There are few names that get Disney historians to raise their eyebrows like Disneytoon. The studio behind the Mouse House's direct-to-home-media racket from 1990 to 2018, Disneytoon was tasked with knocking out sequels, prequels, and spin-offs to its parent company's biggest animated films as quickly and, just as importantly, cheaply as possible. The results weren't exactly Disney magic, but you can't blame the studio's artists for doing what they could. In the end, they made 47 (!) animated movies in three decades, and hey: They helped give us Al's hot dad Cassim (John Rhys-Davies) from "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and the generational cult classic that is "A Goofy Movie," so you gotta show them some respect.
This brings us to today's specific topic: "Planes." Directed by Klay Hall ("Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure"), it's an odd duck among Disneytoon's output, being a theatrical release based on Pixar's "Cars" franchise. The...

Pixar movies are always magical, bringing emotional depth to stunning visuals that move both adults and kids. But the one ingredient that has always been sprinkled on almost every single Pixar film is the voice of John Ratzenberger, the studio’s lucky charm.
With a filmography full of larger-than-life characters, most would think that the voice actor would get his due with every new release that aims to include him. But sometimes, even beloved veterans like Ratzenberger aren’t honored properly, and it’s more than evident in Soul.

When Pixar fans tuned in to watch Soul, they were expecting to see its usual flair of gorgeous animations and emotional themes, along with a cameo from Ratzenberger. However, Pete Docter had something up his sleeve: an Easter egg in Soul that you can miss by blinking.

When approached objectively, a connection between Toy Story and Monsters Inc. may appear improbable. Yet, a deeper look might prove something else. At least, that’s what thousands of fans of the seemingly unconnected animated flicks believe.
Though it has never been officially confirmed, the diehard fans have always believed that Pixar Studios has ingeniously hidden a few Easter eggs in its large canon. One of the most popular among these theories is the existence of the shared Pixar Universe.
Apart from the theory that all beloved movies are set in the same universe, another hypotheses suggest that the eponymous monsters from Monsters Inc. (2001) can teleport. This theory, in turn, gave birth to the idea that the monster scaring Toy Story’s Andy might be none other than the Monstropolis villain, Randall Boggs.
Randall Boggs might be the connecting factor for Toy Story and Monsters Inc.

It's generally agreed that John Lasseter's 2006 film "Cars" is one of Pixar's less ambitious movies. Other movies in the Pixar canon tickled the imagination by presenting the secret worlds of commonplace beings. "Toy Story" posited that our toys came to life when we weren't looking (which we always kinda knew was true anyway). "A Bug's Life" saw ants as arranged into a tiny, secret society, while "Finding Nemo" did the same with fish. "Monsters, Inc." said that closet monsters were real, but that they only scare children as an element of a boring, blue-collar job. Back in monster land, the monsters are boring like your dad.
"Cars" was a departure for the studio, as there was no secret being revealed. "Cars" took place in a parallel universe wherein living beings were replaced by anthropomorphic vehicles. They had eyes instead of windshields, and mouths on their bumpers. They seemed to eat gasoline.

Paradise Season 2 has been filming for a few weeks now, and the creative team is certainly not being shy about sharing new looks at production. Days after the official Paradise Instagram account shared a look at returning star Sterling K. Brown and newcomer Shailene Woodley from behind the scenes of Season 2, Dan Fogelman has followed suit and released a new image of Brown from Season 2. The image shows Brown reprising his role as Agent Xavier Collins, looking a bit worse for wear, with one of his eyes even being extremely bloodshot. Hulu has yet to set an official release date for Paradise Season 2, but it’s expected to return to the streamer sometime before the end of next year.
Starring alongside Brown in Paradise Season 1 is James Marsden, who portrays President Cal Bradford. Cal is murdered during the opening moments of Paradise, and although the entire season follows Brown’s Collins investigating his death,...

We’re now more than a month removed from the Paradise Season 1 finale, but the hit thriller series from Dan Fogelman just took a major step forward for Season 2. The official Paradise Instagram account shared a new video of leading star Sterling K. Brown from behind-the-scenes of Season 2, along with newcomer Shailene Woodley, from the first day of filming. Fogelman shared a photo from his personal social media near the end of March to confirm that Paradise Season 2 had begun principal photography, and now it appears the stars have arrived to begin filming the show. Brown stars alongside X-Men and Sonic veteran James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson in the first season of Paradise, and while it has been confirmed that Nicholson will reprise her role as Sinatra, there has been no word on Marsden’s involvement in Season 2.

Back when flip phones ruled and crime shows were everywhere, Monk stood out like a sore thumb, one that had to be washed 27 times. Adrian Monk wasn’t your typical detective. He was a genius with germ issues, a human magnifying glass with 312 phobias, and the reason millions of us developed an odd respect for hand wipes. Tony Shalhoub made Monk iconic, but the rest of the gang, Natalie, Stottlemeyer, Randy, and even Sharona, brought their own brand of chaos, charm, and comedy.
For eight glorious seasons, they solved murders, wrestled personal baggage, and somehow made Ocd oddly heartwarming. After the show wrapped in 2009, fans waited years for a comeback. Then boom, 2023’s Mr. Monk’s Last Case dropped like a nostalgic mic, reuniting the core crew. It reminded us just how much we missed this quirky crime-solving family. Now it’s 2025, and we’re snooping around like Monk himself...

The rise of sneakerhead culture has infiltrated every area of style worldwide. What was once limited to sportswear has become a multi-national business. Sneaks takes the basic premise of sneaker culture and anthropomorphizes the very item being collected. Like Toy Story or Cars, the animation team develops unique ways to bring everyday items to life. While the attempt to highlight sneakerhead culture, and by extension, Black culture, is well-intentioned, the stylized animation does not always hold up its end of the bargain. It makes Sneaks a fun but ineffective experience for adults. Kids will likely still find something to enjoy, but it could drive parents crazy.

Market movies are majorly marketed toward kids, but let’s be real, some of the best films of all time have come from animation. If you have seen movies like the Toy Story franchise, Woody and Buzz always have an amazing tale to share with some of the best messages. Even Lightning McQueen’s redemption in Cars is proof that animation isn’t just for kids.
Animated films have the ability to bend stories easily due to a lack of realism, and this gives creators great freedom in creating movies and stories that would be hard to make with real-life actors. Signs of a good animated movie will have a balance of stunning visuals, a heartfelt story, and good humor.

Disney is making a controversial change to the Magic Kingdom, and many fans are upset both by what is being taken away, and what they are getting in exchange.
Back in August, Disney announced that it would be closing the Florida iteration of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer's Island — opening day attractions at Walt Disney World and, arguably, key parts of Disney parks iconography — for new experiences based on the movie Cars.
This would not be like the attractions in Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, as they would not (at least primarily) feature the familiar Cars characters from the movie, but they would be taking up the large plot of land devoted now to the river and island.

It's been almost 20 years since Cars raced into theaters everywhere, and while there have been two sequels in the years since, none have reached the same heights as the original. One of the universal bright spots in the Cars franchise has been Mater, voiced by famous comedian Larry the Cable Guy. Mater features in all three Cars movies, and even stars in the two spin-off TV shows Cars Toons and Cars on the Road. Iron Studios has honored Larry the Cable Guy's performance as the iconic tow truck of Radiator Springs by releasing a new 1/10 size figure of him which is now available for pre-order and retails for $449.99. It features his iconic towing hook, and is expected to fully launch between July and September later this year.

For years, the Pixar Theory Timeline has been circulating on the internet. This timeline connects every movie in the Pixar universe. Author Jon Negroni, around 2012, proposed that Pixar intentionally leaves clues that indicate their movies occur in the same timeline and space, if people know how to arrange them. Negroni himself proposes a particular timeline for the movies that clearly shows how every installment connects to the following one.
The Pixar Theory Timeline proposes that from The Good Dinosaur to Monsters Inc., Pixar shows a society that has evolved into different species and technologies over the years. The main drive for all these movies seems to be that technology drastically changes the Earth, initiating new cycles of life. However, all of these beings are alive thanks to the power of human emotions.

Owen Wilson is taking to the golf course for the upcoming sports comedy Stick, which has received a first-look ahead of its June 4 release on Apple TV+. The streaming service is teeing the series up for a debut that will see three episodes drop at once, followed by one new episode every Wednesday until the 10th and final episode releases on July 23.
The images (seen below) reveal Wilson's character, Pryce Cahill, "an over-the-hill, ex-pro golfer" whose career "derailed prematurely 20 years ago" (per Apple TV+). In the show, he returns to the green to mentor Santi, "a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom," played by Peter Dager. According to the show's official synopsis, Cahill's mentorship role comes at a turbulent time in his life as his marriage has broken down, and he also now finds himself unemployed after being fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store.

Political thrillers are a hot genre right now, and Hulu’s Paradise is one of the newest entries on the list of some of the best new (and returning) ones this year. The drama has been well received through its first few episodes to date, with viewers shocked by the massive twist that’s revealed at the end of the first episode and eager to discover the answer to the big overarching mystery.
The show has some big-name actors among its cast, hails from a creator with a fantastic track record in TV (albeit with shows of a very different genre), and blends the worlds of government, billionaires, and science.
What Is Paradise About?
It’s tough to talk about the premise of Paradise without revealing the big episode one twist. First off, the show centers around Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), a Secret Service agent in charge of the U.

Soul, Luca and Turning Red have all largely been buried on Disney+, but why? As always, we’ve had some thoughts.
Pixar has long been at the forefront of American mainstream animation. The studio ushered in the era of CG animation with its debut feature Toy Story, intelligently explored darker themes of loss in Up, and helped all of us make sense of the messy emotions in our heads with Inside Out. Not to mention, its trophy cabinet must be buckling under the weight of all of its awards.
Of course, not all of its films have been hits. Lightyear, a Toy Story spin-off, missed the mark, and the Cars franchise remains, well, ordinary. Still, Pixar has always been at its best when focusing on original films, and at a point where blockbusters were dominated by sequels and franchises, Pixar was putting often breathtakingly original movies through the Hollywood system.

Disney is a studio known for creating pure magic with their films, but not even the most acclaimed artists can have a hit on their hands 100% of the time. As Disney has gone through different eras with its animation and live-action releases, the studio has had its fair share of flops. More recently, with a shift in emphasis on live-action remakes of its classic animated tales, Disney has disappointed audiences as it shallowly attempts to cultivate nostalgia by translating beautifully animated musicals into CGI-inundated, bland, poorly-written content.
Though these frequent missteps are new, Disney isn't a stranger to less-than-desirable films. The studio has had similar issues with audience reception during their early 2000s period and even back in the 1980s after Disney's first PG-rated animated film, The Black Cauldron, severely tanked at the box office. Seeing such faulty storytelling and filmmaking from Disney can be hard to stomach, especially for their most loyal fans.

We love a good celebrity cameo, especially when it comes with one adorable yet a tad bit dysfunctional family. When Kevin Hart paid a visit to the set of Modern Family, we knew that it was going to be a good episode and the show really didn’t disappoint. The actor/comedian played the guest role of Andre, the Dunphys’ neighbor. Andre had been living in the same neighborhood as Phil and the clan for nearly a decade but they somehow never crossed paths.

When their friendship blossomed, Andre gave Phil the confidence he was doing just fine without. What resulted was a series of hilarious and wholesome moments that once again proved why Modern Family is a staple in the television industry.

Hayao Miyazaki’s contribution to the world of anime films is undeniable. He is a legend among animators, and great directors from all over the world have praised and recognized his dedication to the craft. Miyazaki’s films serve as inspiration to children, adults as well as people in his field.
Miyazaki’s first Oscar-winning film was Spirited Away, which debuted in 2001 and won the Best Animated Feature award at the 75th Academy Awards. It became the highest-grossing film in Japanese history at the time, a record that was surpassed only a few years ago.

“There it is,” says Computer Conor, finding the advert for his modest computer-art service in the latest issue of Personal Computing while his dog, Sandy, snuffles on the sofa. Though the aesthetic of Obex — Albert Birney’s follow-up to the pastel-hued Strawberry Mansion (2021) — is grainy ’70s Eraserhead monochrome, appearances can be deceiving. The year is 1987, with Reagan in the White House and Madonna in the charts, but Conor (played by Birney himself) is unaware. A virtual shut-in, he sees life through a screen, even sending his neighbor Mary to do his grocery shopping.

Hulu's new political thriller, Paradise, is an instant hit, debuting at number one on the streamer's Top 10 chart. The show stars Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) as a Secret Service Agent tasked with guarding the President, played by James Mardsen (X-Men). It's from This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, who knows how to produce an excellent drama.
Paradise has a sizzling 82% fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and, so far, it holds a 7.8 / 10 rating on IMDb. MovieWeb's own Greg Archer enjoyed the debut, saying, "Paradise is an exceptional series that checks all the boxes viewers crave — great characters, high-stakes drama, plot twists — and gives Emmy winner Brown yet another chance to shine."

Spoiler Alert: This story contains plot points from the first three episodes of Paradise on Hulu.
After dropping the first episode of Paradise on Sunday, Hulu has made episodes 2 and 3 of the thriller available to audiences that should have provided a bit more context to that mysterious twist at the end of the pilot.
Here, creator Dan Fogelman talks about what inspired him to write the thriller starring Sterling K. Brown, James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson and why we had to wait until the premiere to finally learn what he’s been working on since wrapping his NBC drama This Is Us in 2022.
Deadline: Before we get into Paradise, I want to start at the moment after This is Us. Did you wonder if you developed a reputation as a creator of triple-hanky family dramas?
Dan Fogelman: I was pretty exhausted. It had been a long six years of making a lot of television.

Famously, actor Paul Newman once joked that the epitaph on his tombstone would read: “Here lies Paul Newman, who died a failure because his eyes turned brown.” That wasn’t something that actually happened — Newman’s iconic blue eyes stayed the same vibrant color for his entire life — but you could see why that possibility was something the Hollywood star thought much about. Newman didn’t entirely owe his success to his eyes — many of his most acclaimed projects were in black-and-white, from the harsh gambling drama “The Hustler” to the modern Western “Hud.”
But a lot of his movies were in color, and it’s fair to say that those piercing baby blues were an essential component of his star image. In his breakout role in lurid melodrama “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” they conveyed youthful arrogance and vulnerability; in his mid-career turns in films like “Cool Hand Luke...

The Fast & Furious franchise scored another hit in 2023 with Fast X, and even though critics tried to slam the brakes on the (reportedly) penultimate movie in the franchise, audiences were mostly happy with the increasingly elaborate high-octane action movie. However, Vin Diesel has previously suggested that he really wants to bring the franchise back down to the ground with the same kind of gritty street racing that made the original movies a success. Now another star of the franchise has echoed the sentiment, which is also something that many fans would like to see as the saga comes to a close.
Original Fast star Jordana Brewster recently shared her thoughts on how she would like to see the franchise go “back to the roots” of the saga. In an interview with Collider to promote her new movie Heart Eyes with Final Destination star Devon Sawa, Brewster said:
“Yeah, big time.

The writer and producer Dan Fogelman has a CV that spans genres, from a script credit on Pixar’s 2006 movie “Cars” to creating the musical fantasy series “Galavant.” But Fogelman is best known for “This Is Us,” the NBC hit that spent six seasons applying a twisty structure to a sentimental family drama. This unorthodox formula won a large and loyal audience, but to this critic, it was always a mismatch — hiding pertinent information in the name of cheap surprise.
With his latest series, the Hulu thriller “Paradise,” Fogelman pivots to a register where Omg-inducing water cooler moments feel much more at home. “Paradise” still retains elements of the “This Is Us” ethos, beginning with star Sterling K. Plot: Set in a serene community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals. But this tranquility explodes when a shocking murder occurs, and a high-stakes investigation unfolds.
Review: You are not prepared for Paradise. Sure, the trailers make it out to be a somewhat run-of-the-mill political thriller about the murder of the President of the United States and his most trusted protector, who may be involved in a massive conspiracy. Still, it is so much more than that. Built as a serial drama with a fantastic ensemble cast, Paradise draws structurally from series like Lost and Yellowjackets by combining a contemporary timeline with flashbacks that fill in the gaps of how the characters got to where they are today but also manages to upend the conventions of what we expect from a series like this. Having seen the entire series (except for the finale), I have a lot of thoughts about Paradise,...

In a remarkable career spanning over 60 years, Kurt Russell has just about done it all. He's been a Disney child star, an action hero, a serious dramatic actor, an unabashedly silly comedic lead, and Elvis Presley. Though Russell was never a box office titan on par with contemporaries like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis, he is worshipped as a god by genre fandom for having played such iconic s***kickers as Snake Plissken in "Escape from New York," R.J. MacReady in "The Thing" and Jack Burton in "Big Trouble in Little China." Those last two were flops theatrically, but they've gone from being cult favorites to bona-fide mainstream classics. As a result, Russell, at the age of 73, might be more beloved now than he's ever been.
For Russell fanatics, there's a lively discussion to be had over what his best performance outside of that aforementioned holy trinity of John Carpenter movies might be.

Cars 3 is the lowest-grossing entry in the series, but there is one big reason to love it. The movie fell short of any anticipated audience reception by confirming Lightning McQueen's retirement to introduce Cruz Ramirez. Yet, Cars 3 arguably has the strongest plot of all three Cars movies from Pixar. The final installment is an exceptional conclusion to the trilogy and an apt end to McQueen's character growth. Cars 2’s weaker narrative highlighted the difficulty of bringing the franchise to a satisfying conclusion in Cars 3.
The last chapter remains loyal to the roots of the Cars franchise and focuses on the rapidly changing racing industry and its indifference to the racing car — who is determined to retire on his own terms. The movie also has some remarkable visuals with a greater depth than its counterparts, which is one of the things that sets Cars 3 apart from the other two films.

Although he has now retired from acting, Michael Caine's impact on the movie industry cannot be overstated. As a working actor for the better part of eight decades, Caine became one of the most well-established actors in British history, with roles spanning from early British cinema to modern American blockbusters. Even the most casual film viewers could easily identify the actor's signature voice or might even recognize him from a leading role or one of his many supporting roles in Christopher Nolan's filmography.

Hayao Miyazaki is a man who tells things as they are. He does not sugarcoat his words and has often criticized the anime industry at large. The talented director has produced many acclaimed anime movies. Two of them, Spirited Away and The Boy and the Heron have also won the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature.
Miyazaki is close friends with John Lasseter, the director of Toy Story, Cars, A Bugs Life, and other Pixar films. He was deeply moved by Miyazaki’s works and went on to serve as the executive producer for Ghibli movies and oversaw their translation and English dubbing, including that of Spirited Away.

2025 will mark the 20th anniversary of some old animated favorites, and it's hard to believe certain movies have been around for so long. Looking back at the best animated movies from 20 years ago is also a good way to rediscover some forgotten classics. The 2000s saw plenty of straight-to-dvd movies, or movies based on popular children's TV shows that were huge at the time but don't get talked about much these days.
2005 was an interesting year for feature-length animated movies. After releasing Finding Nemo and The Incredibles in back-to-back years, Pixar took a year off before releasing Cars in 2006. Other studios battled it out to claim the throne, with DreamWorks and Aardman Animations both producing classics. Disney also produced its first fully computer-generated movie, finally catching up to the competition and ushering in a new era.

Despite losing the top spot to Wicked on Wednesday for the first time since both films have been playing in theaters, Moana 2 has already been one of the biggest success stories of the year at the box office. The film has hauled in $243 million domestically and $195 million in foreign markets for a whopping worldwide cumulative total of $439 million. After Moana 2 earns another $1 million domestically, which it will certainly do once the numbers for Thursday, December 5 are in, the film will pass Cars, the 2006 animated classic starring Owen Wilson and become one of the top 50 highest-grossing Disney movies of all time. Moana 2 recently passed Maleficent, the 2014 Disney film starring Angelina Jolie, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth out of five Pirates installments starring Johnny Depp.
