There are few names that get Disney historians to raise their eyebrows like Disneytoon. The studio behind the Mouse House's direct-to-home-media racket from 1990 to 2018, Disneytoon was tasked with knocking out sequels, prequels, and spin-offs to its parent company's biggest animated films as quickly and, just as importantly, cheaply as possible. The results weren't exactly Disney magic, but you can't blame the studio's artists for doing what they could. In the end, they made 47 (!) animated movies in three decades, and hey: They helped give us Al's hot dad Cassim (John Rhys-Davies) from "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and the generational cult classic that is "A Goofy Movie," so you gotta show them some respect.

This brings us to today's specific topic: "Planes." Directed by Klay Hall ("Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure"), it's an odd duck among Disneytoon's output, being a theatrical release based on Pixar's "Cars" franchise. The...

Pixar movies are always magical, bringing emotional depth to stunning visuals that move both adults and kids. But the one ingredient that has always been sprinkled on almost every single Pixar film is the voice of John Ratzenberger, the studio’s lucky charm.

With a filmography full of larger-than-life characters, most would think that the voice actor would get his due with every new release that aims to include him. But sometimes, even beloved veterans like Ratzenberger aren’t honored properly, and it’s more than evident in Soul.

When Pixar fans tuned in to watch Soul, they were expecting to see its usual flair of gorgeous animations and emotional themes, along with a cameo from Ratzenberger. However, Pete Docter had something up his sleeve: an Easter egg in Soul that you can miss by blinking.

When approached objectively, a connection between Toy Story and Monsters Inc. may appear improbable. Yet, a deeper look might prove something else. At least, that’s what thousands of fans of the seemingly unconnected animated flicks believe.

Though it has never been officially confirmed, the diehard fans have always believed that Pixar Studios has ingeniously hidden a few Easter eggs in its large canon. One of the most popular among these theories is the existence of the shared Pixar Universe.

Apart from the theory that all beloved movies are set in the same universe, another hypotheses suggest that the eponymous monsters from Monsters Inc. (2001) can teleport. This theory, in turn, gave birth to the idea that the monster scaring Toy Story’s Andy might be none other than the Monstropolis villain, Randall Boggs.

It's generally agreed that John Lasseter's 2006 film "Cars" is one of Pixar's less ambitious movies. Other movies in the Pixar canon tickled the imagination by presenting the secret worlds of commonplace beings. "Toy Story" posited that our toys came to life when we weren't looking (which we always kinda knew was true anyway). Paradise Season 2 has been filming for a few weeks now, and the creative team is certainly not being shy about sharing new looks at production. Days after the official Paradise Instagram account shared a look at returning star Sterling K. Brown and newcomer Shailene Woodley from behind the scenes of Season 2, Dan Fogelman has followed suit and released a new image of Brown from Season 2. The image shows Brown reprising his role as Agent Xavier Collins, looking a bit worse for wear, with one of his eyes even being extremely bloodshot. Disney is making a controversial change to the Magic Kingdom, and many fans are upset both by what is being taken away, and what they are getting in exchange.

Back in August, Disney announced that it would be closing the Florida iteration of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer's Island — opening day attractions at Walt Disney World and, arguably, key parts of Disney parks iconography — for new experiences based on the movie Cars.

This would not be like the attractions in Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, as they would not (at least primarily) feature the familiar Cars characters from the movie, but they would be taking up the large plot of land devoted now to the river and island.

One of the universal bright spots in the Cars franchise has been Mater, voiced by famous comedian Larry the Cable Guy. Political thrillers are a hot genre right now, and Hulu’s Paradise is one of the newest entries on the list of some of the best new (and returning) ones this year. The drama has been well received through its first few episodes to date, with viewers shocked by the massive twist that’s revealed at the end of the first episode and eager to discover the answer to the big overarching mystery.

The show has some big-name actors among its cast, hails from a creator with a fantastic track record in TV (albeit with shows of a very different genre), and blends the worlds of government, billionaires, and science.

What Is Paradise About?

It’s tough to talk about the premise of Paradise without revealing the big episode one twist. First off, the show centers around Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), a Secret Service agent in charge of the U.

Soul, Luca and Turning Red have all largely been buried on Disney+, but why? As always, we’ve had some thoughts.

Pixar has long been at the forefront of American mainstream animation. The studio ushered in the era of CG animation with its debut feature Toy Story, intelligently explored darker themes of loss in Up, and helped all of us make sense of the messy emotions in our heads with Inside Out. Not to mention, its trophy cabinet must be buckling under the weight of all of its awards.

Of course, not all of its films have been hits. Lightyear, a Toy Story spin-off, missed the mark, and the Cars franchise remains, well, ordinary. Still, Pixar has always been at its best when focusing on original films, and at a point where blockbusters were dominated by sequels and franchises, Pixar was putting often breathtakingly original movies through the Hollywood system.

Disney is a studio known for creating pure magic with their films, but not even the most acclaimed artists can have a hit on their hands 100% of the time. As Disney has gone through different eras with its animation and live-action releases, the studio has had its fair share of flops. More recently, with a shift in emphasis on live-action remakes of its classic animated tales, Disney has disappointed audiences as it shallowly attempts to cultivate nostalgia by translating beautifully animated musicals into CGI-inundated, bland, poorly-written content.

Though these frequent missteps are new, Disney isn't a stranger to less-than-desirable films. The studio has had similar issues with audience reception during their early 2000s period and even back in the 1980s after Disney's first PG-rated animated film, The Black Cauldron, severely tanked at the box office. Seeing such faulty storytelling and filmmaking from Disney can be hard to stomach, especially for their most loyal fans.

We love a good celebrity cameo, especially when it comes with one adorable yet a tad bit dysfunctional family. When Kevin Hart paid a visit to the set of Modern Family, we knew that it was going to be a good episode and the show really didn’t disappoint. After dropping the first episode of Paradise on Sunday, Hulu has made episodes 2 and 3 of the thriller available to audiences that should have provided a bit more context to that mysterious twist at the end of the pilot.

Here, creator Dan Fogelman talks about what inspired him to write the thriller starring Sterling K. Brown, James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson and why we had to wait until the premiere to finally learn what he’s been working on since wrapping his NBC drama This Is Us in 2022.

Deadline: Before we get into Paradise, I want to start at the moment after This is Us. Did you wonder if you developed a reputation as a creator of triple-hanky family dramas?

Dan Fogelman: I was pretty exhausted. It had been a long six years of making a lot of television.

Famously, actor Paul Newman once joked that the epitaph on his tombstone would read: “Here lies Paul Newman, who died a failure because his eyes turned brown.” That wasn’t something that actually happened — Newman’s iconic blue eyes stayed the same vibrant color for his entire life — but you could see why that possibility was something the Hollywood star thought much about. Newman didn’t entirely owe his success to his eyes — many of his most acclaimed projects were in black-and-white, from the harsh gambling drama “The Hustler” to the modern Western “Hud.”

Original Fast star Jordana Brewster recently shared her thoughts on how she would like to see the franchise go “back to the roots” of the saga. In an interview with Collider to promote her new movie Heart Eyes with Final Destination star Devon Sawa, Brewster said:

“Severance” is finally back but there are a lot of characters to keep track of and remember in the three years since Season 1.

The Apple TV+ series follows a group of employees at the mysterious Lumon who underwent a procedure that “severs” their consciousness so one version of themselves is constantly at work and knows nothing of the outside world and vice versa. Cars 3 is the lowest-grossing entry in the series, but there is one big reason to love it. The movie fell short of any anticipated audience reception by confirming Lightning McQueen's retirement to introduce Cruz Ramirez. In an interview, John Lasseter was asked what it was like bringing foreign animated films to the US market.

2025 will mark the 20th anniversary of some old animated favorites, and it's hard to believe certain movies have been around for so long. Looking back at the best animated movies from 20 years ago is also a good way to rediscover some forgotten classics. The 2000s saw plenty of straight-to-dvd movies, or movies based on popular children's TV shows that were huge at the time but don't get talked about much these days.

2005 was an interesting year for feature-length animated movies. After releasing Finding Nemo and The Incredibles in back-to-back years, Pixar took a year off before releasing Cars in 2006. Other studios battled it out to claim the throne, with DreamWorks and Aardman Animations both producing classics. Disney also produced its first fully computer-generated movie, finally catching up to the competition and ushering in a new era.
