilliance when he posted on Amazon a wonderfully silly review for an Air Swimmer Remote Control Inflatable Flying Shark.

There are good and decent and honest people in the world. Even more shocking, there are good and decent and honest people in the world of "Catfish: The TV Show!" Jesse had been in an online relationship with a guy named Brian for about three years. Despite the fact that he refused to video chat with her -- and the one time they were going to meet, Brian said he got in trouble with the police -- Jesse was still planning to marry him and move in with him.
Of course, all of this threw up some major red flags, so the "Catfish" team came in to investigate. It turns out, Brian's story checked out. He was who he claimed to be, and he did get arrested for having a sawed-off rifle. The gun is classified as a "weapon of mass destruction" in North Carolina. Luckily for Brian, he was never charged with a crime.

Two new replica sonic screwdriver remote controls are heading to shops this October...
You might not be surprised to hear this, but we're rather fond of a good sonic screwdriver. In our arsenal of weaponry from films and TV, you'll find, er, 'more than one' at our disposal.
It looks like we're going to have to fork out for another one as well, as The Wand Company has announced that it's releasing a pair of new Sonic Screwdriver Remote Controls. The first is modelled on David Tennant's sonic screwdriver that he used in the show, to the point where they had to borrow the actual prop from Tennant himself. It was then scanned in using some posh technology that we don't fully understand, and it's been fashioned into a remote control. Blimey.

Are you a good witch, or a bad witch? Or, more accurately, do you prefer a good witch or a bad witch? That's the question we're asking today on this very special Ladies of "Oz the Great and Powerful" edition of NextMovie's Eff, Marry, Kill.
It would appear that beauty and magic have a direct correlation because Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams, all certified Gorgeous Ladies, portray the three witches of Oz in the new flick, due in theaters March 8. Lovely though they all may be, there can only be one good witch — and only one you choose to bring home to Mom in a game of Eff, Marry, Kill, good witch or not so good.
So who will it be? Do you marry the lady who comes and goes by bubble? Have a soft spot for the witch in red? Are you enchanted by Oz's third witch?...

The continued, escalating battle of Collector's Edition superiority continues, this time with Ubisoft offering a remote-controlled plane replica of the Paladin, a key location in "Splinter Cell: Blacklist." While a pair of night vision goggles would have been more appropriate (although it's been done before, I know), it's still a pretty cool bonus.
After the jump, find out what real life and digital goodies Ubisoft has in store for Sam Fisher's latest adventure.
You can find the full contents of the Collector's Edition below:
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist video game. Remote Control C-147B Paladin Aircraft: Command the air with a custom 3-channel, dual-engine aircraft modeled after the in-game Paladin mobile headquarters. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Echoes comic book: Limited 88-page graphic novel by Eisner-nominated comic book writer Nathan Edmondson and illustrator Marc Laming. Limited edition Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist poster. Exclusive Billionaire’s Yacht co-op map.

The evil geniuses of Marvel Studios are the masters of building suspense among hardcore fans, often by creating trailers that show a lot of imagery that is, 1) very exciting, and 2) entirely out of context. As we watch, we’re in a constant state of “What exactly is going on here?”
The new trailer for Iron Man 3 is full of such headscratchers, which only help build tension and anticipation for the May 3 opening.
Like I said — evil geniuses.
Remote Control Armor?

Derren Brown: The Experiments DVD review.
Opinions seem to be divided when it comes to Derren Brown, or illusionists in general really. There are some who are fascinated by them, captivated by their intricacy so much that it feels magical; then there are the others who know it’s fake, finding it more boring and infuriating than anything else.
Whereas opinions differ, Derren Brown usually comes in between both things. He never claims to be a magician, only a hypnotist, mathematician, mentalist, painter and writer. Derren Brown denounces all paranormal and psychic ideas, refusing all accusations and claims that he has these supposed abilities. Instead, he reads people so well that it is almost supernatural by influencing their body language then deciphering it to be seemingly reading their mind.
He does say he uses magic but not in the cloak and wizard’s hat sense but through misdirection and psychology...

Blu-ray Review
Snow White and the Huntsman
Directed by: Rupert Sanders
Cast: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron
Running Time: 2 hrs 8 mins (Extended Edition: 2 hrs 12 mins)
Rating: PG-13
Due Out: September 11, 2012
Plot: The evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) sends a huntsman (Hemsworth) into the Dark Forest to recapture the escaped Snow White (Stewart). Ravenna’s plan goes awry when the huntsman ends up protecting her instead.
Who’S It For? There is plenty of gorgeous imagery on display, and Charlize Theron is a lot of fun, but anyone hoping for more will likely be disappointed.
Movie:
This year’s two Snow White films are a great example of why trailers cannot always be trusted. I was embarrassed by the Mirror Mirror marketing, yet I ended up being won over by its whimsical charm. On the other hand, I was completely enamored by the gorgeous visuals found in the trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman.

Universal Studios have announced Oliver Stone’s latest ultra-violent crime drama Savages for Blu-Ray, starring Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, Benicio Del Toro and John Travolta.
Director Oliver Stone has had a hit-or-miss career. For every Natural Born Killers or Wall Street, he also makes World Trade Center or Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
Savages is his attempt to rekindle the flames from his Natural Born Killer days and in his attempt he has managed to come off as a cheap Tony Scott knockoff. There’s lots of grisly violence and quick jump-cuts, but no reason for doing so. His take on the drug war isn’t a horrible one, but far from being cinematic greatness that we used to expect from a filmmaker of Stone’s caliber.
Our very own Kristal Cooper summed it up well in her review of the film:
A preposterously overblown take on the drug trade,...

A film that Michael & I both enjoyed watching in the theater earlier this year was Oliver Stone’s Savages. Even if we thought that some of the film echoed some of the filmmaking style of the late Tony Scott, Savages is anchored by some great performances and its persistence to not shy away from some of the extreme violence. Universal is looking to release an Unrated version of the film which makes me wonder what the hell was cut out. Read below for the press release.
