The "Silicon Follies" pilot pushed the workplace drama genre into the info tech world of Silicon Valley. Based on the novel of the same name by writer Thomas Scoville, it portrays the lives and overlapping stories of Silicon Valley tech workers and moguls alike, as they strive for wages and world domination at the fictional corporation Tetramemory.
There are a number of charming and funny performances: Hart Bochner, as a Larry Ellison-style, over-the-top ego-maniacal CEO; Ethan Embry, as a harried programmer and project manager; Judy Greer, as a sweet, tech-writing career girl; Nicole Bilderback as Greer's character's company sidekick; Scott Bairstow as an Open Source free software geek a la Richard Stallman or Linus Torvalds.
It's too bad this never got picked up. It was very funny and tested very well among its demographic. But the end of the dot com boom doomed it -- suddenly, Silicon Valley stories weren't hot anymore, and a number of Silicon Valley dramas (Po Bronson's being another one of them) weren't advanced in Hollywood.
