Before WWE 2K16’s release, there was a lot of excitement surrounding the idea of playing through some of the biggest moments from Steve Austin’s career. Facing off against The Rock at WrestleMania, even playing his King Of The Ring 1996 victory against Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts felt enjoyable and turned out well. That’s a fantastic idea, but some other parts of WWE 2K16 feel a little more barren. Aside from the Austin mode, there’s little enjoyment to be gleaned from modes such as WWE Universe or even the Career Mode.
WWE video games have become annual purchases for many, irrespective of overall quality. It’s almost like a yearly pilgrimage, as older players bemoan the lack of fun that existed in previous titles, and younger ones wonder why their elders are constantly whining. 2K Games have tried to embrace the idea that wrestling video games should be heavy on simulation,...

I think it would be fair to say that most wrestling fans were disappointed with WWE 2K15. The series’ first outing on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was seen as a significant step-down from the previous year’s release. Several features were scrapped, and the few added ones couldn’t make up for that fact. Plus, there were several technical issues. Since this is a yearly release now, Yuke’s and 2K Games are back once more, this time with WWE 2K16. With another year of current-gen development in its favor, could the franchise ascend to championship levels? Or is it just another jobber?
While it may never please gamers who are continually looking to relive WWF No Mercy, the gameplay found in WWE 2K16 represents the high point of the franchise thus far. It may not actually look anything like the action seen on screen, but the grappling and striking...

Chicago – Wrestling games have always been a curious genre. They’ve always treated matches as if they’re actual athletic competitions, where one guy is attempting to beat the other guy within an inch of his life and pin him or make him submit. This is problematic since we all know that a real pro-wrestling match is more akin to a heavily muscled dance number than an actual fight (though they both get colorful outfits) and the excitement of a match - innovative moves, heightened drama, near falls - are all but absent in the “wrestling is real” gameplay model because simply put, the better you are, the shorter and less fun your matches will be, especially against the historically brain-dead AI you find in wrestling games.
Video Game Rating: 3.5/5.0
However, when played against a human friend “in the know”, as you’d say, the WWE games become a transformative experience.

What do you get when you cross an Olympic champion, a Rhino, and a Shark Boy? Tna iMPACT: Cross The Line. June 29th brings hope that someone will finally make a good handheld wrestling game.
Wrestling games have long been one of my favorite genres. From WCW vs. nWo: World Tour to WWF No Mercy to the WWE Smackdown vs. Raw series, even to the Def Jam games, the one thing that has been lacking in wrestling has been a great portable game.
The recent attempts by WWE to bring wrestling have left fans waiting. The only handheld wrestling game I remember being even half decent was Fire Pro Wrestling on GameBoy Advance. However, unlike Fire Pro Wrestling, Tna iMPACT: Cross The Line won’t have a super in depth create-a-wrestler, which was one of Fire Pro’s big draws.
Since Hulk Hogan is the main partner in Tna wrestling,...
