Several spells make their only appearance in the game, and are not seen in the films. These include: Flipendo, Skurge, and Avifors among others.
This game was re-released for the PS2 in 2003, after the next title in the series (Chamber) had already got a PS2 release. This is because when the game for the PS1 proved a massive success (as had the film), it was decided that rather than do a straight forward port to the next console, a whole new game would be created from scratch, coinciding with releases on other then new consoles, Xbox and Gamecube. In the meantime the second film in the series was released, which made it necessary to finish its accompanying game first.
There are a total of 5 different versions of this game, each of them are completely original & different from one another. There's the Game Boy Color version, the Game Boy Advance version, the PlayStation 1 version, PC/Mac version & finally the XBOX Original/PlayStation 2/ GameCube version.
Before Warner Interactive and Electronic Arts (EA) began publishing Harry Potter games across all major gaming platforms, Nintendo of America sought the exclusive development and publishing rights to the Harry Potter series back in 1999 starting with a planned entry for the Nintendo 64. While some tech demos were built none are known to have survived but some remaining concept art remains.
Both the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance versions of the game were made by a team of roughly 8 people who worked on both versions simultaneously and only had 6 months to do so. The credits feature more people since the team who worked on the PC version were in neighboring cubicles and helped out at times.
