The wanted criminal Richard Bruno Riddick (Vin Diesel) arrives on a planet called Helion Prime and finds himself up against an invading empire called the Necromongers, an army that plans to convert or kill all humans in the universe.
When Riddick meets Toombs face to face, he asks what the bounty on his head is priced at. Toombs first lies, and says a million, but is coaxed into telling the truth of 1.5 million. Five years prior, the price displayed on Riddick's rap sheet in "Dark Fury" was roughly 1.1 million. So, within five years, the bounty was raised about four hundred thousand.
They are an army unlike any other... crusading across the stars toward a place called UnderVerse, their promised land - a constellation of dark new worlds. Necromongers, they're called. And if they cannot convert you, they will kill you. Leading ...
When the ship carrying Riddick is on approach to Crematoria, they're all just fine with the sunlight entering the windows. But once they reach the surface, suddenly the sunlight bothers them. The sun would have felt much, much hotter before they entered the atmosphere, it wouldn't wait until they reached the ground to start burning them.
The closing credits are displayed over extreme close-ups of elaborate Necromonger sculpture. Eventually the sculpture is revealed to be a statue of Riddick sitting in the Lord Marshall's throne.
The theatrical release was edited to achieve an MPAA Rating of "PG-13" instead of "R". The Unrated Director's Cut on DVD restores the violent scenes and adds more character development (including the addition of a character that was not seen in the theatrical release).
