  • A wonderful tour de force performance by Katy Jurado playing an elderly writer who has lived and played hard and known many of the prominent artists and writers of her era. This was Jurado's final performance and in many respects her best!
  • This is, frankly, one of the great movies of all times. It's worthy of being labeled a classic. It can live forever. It's never going to go out of style. And it's for everyone. That's the shortest report I can give you. Un Secreto de Esperanza is magical. The acting is exquisite. It's impeccable. The photography is pristine. It was a bit of a shock to see the physical beauty of Katy gone(God rest her soul now). She was always a real fine actress, as well as beautiful. Now she was a really old, wreak of a woman. But her ability to create a full-blown person was still as sharp as ever. And I know it was a magical movie about magical people because before long, somehow, she was beautiful all over again, even if she was old and out of shape. This story has layers, it has substance, it has intelligence, it has integrity, it's got so much spirit it radiates. I staggered out at the end gasping 'everyone has to see this'. I kept thinking: if enough people see this movie, we might even have world peace. You know, it just got to me, to my core. What a gift. Thank you to everyone who helped make this film. It was heaven.

This movie is wonderful. I loved the acting, the music, the photography, etc... Even when I am not a movie-expert, I consider that this movies contents the most important thing that any movie has to have: LIFE The movie touched me and I am very glad to have seen this movie in Mexico at the premier in this country.

Very very well done to all the people involved, specially to the producers, Moy Jafiff, Benito Salerno and Aquiles Enriquez.

Of course, every one of the actors deserves my recognition and admiration, Katy Jurado was an excellent actress and human being and this movie shows the best of her. Imanol is a very cute guy. Ana De la Reguera and Jaime Aymerich complements the history with very good acting. Thank you to every one of the people who make this movie a reality.

A touching movie in which the character of Esperanza blends with Katy Jurado, producing such an effect in Jorge, played by Imanol, that changes his life. Both performances are remarkable, as well as the homage payed to a great actress. The photography is great, the music beautiful and the art work excellent. Though it could be shorter.
  • What is the "Secreto" and who or what is the Esperanza (Hope) referred to in this movie? The answer unfolds like a beautiful flower. No baloney: This was one of my all-time favorite movies. I was lucky enough to catch it in a limited Los Angeles screening. Everything about it is timeless; the story, the actors and the music. The casting was right on. I just couldn't take my eyes off Katy Jurado! She is absolutely compelling! For those who are not familiar with her work, picture a female version of Sir Anthony Hopkins; the kind of actor who just moves an eyebrow and you gasp, it's so profound. Composer Misha Segal did an incredible job honoring Ms. Jurado's performance. Although the music has a totally different feel to it, this is Segal's best scoring work since Phantom of the Opera. Overall, such a gorgeous film, the kind I could see repeatedly, of which I'd never grow tired, discovering nuances with each viewing. Highly, highly recommended.
  • I saw this film in the Sarasota Film Festival. This film is great, the story itself its amazing. I know the boy that came out as Jorge (Imanol) he is a great actor. Everybody in the production made a great job. The movie at first it's going to make you laugh, but as the story evolves it's going to make you cry your eyes out. this is a most see movie. I know that its going to be premiered on the U.S. soon maybe even first than in mexico.
  • The photographer work is remarkable as his photography adds a unique atmosphere to the film. Art department did a good job recreating the 80´s in Mexico city. a well told story about the relationship of a former artist and a child, although could use a little more insight on this subject.

A beautiful Secret: it's a pretty nice movie, with a great Katy Jurado, the only Mexican actress who received an Oscar in Hollywood. The male protagonist of the movie is Jaime Aymerich (Latin - see also serial "Fat Actress"), really capable in playing the character of Jorge when adult. The message that the movie wants to communicate is: don't ever forget to be yourself. It's the story of the friendship between a young boy and an old teacher and of the fair things that she teaches the boy and which will determine his behaviour when adult. Among the producers of "Secreto" there's Aquiles Enriquez, also very capable in his part. I hope that many people could have enjoyed this movie. Its premier was March, 18th in Mexico; then it came to US and the rest of America.

A true master piece, I have seen this movie twice, I was lucky enough be invited to see it at a special screening in L.A. in 2002 and I saw it again once it opened here in Mexico.

This move has something that a lot of Mexican movies lack, it has honesty and sincerity in its characters.

It is superbly well written, very well directed, Imanol and Katy Jurado accomplished really great performances and the movie is rounded off by the excellent acting of Ana de la Reguera and Jaime Aymerich.

    The photography is also excellent.

If you have a chance, please go see this movie, you wont regret it.
  • homage to a great actress. map of childhood map. lesson about essential ingredients of life. slices f Great Expectations. and discovery of truth as root, seed, fruit of a meeting. its beauty is out of words. because more than a film, it is a building of emotions, hope and desires. a house. and circle of fundamental dialog. its virtue - delicate measure. and force, extraordinary force of Katy Jurado performance as drawing of subtle nuances. its heart - the silence as form of each word. the refined accent and the honey-amber atmosphere. for me, it remains a kind of Proust madlene. shadow of talks with my grand mother in long afternoons and evenings. and , in same measure, like for Jorge, contact with a flower of beauty and wise.must see it ! for understand the sense of real existence.
