              The Department Store
The 23rd release of Sennett's SMITH FAMILY series has the family -- Raymond McKee, Ruth Hiatt and Mary Ann Jackson -- heading to a department store to buy some furniture. While waiting for the department to open, they go hunting other deals.

Most comedies set in a department store take advantage of the wide varieties of goods on offer to use them as props. This one is far more situational, with McKee asking a pretty lady to help him choose some underwear for his wife, Mary Ann dealing with the other children in the store's child care center, and so forth. It's fairly typical of the series, which is far more human than the other, gag-filled comedies of Sennett's movies.

The copy I looked at was ten minutes in length. This is likely a cut-down; the others timed in at 20 minutes.
