  • For some reason (what? I don't know) I had been putting off seeing this film for a while, even though I am a big fan of the first one. Well, after watching it I don't feel so bad about waiting so long. This film is probably about 60% more boring and uninteresting than the first; Not to mention Franka Potente's screen time is only about 10 minutes total. The film is only around an hour and a half long but it felt like we were sitting there for 2 and a half hours. It was extremely slow paced and uneventful...the only things good about it were the idea of the storyline, the one decent tension building scene and the brother of the main actor. Other than that I can't really give anyone that is a fan of the first a big reason to rush out and buy/rent this thing. 5/10

"Anatomie 2" is a typical sequel which attempts to capitalize on the inertia of the popular first edition while not delivering the star power, creative juice, atmospherics or substance. This flick tells of a young medical prodigy (Metschurat) who falls in with a secret society of doctors who experiment with human bionics. Eminently predictable, less than horrific, with a meager human story, a mechanical and rote execution, and only a token appearance by rising star Potente, "Anatomie 2" pales next to it's predecessor. See "Anatomie" first and don't expect much out of the sequel. (C+)
  • From Dr. Frankenstein to Dr. Mengele, Germany has developed quite a reputation for…hmm.. how shall we put it?…"unconventional" men of science.

It's appropriate, then, that the German film "Anatomy 2" should be a brave-new-world sci-fi thriller that deals with the issues of biomedical ethics and just how far science should be allowed to go in trying to "improve" on Mother Nature.

Professor Muller-LaRousse is a world famous neurosurgeon who has been covertly conducting questionable experiments, implanting synthetic muscles into perfectly healthy young men and women (who also happen to be his devoted interns). Even though a disturbing number of these "guinea pigs" have died as a result of the procedures, LaRousse forges on, undeterred and undaunted, convinced - as any mad scientist worth his salt would be - that scientific advancement cannot be allowed to run aground on the shoals of a few trivial dead bodies. His plan is to create some sort of "master race" of invincible semi-humans. Jo Hauser is a promising young doctor who has come to Berlin to work and study under LaRousse, confident that he will be able to make a real difference not only in the lives of others but particularly in the life of his younger brother who has fallen victim to a degenerative neurological disorder. Filled with idealism, Jo allows himself to be pulled into LaRousse's group of sycophantic acolytes, perhaps to his everlasting regret.

The film is obviously intended as a modern day allegory of Nazism - what with its emphasis on group-think, unethical medical experimentation and talk about creating a "master race" - but the movie feels just too much like other - and better - dystopian sci-fi fantasies to be very effective. The intriguing medical ethics issues are eventually shunted aside for a series of protracted action scenes overflowing with typical mad scientist malarkey and man-on-the-run clichés.

That's a shame because the movie starts off with a better-than-average premise that promises a thoughtful re-examination of an age-old theme. However, "Anatomy 2" just winds up being silly where it most desperately needs to be serious.
  • I have read every comment posted in regards to Anatomie 2 and I am strapped to find a positive review of it. I do understand why people have not enjoyed this movie… but I don't know if those people really ‘got it'.

Anatomie 2 is not trying to live up to it's predecessor, instead it is attempting to evolve to a grander more intelligent film. The first movie came directly to us via the Slasher Genre… this movie is presented as a more sophisticated Thriller. This also means that there is a great deal less of the gore fx.

It is really good to see German films reaching a grand audience over the past few years. Once upon a time Wim Wnders was about the only name people knew from German films. Now we have so many great films from the Fatherland. Films like Run Lola Run, Anatomy and Goodbye Lenin! Hopefully none of them will be tainted by Hollywood remakes.

I did not like this film nearly as much as the first Anatomie, however it doesn't deserve half of the back lash it has received. It still remains a great and suspenseful piece of German cinema. A lot less shock and gore, but probably more suspense and panic than part 1..

I give this movie 8 out of 10.
  • ANATOMY 2 (Anatomie 2)

    Aspect ratio: 2.39:1

Sound formats: Dolby Digital / SDDS

An intern (Barnaby Metschurat) at one of Berlin's top hospitals is targeted by a charismatic doctor (Herbert Knaup) who's been conducting illegal experiments on some of his students, involving the replacement of various muscle groups with powerful synthetic substitutes. But the drugs needed to curb the various side effects are highly addictive, and lead to madness and murder...

This unnecessary sequel - only tenuously linked to the original ANATOMY (2000) - foregoes genuine horror for a slow build-up of tension as Metschurat is first seduced by his newfound friends and then rejects their dreams of a Nazi-style 'master race'. The Gothic setting of the first film is replaced by the faceless corridors of an ultra-modern hospital, and - aside from a horrific opening sequence - there are few memorable set-pieces to distinguish the movie from its run-of-the-mill US counterparts. Bombastic music score, fine performances, but the film is pretty unsatisfying as a whole. Franka Potente (THE BOURNE IDENTITY) makes a brief cameo appearance, purely for marquee value.

  • ANATOMY 2 is not a very good film. It obviously had a big budget, and the visuals are quite polished and slick. But the film itself is cartoonish and uninvolving. The screenplay lacks credibility, and the movie's use of science, as a whole, is laughable. Comic books make up better science than this movie.

The characters are also lacking. The only character of note is the Filipino nurse, who sadly goes missing for much of the movie. The lead is not very sympathetic, and most of the characters who play "doctors" (or interns) look more like a high school clique rather than people who have graduated from medical school.

Also, there is almost no action. I keep hearing "more action", but where is it? I see a lot of running and chasing (in a hospital, no less!) but nothing close to "action".

All in all, a bad film. I haven't seen the original, so perhaps it's better. I don't say this often, but perhaps ANATOMY 2 would have been better had it taken the Teen Slasher route, and gone for dumb mindless fun. In this case, the movie is just dumb and mindless, but not very fun at all.

  • Does this movie even has anything to do with the first one? Well, not really. Franka Potente is in it again but her role is no more than a small cameo. The movie itself follows different characters and a totally different story this time, which is actually a positive thing, until its last third came along.

I was actually very pleased with the movie at first and thought it was a much better movie than the first one. Thing that it did way better was that it wasn't trying to be an horror movie this time but instead went with a more thriller and even science-fiction type of approach. It suited the concept, story and atmosphere of the movie well and it made it way more pleasant to watch and follow, compared to the first movie.

So what went wrong? It actually was the final third of the movie that almost completely ruined the movie for me. The movie suddenly started to take such a ridicules approach with its story that I suddenly felt detached from anything to was happening in the story and from all of its characters. I won't say that it ruined the movie completely but it did ruin a lot for me.

Another thing that the movie did not handled very well was its main character. Problem I had with him was that in the first half of the movie or so he was still involved with the 'bad guys' and kept working with them, even though as a viewer you of course already know that these are the 'bad guys' and no good will come from their experiments. Thing is, he stayed involved- and friendly with them for far too long, so when he finally starts to turn his back on them and fight back, it feels a bit forced and somewhat unlikely even. It doesn't even really make sense once you start thinking about it. He could had so easily gone to the police or some of his superiors at the hospital and all of the mayhem would had stopped immediately. Instead he puts his own life and that of others on the line, to put a halt to things.

It's so disappointing, since the movie was well on its way to become a way better movie than its predecessor and a pretty good movie of its own. Now I really wouldn't rate it much better than the first one and I'm glad there isn't a third movie (yet).

  • The doctor and soccer player in the leisure time Jo Hauser (Barnaby Metschurat) decides to move to Berlin and be an intern in a famous clinic, expecting to increase his knowledge and expertize, and help his handicap brother Willi Hauser (Hanno Koffer). He joins a secret fraternity of doctors, under the leadership of Prof. Müller-LaRousse (Herbert Knaup), who is researching the use of bionic muscles in human beings without any ethics or respect to the laws. The team is also volunteer to the experiences, and is under investigation of Paula Henning (Franka Potente). When Jo gets close to a Filipino nurse, and becomes addicted in the drugs used in experience, he realizes the truth hidden in the methods used by the secret society in the development of science. "Anatomy 2" is a deceptive and forgettable story with total lack of credibility. The participation of Franka Potente is ridiculous, only to give her name to the credits and to attract her fans. The implausible story is very imbecile, but anyway if the viewer shutdown the brain, the film entertains. My vote is six.

... last semester? Or last movie ... although to be fair we get a new group of people with at least one surviving character returning, to make an impact ... a little impact at least. And depending on what character I mean ... and what part of the movie I'm talking about. But back to basics - they really thought of things, medicine wise, something that is even more apparent in the first movie or at least feels like that.

We get another bunch of teenagers (or is tweens? Probably the latter, but I never bothered to check their age) who try to learn about Anatomy. And some have quite the freaky methods to do so. Now the motives of the villain(s?) of this movie are sinister but also they have good intentions ... when has that ever been a good excuse? I know - still it is quite intriguing and something that somewhat saves this movie from total obscurity.

Like the first one, this has a bonus scene right after the credits start rolling ... in this case it may be even more important ... well if there ever had been an Anatomy 3 that is ... because it seems like quite the set up for it ... but what do I know, right?

the first one was great (a common sequel-problem...?)... this time it's a different approach to tell the story: more action, which results in fast cuts and steady-cam... but also in a lack of time to explain all reused elements from the first one (good!) and to introduce them (very bad!). The main characters are too stereotyped and don't show enough plausible development... at least it isn't boring for a second but it could have been done much better...

The Anti-Hippocratic Society is back and they are continuing to experiment on human test subjects. The problem is that their concern isn't so much for any patients as it is for notoriety. To conceal their experiments, "Professor Charles Muller-LaRouse" (Herbert Knaup) has his young proteges experiment on themselves. Again and again. And when they are no longer useful he disposes of them. It is at this time that a young intern named "Jo Hauser" (Barnaby Metschurat) joins the medical center. Because his younger brother "Willi Hauser" (Hanno Koffler) suffers from a debilitating neurological disease he becomes very interested in their research. But he joins not realizing the full facts and the dangers involved. At any rate, rather than give away any of the mysteries or ruin the suspense I will just say that this movie progresses in a logical and dark manner. Good performances were done by all but I especially liked the aforementioned Barnaby Metshurat along with Rosie Alvarez ("Lee") and Heike Makatsch ("Viktoria") as the good and bad female love interests respectfully. All things said and done, this is not a bad sequel and I believe if you liked the first movie then you will probably like this one as well.

To copy Hollywood by making a movie in the tradition of SCREAM, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER etc., now a sequel was made ( also like SCREAM etc. )! But I was surprised, that it was much better then expected.

The styles of the both movies are totally different, the first part, a real horror-slasher-movie, Anatomie2 became a horror-thriller. Less

(but still enough) bloody shock effects, more action, more thrill. Also good, the little insight view of todays reality in hospitals, it gives a touch of autencity. But unfortunately also silly scenes ( power-penis after implanting a new muscel ), they were not really necessary! After all, not the best movie, but good enough for nice entertainment.

This 2003 movie is the sequel to the original from 3 years earlier and as the first film is one of Germany's most known films abroad, this is probably one of Germany's most known sequels abroad. The writer and director is Austrian Stefan Ruzowitzky again, later an Academy Award winner in the Foreign Language category. But there are changes too. First of all, the lead actor is Barnaby Metschurat this time and he did not appear in the first film. Franka Potente returns too, but only has a supporting role this time. Also this film does not have that many horror aspects as the first, such as severed fingers or stuffed humans. It's really more of a psychological crime movie.

However, I have to say that I was not impressed at all by Metschurat. He looks like a young Ludwig Trepte to me and has equally little dramatic range. There is a reason why almost all the supporting players in this movie have bigger careers in 2015 than him. This includes Herbert Knaup, Frank Giering (no bigger career obviously, but more known), August Diehl, Heike Makatsch, the Möhring brothers, Martin Brammbach (a personal favorite) and especially Hanno Kofler, who plays the protagonists wheelchair-bound brother in here and is really a rising star right now. Another difference between this film and the original is that in there the real villain was not the powerful greedy old man, but his young assistants. Here, the number one villain is easily Herbert Knaup (and Makatsch to a smaller extent) and he proves once again that he is a very talented actor. He carries this film from start to finish, especially in those moments when Metschurat's shortcomings become painfully clear. Knaup and Potente already played in "Lola rennt" together and it brought him a German Film Award win.

The runtime is fairly identical with the first film, only slightly longer, but still under the 40-minute mark. All in all, I would say this is on par with the original. Both are decent thrillers, but there really is no greatness attached to any of them. Sadly this one here has the far worse lead performance, but the cast as a whole is better this time. So it stays basically the same. Recommended for people who enjoy thrillers or are just curious in general about German cinema.

    awful
I was deeply disappointed after seeing this movie. The first part was really great, it was fresh, the plot was unpredictable, it simply had that special something which I was missing in Anatomie 2. It's a simple action movie with a bad cut and has nothing to offer, that you haven't seen already...
  • Surprisingly sharp sequel to the original Anatomy finds a young med student getting involved with a drugged up woman who gets him involved with the AAA. The AAA has expanded their field of medical research from the first film. This time around they are using their youngest members to test out synthetic muscles, but of course their experiements get out of control which results in plenty of murder and mayhem.

Right on the same level, if not slightly better then the original. The script expands itself and tries to head in a different direction instead of being a copy of the original. And the film crew give the film a visually appealing look. It's one fast paced, sexy, smart, and thrilling ride.

Rated R; Violence, Profanity, Drug Use, Sexuality.
  • A young medical student Joachim Hauser leaves home to take on an internship at a Berlin hospital. Through his hard work and willingness he catches the eye of Professor Charles Müller-LaRousse, especially when he risks his career by secretly conducting an operation on an uninsured immigrant child. Instead of dismissing him, Müller-LaRousse invites Joachim to join his group because of his commitment to push the traditional rules beside. He learns the members are in the society known as the Anti-hippocratics and they plan to replace muscle tissues with advanced artificial devices. And they themselves are the guinea pigs for the revolutionary experiment. He becomes part of the test subjects, but it does come at a cost when things turn dangerous.

"Anatomie 2" just happens to be inferior in every possible way to the mildly reasonable "Anatomie". In due credit, at least it does go for a different angle, but in doing so. It totally missed the point in what made the original film effective, in what it set out to do. The premise has a complicatedly overheated and radical vision, which did gain my interest, to only have trouble keeping it. This is when it becomes overpopulated with ludicrous assumptions, meandering pockets and very corny theatrics. There's very little room for intensity, suspense, action and even menace. Without these aspects, there's just no bang for your buck here. Those things made the original entertaining, especially how creepy, sterile and gruesome it could be. None of this even occurs on this outing and it registers as just another systematic thriller with comic Sci-fi brushes.

The verbose script is carefully structured with it dealing with the chemistry of body enhancements, junkie addiction and even touching on the immigrants' plights. But it does skip out on the fun and no real surprises are integrated into the fodder. While the story does seem to rush along, this is more towards Stefan Ruzowitzky's slickly accomplished direction. He illustrates quite an unique style and has a higher budget to work off, but considering that it didn't too much for the film's final outcome. Screaming throughout is an up-scale rock soundtrack interwoven into the humming musical score and agile camera-work has an untamed air to it. Editing is thick and fast, by trying to be ultra-hip and mixing it slow-motion when they decide to up the film's ante. After a impressive opening that grabs hold, it doesn't really hit its straps until a good 75 minutes have past. Performances are above par. Franke Potente returns, but only in a minor role as the policewoman who's trying to convict the wrong doers of medical trade. In the lead Barnaby Metschurat is sincerely likable and naturally good as Joachim. The beautifully capable Filipina Rosie Alvarez is innocently sweet as the concerned and caring nurse Lee. Heike Makatsch stuns in her intoxicatedly sexy turn as Viktoria, one of the interns in on the experiment. Herbert Knaup is perfect as the egotistically clinical Professor Muller-LaRousse.

While removing itself far from it predecessor with an expansively formidable (if preposterous. ) concept, it does lack the edge and atmosphere to simply leave this one to be quite a lacklustre medical Sci-fi thriller.
  • Jo Hauser (Barnaby Metschurat), a new intern at a notable German hospital, suspects something's amiss with Proffesor Muller-LaRousse (Herbert Knaup), who is studying the use of bionic muscles in order to make superior humans, but not before getting addicted to the performance enhancing drugs. Well acted, but ultimately uninvolved, unexciting film that is way too generic for it's own good.Franka Potente has a very small cameo to drive up video sales.

    My Grade:D+

Here's a movie that attempts to give up in depth characters and suspense throughout. The only problem is, it has way too much character info/background and suspense! It actually has too few scenes of action and horror to keep me interested, which resulted in me having to try three times to watch this film before actually finishing it. I mean, I like to know a little something about the characters in a horror movie I'm going to watch, but I want there to be enough scenes of horror to keep it going! Scenes where things actually happen are few and far between, resulting in boredom. And boy do I hate a movie that lies to you about it's cast! It shows Franka Potente from the first (and far superior) film, on the side and back of the cover, and the movie makes you think she's the star, but she's really only in it for a few scenes. Anyway, the movie is about a young doctor who joins a secret society, only to find out it is being run by a mad doctor who is replacing people's real muscles with artificial ones. It sounds interesting, and it kind of is, if you can get through it's endless scenes of so called character development and exposition.
  • The link between this sequel and the first ANATOMIE is precisely what I had found more interesting in the first movie: the ethical borders in medicine. However in this film the matter has a special development as the truly, and the only, point of the film is that one. The movie genre of this sequel is quite different from the first one, because if ANATOMIE could perfectly fit in the horror type, including the plot development and other typical clichés of that genre, ANATOMIE 2 is more like a Scientific Fiction thriller. Of course it also has suspense, deaths, and a bit of blood but it's more like a action thriller with the medicine issue as background. In this film the secret Masonic organization called A.A.A (Age Actabile Antihippocrate) – which is the main link to the first movie – was trying to achieve a new kind of muscular strength, hoping to create a superman! I enjoyed this sequel in a different way from the first movie, but also score it 6/10.
  • Warning: Spoilers
This movie fails pretty much. It starts with playing around with medical terms and such but then it quickly turns into a scientific version of X-Men. It copies some elements from the first movie but its still hard to connect it to the first movie if not for the anti-Hippocrates. The anti-Hippocrates in this movie annoy me the most, they are supposed to be just normal scientists who want to experiment beyond ethical boundaries, thus achieving good for the humanity. In this movie they are nothing like that, they are evil bastards who want to do evil things! Still the major plot hole is that nearly all the disciples of this Charles guy are against killing someone for the good of science, but I thought that was the whole point of anti-Hippocrates?

Enjoyed viewing this German film and the very strange story about a young man who is studying to become a doctor and decides to get some intern work with poor people who are not able to afford medical services. This doctor hits it lucky and meets some very important doctors who are very famous and is accepted into their hospital. After being in the hospital for a brief period of time, he meets a young female doctor who asks him to strip naked and even grabs his private parts for a sex experiment. As the film progresses, there are very weird experiments performed and plenty of drugs are being used constantly through out this hospital. Some parts of the hospital are nothing but Butcher Shops with plenty of blood and gore, plus plenty of cuts being performed on human bodies. The only female in the picture is very hot to trot, but is very ugly and old.
  • In 2003's "Anatomie 2" we are introduced to Jo, who is a young medical student that gets invited to a secluded research group for muscle enhancement. His original goal was to help his brother who is bound to a wheelchair but soon he finds himself in a seriously dangerous environment.

The movie starts with a shocking intro sequence where a young man kills himself with a scalpel blade shouting that he doesn't feel a thing from his wounds. After that we get to meet our protagonist and what starts off as harmless research quickly goes over the top after being introduced to the research group from Müller-LaRousse. While the first movie was an atmospheric horror slasher which was grounded in reality, this movie definitely goes towards the silly and over the top side. There are many silly scenes that take all of the seriousness away but the movie still manages to be a thrilling ride mainly thanks to its lead portrayed by Barnaby Metschurat. There is some weird editing and many sequences were rather meant to be funny than shocking or scary. We are introduced to a handful of different and enjoyable characters and sets look convincing.

Even though this movie goes more towards the trashy side and has some pretty weird ideas, it's certainly manages to entertain and be a stand out film that is definitely memorable in it's own way. The overall quality drops quite a bit but in the end I was entertained and that's the main goal. [5,8/10]

The AAA club is back. This time a young doctor wants to roll with the cool crowd so he jumps on the AAA bandwagon. They are the Anti-Hippocratics. You've got to take risks to save lives, dang it! So this cool medical clique performs experiments on themselves to further their research. Everybody gets a synthetic muscle and other goodies. Ethics, murder and the state of modern medicine is debated as our hero comes to grips with the harsh reality that he is being used.

Speaking of being used, I thought this flick was supposed to be a horror movie. I saw the first "Anatomy" and mildly enjoyed it. "Anatomy" was a competent rip-off of "Scream" and other recent teen horror flicks. "Anatomy 2" doesn't even want to rip-off "Anatomy". Isn't that what sequels are supposed to do? Give us more of the same? "Anatomy 2" is trying to be some sort of medical thriller but I wasn't thrilled. No scares here. There are just doctors grappling with ethics as the hard rock music blasts away. Yeahhhhh....Snore....

They could make a hundred more "Anatomy" movies. Just make it a series of medical ethic thrillers. But just count me out. I'm checking out of this B-movie hospital.
  • Randomly coming across these is the best way to experience them.

The original is a fascist fever dream, and the sequel is a worthy follow up. If I had a magic wand I would make a series out of these concepts.

The people behind both of the movies knew what they were doing, and executed it properly. If I spoke German I'd write a third movie and push to have it made by famous German actors. It shouldn't be made in any other language, and needs to be a series that branches into the theoretical future.

Best "medical school" movies I've ever seen. It's inspirational and could rival the Saw series if it is crafted in the right way.

Anguish continues, super in love with the franchise, I hope it is a long and lasting sequence, they raised these proofs to the NASA -like astronomical level, it serves to feel more dumb, could not understand half of what they said during the charade, And the tests as wonderful as the previous, luxury successor of the late "Saw" ... They could make a sequence with previous games, scientists, influencers, with priests would be excellent, all cited in the two previous films, would it be perfect not? Let's get out of the oven soon the third sequence... And a deepening about the daughter ... Amazing...
