After three excellent seasons ( and a special ) of his B.B.C. show 'Cool It', the talented impressionist Phil Cool jumped ship to I.T.V. A risky strategy when one considers the fates of Mike Yarwood and Morecambe and Wise. He made two series, of which 'Cool Head' was the first. It is essentially a programme of two halves; the successful one has a red-shirted Phil addressing an audience and is very much in the mold of 'Cool It', the not-so successful one features sketches purporting to be set inside Phil's mind, with him playing 'Evil' ( who sounds terribly like the American actor Jack Palance ) and the sublime ( and completely wasted ) Dillie Keane as 'Good', both of whom are constantly at loggerheads. There are some other sketches that feature Phil made up as the likes of Prince, Prince Charles, Mick Jagger, Sean Connery, and David Frost. As well as Keane, the show also features Steven O'Donnell ( 'Spudgun' from the B.B.C.'s 'Bottom' sitcom ). A mixed bag then, and worth watching despite its flaws. It is available on D.V.D. ( along with the follow-up show 'Phil Cool' ), but what a great pity that, at the present time, a D.V.D. release of 'Cool it' is nowhere on the horizon.
