Big budgets in porn in the 1990s yielded many glamorous art porn features, notably the still popular work of Andrew Blake. Nic Andrews is a major director of the period who did a fine job in "Whispers", displaying real talent that today's purveyors of all-sex porn lack.

With plenty of black & white sequences, including the wraparound footage of star Jewel DeNyle in her limousine as voice-over narration tells of her world of high-class prostitution, the show is glamorous and sensual, featuring an amazing cast of femmes. It consists of pantomime sex performances, but benefits from retaining the sounds of sex (moans of ecstasy) on the soundtrack.

Superstars of the future Rayveness, Sydnee Steele and Devinn Lane are quite impressive in this format, even though their considerable acting ability is left at the door. Like Blake's dreamy videos, it's all about style, and in this case paints a picture of sex work that is quite fake but nonetheless alluring.

It's sad that this type of Adult entertainment has been replaced a decade or two later by the artless work of directors like Mason, Jules Jordan and Greg Lansky -crude gonzo sex gussied up by cheap glamour of a mansion setting and beautiful models.
