  • David DeLuise and Missi Pyle are great together in this cheeky film that thumbs its nose at political correctness in the evolving world of the 21st century. Saw it at its sold out Archlight Premiere. It is no wonder that it is winning so many awards!
  • ...but can I have some?

I scored a screener from a friend, and watched it one night when I had nothing better to do. I guess the movie's not actually awful, but it's about as funny as a sprained ankle. It starts out promisingly enough, with some easy (but still funny) sex jokes, but quickly loses its spirit and just gets dumb.

Deluise is likable enough, and tries his best to work the hammy script, but the troll who played his friend just drags the movie down. (I see here he's a writer/producer on the film, so I guess that explains the casting.) The actress who plays Heather (recognized her from Galaxy Quest) is sexy and intriguing, but isn't given much of a character to develop. Which, I suppose, is typical of the way this movie sees women. The casting of the network suits was decent though, and I appreciated the attempts to mix up the usual romantic comedy standards with effects and animation, but the movie just falls too flat.

I have to wonder, having seen this with my own eyes: Were the other people reviewing this movie just really lacking in critical skills, or do they have some sort of vested interest in stirring up interest in this movie?

Either way, I give this a thumbs down. 1 and a half stars out of five. I recommend the Tao of Steve for people looking for a funny indie comedy about relationships.

    Warning: Spoilers
David Deluise stars as (Ted Davis) a businessman who is the man when it comes to the dating game, conquerer of many women and many uses of extremely cheesy pick up lines he looses his mojo.

Ted finds himself wanting to settle down but no one will take him. In search of a new start he falls for his next door neighbour who is a phone sex girl.

Bachelorman didn't appeal to me I am not like that with women and I can rarely find humour in guys that are like that, I don't believe thats the way women should be treated.

If this was suppose to be a comedy it wasn't very well done.

This is one of those random movies that you have never heard of but you decide to give it a whirl and you regret every freaking minute of it. What truly blows my mind is the first review that raved about how amazing this film was and scored it a perfect ten. My reviewing process is a little more intensive than that and this one goes into my worst films category hands down. The entire plot it stupid, the acting borders on disgustingly horrible, and the jokes are drop dead boring. Its just the kind of comedy that when a joke or gag happens instead of laughter it exudes a groan of disgust. The film might have worked a little better if you could actually believe the lead character as a womanizer but the guy is a doofus right from the moment the movie starts. I think the film makers were trying to incorporate some style to the film but it falls face first but as with any comedy there were likely some moments that I chuckled at despite myself but I promise I felt guilty about it.

David DeLuise has been in comedic acting, mostly Television for a very long time. This entry into being a lead actor in a film for adults doesn't do anything for his career. Yes he is cocky and has some personality for his character but he just looks like an absolute joke and you can't buy his womanizing status. He should stick to light fluffy kid's comedy. Missi Pyle has also been around a long time and I've always though of her as kind of obnoxious and homely and yet here she is trying to be a sexy, girl of the womanizers dreams and it just isn't believable. Whoever cast these two made a terrible mistake given the tone of the film and what they were trying to accomplish. Honestly there is no reason to discuss the rest of the cast because whether or not they could potentially give good performances matters little to nothing because of how terrible the entire film truly is and the casting of the lead characters is ridiculous. Pyle and DeLuise have virtually no chemistry and just look silly together.

Director John Putch is kind of in the same vote as both Pyle and DeLuise, he has been around a long time both as a director (27 years) and as an actor since early Disney films in 1973. But in going through some of his directorial films I see a pattern. The disgustingly horrible TV remake of The Poseidon Adventure, a host of sub par TV series (and yes I'm including Scrubs in that since I've always found that show to be horribly awful.) I'm beginning to think that Putch is a lost cause and has a radar for terrible comedy. Now he's decided to sink his teeth into the recent long line of straight to video American Pie films...that should be awesome!! (sarcasm intended) While I do slap Bachelorman with a solid 3 and nothing lower I think it's just because I did manage to sit through it and it wasn't completely painful but I do it all for you...the viewer...stay clear of this stinker, there is nothing redeemable about it. 3/10
  • I first saw the beginning of this movie for 2 weeks ago. But it didnt attract me a bit. Today i gave it another chance. After i watched the whole movie i can only say that i was a good choice because the movie was really good. Good actors.. nice clean story and it felt very personal.

My vote 7 out of 10.
  • Ted (David DeLuise) is a television executive who finds and promotes offbeat programs. Away from his job, he is such a confirmed "unmarried" gentleman that he has developed a super-hero type persona among his circle of friends. That is, he is "Bachelor Man", one who conquers any available woman with his pick-up lines, charm, good looks, and psychological assessments. As of late, nevertheless, the beautiful woman who resides in the apartment next door, Heather (Missy Pyle) has been putting a crimp in his style. It seems she has as many romantic encounters as he does and her exclamations of ecstasy reverberate through the walls, chasing Ted's dates away, due to lack of privacy. But, no matter what Ted does, Heather doesn't seem to give him the time of day. Naturally, Ted sees this as the ultimate challenge and he becomes obsessed with taking Heather out on a date, so much so that even his work begins to suffer. Lo and behold, Ted starts to make some progress in his pursuit and a few secrets come to light as well. First, Heather may not be getting all of the "action" it seems she is and, more importantly, she may have been recently jilted, accounting for her cold attitude toward love. Then, too, Ted is surprised to actually find himself "falling" for her beauty and personality. Are his bachelor man days about to end? This is quite a funny film but very adult in nature, making it unsuitable for the under 18 crowd. The cast is wonderful, with DeLuise a total delight. Why hasn't he surfaced in other films and television shows? He is one good looking and comical performer. Pyle, too, is great as the woman with brains and beauty and the lesser cast members, especially the couple playing Ted's parents, are also very entertaining. Although the production was probably one with a lesser budget, the costumes, sets and camera work are quite acceptable while the direction is lively and the script is extremely inventive and humorous. As such, betcha Bachelor Man will make you laugh. Why not give it whirl next time you visit the usual DVD providers?

I saw this at the Schweitzer Lakedance Film Festival in Sandpoint in 2006 and it was very funny. The whole crowd (it was on a Friday Night) laughed and enjoyed it. The Bachelorman is a light crazy sometimes-hip sex comedy that is often over-the-top and sometimes predictable... but so what? Its fun to watch, and thats all that counts.

As for someone who could possibly give this film, or ANY film a one star out of ten? I mean take a step back for a second. I've seen some TERRIBLE films, but I've never seen a 1 star film. Generally, the worse it gets the more you can appreciate the camp value.

I just heard this got picked up for distribution and I'm really happy. People who want some simple fun adult comedy should pick this up!
  • Great movie! Extremely entertaining! The use of the "Bachelor Dating Tips" is hysterical and very effective. This is THE movie to see for anyone who has been a bachelor, yet this is not a "guy" movie. Ironically, this is a great date movie which points out the flaws and devices used in modern dating technique (but it is also really entertaining!) The humor lies in the truthful observations of "Ted", played by David DeLuise. Overall a really fun movie!
  • I just saw this movie at a theater in Chicago with a small but energetic group of 20-somethings. I thought, "Hey, some mindless entertainment for an hour or so", and I must say, I was delightfully surprised at how genuinely funny this movie turned out to be. There are a few moments that you find yourself doing that little groan-then-snicker( I won't give away any punchlines) , and you are embarrassed that you let yourself belly laugh at few envelope-pushing jokes, but that's what makes little sleepers like this so fun to discover. Great cast (David Deluise should have his own series), fun script, and I look forward to seeing it again when it hits cable.
  • Hilarious movie. Full of great gags and big laughs. David Deluise is really hysterical as the 'ever on the prowl' Bachelor guy who meets his match when the sexy Missi Pyle moves in next door. She was that funny scene stealing alien in Galaxy Quest that got married to the Tony Shaloub character. The movie is loaded with Bachelor Tips and also includes some great 3-D Toy Story-type animation. Outrageous at times but never out of control. There's even a 'boogie nights' gag toward the end of the film! And there are a ton of hot chicks in it too! Great friggin time!. But if you are are stuck up and not comfortable with your sexuality, you won't like it.
  • Smart, funny, clever film. Heir to the Ross Hunter comedies (Pillow Talk, etc.) of the 60's that play off of the human condition and romance. David DeLuise is that rare combination of very, very funny and very, very sexy. He's got the goods and should be a star. Missy Pyle is great and a perfect foil for him. It is nice to see her with more to do than she had in "Bringing Down the House" (which she stole) and it is clear she could do just about anything else as well. Rodney Lee Conover will probably be inundated with offers to be everyone from Mel Gibson to Adam Sandler's "best friend" after this, but could easily carry his own pic as well. And he is a co-writer, too. Great direction from John Putch. Lotta' talent here. Lotta' fun, too.
  • I have seen this movie and I thought it was very funny. The entire cast is great, including Rodney Conover. David Deluise is totally cute and sexy and don't know why he's not a superstar yet. Saw him on CSI a few times and he is really coming into his own. Missi Pile will always be great, too. I recognized a lot of the cast from other projects and was very impressed with the amount of talent in this indy film. The director is very well-known, too, so the whole line-up was very good for what was probably a lower-budget attempt by these people to get around the Hollywood politics and I think they did very well. I would love to see this movie made into a TV series with exactly the same cast. I think David DeLuise could carry off a weekly venture into the world of Ted Davis very nicely.
  • At first I thought this was going to be a romantic comedy, or maybe a sexy kind of chasing around film.

Instead, there were moms with vibrators, old ladies in diapers being stripped down, a moose that shits aphrodisiac candy, a baby that tries to crawl INTO it's mom, tons of blow jobs, a giant penis and tons of guys and girls getting laid.

    It's about time.

I laughed for 90 minutes. David DeLuise is the perfect BachelorMan. There is no downtime in this movie, except for the three or four scenes where he comes up from under the covers to take a breath.

    Viva BachelorMan
  • I have to start by saying this looks like a soft porn film: the photography, the actors' faces, the actors' playing. The actresses are all ugly and old. The film is cheap and clumsy and it has low production values. But... This impression fades out by minute 3, when you have already laughed more than you laughed in the entire Adam Sandler filmography. If you ignore the fact that it looks like a film school license movie, you realize it's one of the funniest movies in years. More gags and jokes per minute than a Mel Brooks film. All in all, excellent writing and humor. And I've just found out here, on the IMDb, the main actor is Dom DeLuise's son. Well, it's hard to be as funny as Dom DeLuise, especially when you look like you only act in Richard Grieco movies... still eventually you get to like this guy and admit he's funny as hell.
  • I recently watched Bachelor Man at the Dances With Film, Film Festival July 2003. I laughed from beginning to end. From the directing to editing, animation to original music, it was great. Even my wife liked it.

I was happy to hear that it won the audience award for the festival. I hope this gets to theatrical distribution so everyone can enjoy a good romantic comedy.
  • BachelorMan is a must see film! Extremely well written with laughs from the first five minutes of the movie all the way through to the end.

David Deluise is absolutely fabulous as the oh so charming and invincible "BachelorMan". He easily handles the comedy of the film, and just as easily sinks his talents into the touching and gentle moments that show his amazing versatility as an actor. Ladies, you can't help but fall in love with him!

His "BachelorWoman" challenger, Missy Pyle, is just as charming, and talented as her counterpart, and together, they create an invincible duo. Missy captures the audience with strength, humor and delightful warmth. And of course the entire cast adds the finishing touch to create a delightful witty comedy! This is definitely a date movie of the highest caliber!

Director, John Putch, is a brilliant director. He is extremely detailed, and precise with his films, from the care he takes in nurturing his actors, to the camera angles, to the editing, the animation and the music, he make the whole film come together superbly. The audience, myself included, laughed from the first scene, straight through to the end, until my sides hurt. There hasn't been a good tummy tickler like this, out there for a long time, and it was refreshing to laugh so hard! And if that's not enough, just when ya think it's over....ya laugh while the credits roll as well! If you are wondering who to take to BachelorMan, I'd say anyone and everyone. The audience at this particular screening ranged from late teens to seniors and everyone there had huge smiles on their faces as they left the theater. Hollywood needs more charming, uplifting comedies like this one! Run don't walk to the nearest theater and catch "BachelorMan." This definitely gets "TWO THUMBS UP" and then some!
  • I saw this at a screening in Los Angeles and never stopped laughing. It's the only movie to show what us guys are really thinking. Watch for "Bachelor Vision" when he passes women at work. Classic! I do that! There are even "Bachelor Tips" to help you score with chicks along the way. From the opening birth scene to the end reveal, this movie never stopped surprising me. You'll never hear the name "Lucky" again without laughing!

David Deluise is really funny as "Ted," and Missi Pyle outwits him at every turn as Bachelorette Woman! There are a LOT of hot women that he pursues. In particular, Sally in the bar scene and a girl whose clothes melt into her bra and panties in Ted's "Bachelor Vision." (Close your eyes when the old lady follows her, though.)

This should teach people making bad movies like "Just Married" to stay single and be funny.

    Highly recommended.

i like comedies. i like all types of comedies that are funny. i like comedies from 'w.c. fields in 'the dentist' (1920's) to 'kung pow' (2000's). that's 80 years of comedies that i like, give or take a few.

mclintock, catch 22, sabrina (both), topper, my man godfrey, freebie and the bean, hey, even planet 9 from outer space, i enjoy a good laugh.

but here i quote robert wuhl in 'good morning, vietnam', "what is the appeal of joey bishop? i mean, i know funny, and this guy is not funny!"

this movie is like the old 'joey bishop show'. it might be interesting, even entertaining, but it is not funny.

the people involved with the making of this movie tried to present it as a funny movie, and it's not very funny. it's like they were trying to present us with up-dated versions of lenny bruce (it's sh**, sh**, sh**), and richard pryor (hey, mother f**** n****, roflol that he said mother f***** n*****, right? ain't that a hoot???)

how this movie works at all is that the people involved with the making of it have some insights into the human condition, and they have some humorous ways of presenting these insights at times. the movie rings true on some of these levels, sometimes. but it should have been made as a drama, a musical without music, a documentary, an animated featurette, anything but a comedy, because it's just not funny.

the makers of this movie are not clueless, except when it comes to being funny.

to paraphrase mr. wuhl, 'i know funny, and these people are not it'. i just watched this movie. i had one really great spontaneous laugh from it. this is good, comedy is good. one laugh per movie is a little low on the laugh-o-meter scale.

i hope that everybody enjoys every movie that they see. it's just that this ain't likely to be one of them. it's not very good.

`Bachelorman' is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. In most movies you're happy if you get three or four big laughs, but `Bachelorman' delivers big laughs all the way through. David DeLuise steals the show as the horny bachelor with a real sex life that is even better than his fantasy life (which they show using hilarious computer animation). Then when he falls in love with his neighbor played by Missi Pyle he feels like he loses his superpowers, and his equally horny friends have to help him get them back. Funny, funny, funny.
  • To anyone who has seen it, can you not laugh when you think about the old woman standing in front DeLuise in her Adult underwear? Even days after seeing this movie, I still find myself laughing when I think about some of the scenes. This movie is funny!Really! I do agree that this movie really didn't need the troll looking friend, but it made it more realistic. I know I've had some pretty scary looking friends in my life!! If you have not, then you'll be unable to understand the humor in the role. I would see this movie again, I have recommended it to friends, and I recommend it to you.

P.S. Where can I buy a "Poop Moose"? Maybe someone involved in this movie could send me one.... PLEASE!!!! :-D
