  • It is a little known fact that the story of the film Hollywood Film Avatar - with its theme of a mole being sent in to influence a community to vacate is a remake of Malayalam cult classic Vietnam colony released two decades before it.

Vietnam colony became such a huge hit that it was also remade into Tamil with the same name starring Prabhu.

Mohanlal had been starring in similar such films at this phase including Kireedam, Aryan, Abhimanyu etc. Even the climax of this film immediately reminds one of Kireedam.

Ably supported by the gorgeous Kanaka and reliable funny-man Innocent, built on the foundation of excellent writing-direction by Siddique -Lal, the film had all the elements to be successful.

Overall though, it's a formula film if one sets aside the action and emotional drama, one of rich exploiting the poor and of a common man being able to beat up professional goons.

There's nothing much to thus write about in the plot itself which is why you see no reviews before this on IMDB.

Watch it though, it's a super hit entertainer from the 90's.
