As WW2 rages around the world, DCS Foyle fights his own war on the home-front as he investigates crimes on the south coast of England. Later series sees the retired detective working as an MI5 agent operating in the aftermath of the war.
Foyle's War is a British detective drama television series set during (and shortly after) the Second World War, created by Midsomer Murders (1997) screenwriter and author Anthony Horowitz.

Foyle is a Chief Superintendent. But the series is set during the Second World War and the rank was not introduced until 1949.
