Before The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Six Feet Under, The Wire, or any of the other popular HBO shows, there was Oz. The one-hour drama chronicled the lives of the staff and inmates at the Oswald State Correctional Facility, a maximum security penitentiary home to the most violent offenders in the state. It’s been over twenty years since the series concluded, but creator Tom Fontana is back with an Oz short film starring Lee Tergesen as Tobias Beecher and Dean Winters as Ryan O’Reily.
Titled Zo, the short film actually premiered at the Atx Festival in 2021, but few people were able to see it. Thankfully, Zo will premiere on YouTube on May 1st, giving fans around the world the chance to finally see it. According to Kirk Acevado, who starred in Oz as Miguel Alvarez, it could even lead to a sequel series if the short film gets enough buzz.

Michael B. Jordan is a very versatile actor, whose career truly took off after he donned boxing gloves for the Creed franchise. The actor has starred in a number of films since the first installment of the series came out in 2015. He even left a mark in the MCU as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther.
Jordan has become a favorite among fans who enjoy action films. While he is a very charming person in real life, his feud with boxer Ryan Garcia has stood out in the last few years. After a series of disparaging attacks on the actor, Garcia recently confessed that Jordan has stopped talking to him.

The release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in worldwide theaters may have reminded fans of the late Lance Reddick. Although the actor did not have a huge part in the franchise, director Adam Wingard hoped to give him a more significant role and even work with him in future installments.

The famed star passed away unexpectedly in 2023, leaving his fans devastated as they won’t see him any longer in the MonsterVerse. What’s even more upsetting is the fact that he had many omitted scenes in the previous film.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is now in theaters, and while the movie offers silly but fun Saturday morning cartoon vibes (according to Witney Seibold's review for /Film), one former MonsterVerse cast member's absence will be felt. Talented actor Lance Reddick passed away unexpectedly in 2023, and though he didn't seem to have a planned return to the franchise in the works at the time of his death, he appeared in 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong."
The MonsterVerse may not have had big plans for the future of Guillerman, the Monarch Director whom Reddick played in Legendary's first Godzilla-Kong showdown, but director Adam Wingard did initially intend for Reddick to have a larger part of that film. "Originally, Lance's part was a little bit bigger as he plays the Monarch director, he's running the organization," Wingard told GamesRadar+ around the time that "Godzilla vs. Kong" was released in theaters (per Syfy). Thanks to the blockbuster adaptation of Game of Thrones followed by the prequel House of the Dragon, prolific author George R.R. Martin attained cult status in Hollywood. The writer who was also involved in the production of the show, transported global audiences to his fascinating fantasy world of medieval feuds and politics that was aptly brought to life by showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss.

Now, fans of the series have a treat in store as Martin’s The Hedge Knight will be made into a series. The Game Of Thrones spin-off has cast former rugby player Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall. While the athlete’s towering personality is still not a match for the extreme height the character requires, Martin assured fans that he will be made to look exactly like how he was envisioned.

Mad Men might have wrapped up in 2015, but it’s still considered one of the greatest shows because it has survived the test of time so well! Right from its debut in 2007, it was a hit among critics and audiences alike. Since then, it’s gone on to win 79 awards, including 16 Primetime Emmys and 5 Golden Globes! While other shows at the time focused more on reworking existing TV genres — the cop drama (The Wire), the mob movie (The Sopranos) — Mad Men kind of created its own subgenre: a period antihero/workplace drama about the cultural history

The Oscar winner was a trailblazer who was happy to share the spotlight – and part of a disappearing class of Black acting nobility
Preparation went out the window when Louis Gossett Jr became the third Black person to win an Oscar, in 1983, for his supporting role in An Officer and a Gentleman. He had planned to accept the award with his seven-year-old son, Satie – but the boy got stage fright at the last minute and stayed rooted to his seat. The speech Gossett had in mind? “It’s no use,” he told the capacity crowd at LA’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. “It’s all gone.” So he kept things short and sweet, thanking his family before pivoting to his fellow nominees – a tough crowd that included James Mason and John Lithgow. “All you other four guys,” Gossett said, raising his statuette, “this is ours.”
That was Gossett in essence: magnanimous,...

The Wire producer and longtime Baltimore chronicler David Simon ripped into conspiracists spreading unfounded theories that today’s tragic and deadly collapse of the city’s Francis Scott Key Bridge could be a terrorist attack.
Simon, a reporter for the Baltimore Sun before creating Homicide: Life On The Street, reserved a special ire for Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling the rumor-mongering congresswoman a “complete submoronic pratfall of a human being.”
“Are you intentional or just an accident?,” Simon asked Greene in a post on X/Twitter after the Republican asked about the cargo ship’s crash into the bridge, “Is this an intentional attack or an accident?”
Earlier today, William DelBagno, the FBI Special Agent in Charge, said there are no indications of terrorism. But that didn’t stop the conspiracy-minded from taking to social media – or Simon from taking them on.

Shirley is a biographical movie about the life of Shirley Chisholm movie written and directed by John Ridley starring Regina King.
A schoolteacher, elected to Congress. It was the early 70s, and Shirley Chisholm was also the first African American woman to run for the Presidency of the United States. A woman who ran without any backing, representing the members of the working class, the minorities.
A movie filled with hope, faith, and feminism.
Indeed, more than a racial candidacy, Shirley Chisholm based her campaign on gender politics and minorities, paving the way for a hopeful future.
A film about faith, but above all about clear-cut American politics.
About the movie
Faith, hope, and a lot of political film of good ideas, faith, hope, and political consciousness. A movie with its good ideas well defined (we don’t deny them at any moment) and does everything possible to assert its thesis.

Actor Idris Elba got his breakthrough role by starring in the hit television series The Wire. But Elba was surrounded by a cast of other talented performers, with one in particular making him nervous.
Idris Elba found this actor incredible to work with Idris Elba | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Although Elba looked back at his time on The Wire fondly, he confided that he never revisited the show. This was partially due to the fact that, similar to many actors, Elba wasn’t keen on watching his own performances.
“In truth, to this day, I’ve never really watched The Wire,” Elba once told Sports Illustrated. “I haven’t seen it–I’m not very good at watching myself. But I’m always really touched when people talk about the performance and, essentially, the whole show.”
However, he wouldn’t have minded rewatching The Wire for the sake of one actor’s performance.

The 75th Primetime Emmys has officially come and gone, and unfortunately for Better Call Saul, the final season of the critically and commercially reviewed series walked out empty-handed. What’s even worse is that the prequel to Breaking Bad has an unwanted record as Better Call Saul has 53 Primetime Emmy nominations and does not have a single win. Its predecessor, Breaking Bad, was an Emmy darling as it has 16 wins under its belt. The Emmys are no stranger to snubbing television content before – The Wire, The Leftovers, Peaky Blinders, and Mindhunters are some of the most notable examples.

A reimagining of Judy Blume’s influential — and controversial — 1975 novel Forever… for a new generation, the series adaptation tells the epic love story of two Black teens, Keisha Clark (Simone) and Justin Edwards (Cooper Jr.) exploring romance and their identities through the awkward journey of being each other’s firsts, set in Los Angeles, 2018.
Pittman plays Dawn, a college-educated, top executive in corporate finance with an easy elegance that belies her loving but paranoid form of parenting, Justin’s (Cooper Jr.) mother Dawn might be strict at times, but it’s always out of love. Actor Idris Elba got one of his breakthrough roles starring in the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire. But Elba was once under the impression that he’d last on the show a bit longer than he did.
How Idris Elba reacted to his character’s ending Idris Elba | Samir Hussein/WireImage
Initially, Elba owed a lot of his success to his character on The Wire. Back then, fans knew the actor as Stringer Bell, who had a mind for how business worked in the drug business. Stringer Bell seemed like a character who’d stick around for the long haul. But the character served his purpose pretty early on the show.
Elba didn’t get the news until he was handed the script for the episode. Speaking on What Now? with Trevor Noah, he even panicked a little bit.

The Dceu has faced its fair share of ups and downs lately. But one consistent point of praise has been the casting choices, particularly actors like Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Henry Cavill and Wonder Woman in the Dceu
Anyways, James Gunn is now all set to change the whole universe. While his reboot sounds like a fresh idea, there is also a bittersweet feeling because they’re shaking up the cast.
Gunn and Peter Safran seem to have something new in the works, and it makes sense why they’re opting for younger actors like David Corenswet (as they provide longevity and potential for more movies in the future).
After his casting as Clark Kent/Superman in June 2023, new cast names were soon revealed, including Nicholas Hoult as the classic villain Lex Luthor. Most recently, the actor for Perry White has also been announced.

Actor Idris Elba has always thrived in movies that have challenged him like Mandela or Beasts. But perhaps very few films tested him like his 2015 acclaimed Netflix hit Beasts of No Nation.

Elba did a feature that meant a lot to him with the 2015 movie Beasts of No Nation. The project saw Elba playing a military commander who adopts a young boy to be one of his child soldiers.
Right from the beginning, Elba confided that the movie was a personal project of his. His family was very familiar with the environment Beasts of No Nation took place in, so Elba almost felt obligated to do the film.
“This story is close to me because my parents come from Sierra Leone which is a country that was ravaged [by war] as you know,” Elba once told Nz Herald.

Disney is “set to be the big winner in the licensing renaissance” as Hollywood giants look to make revenue from their content beyond using it on their own streaming services, according to a new study.
“Disney trumps all the other major studios with its ownership of powerful licensable content, owning more than double that of its rivals,” research firm Ampere Analysis explained in a report published Monday. “After four years of major studios employing a walled-garden approach to the distribution of their TV content on streaming, licensing is steadily making a comeback.”
It added: “Studios were understandably reluctant to give up exclusivity for major franchises as they built their streaming services. But Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2023 deals to license recently released DC-adapted content to Amazon, Netflix and Tubi demonstrate that even strategies around exclusivity for core IP are now changing.”

This month sees the premiere of the second season of Will Trent, the ABC procedural drama based on the novels by Karin Slaughter. Ramón Rodríguez of The Wire fame plays Wilbur “Will” Trent, a special agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation whose immense skills of observation have made him one of the top crime solvers in Atlanta.
On a basic programming level, it's no surprise that a story of a semi-official detective with unconventional methods and a skewed view of the world became a ratings hit for ABC. It is a touch more surprising that Will Trent is also a critical hit, with an 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This brand of procedural is practically the bread and butter of American entertainment, and it seems that, in the waning age of the binge-watch and streaming overload, audiences and critics alike are hungry for something familiar.
