In the game, the UNSC are heavily based off the US military. So assuming this is true, Echo 419 is the incorrect way of identification for herself. She says "Pelican Echo Four-Ninetenn" when she should be saying Papa Echo Four One Niner. Same applies to the other Pelicans.
After the credits end, the Monitor can be seen zooming through space, having survived Halo's destruction.
If you beat the game on Legendary mode, there's an extended ending where after the Chief escapes in the ship, you see Sgt. Johnson and an Elite fighting each other a small distance away from the crashed Pillar of Autumn. The Sergeant and alien notice the ship's self destruction, knowing it's their last moment alive, they stop fighting and hug each other.
