The concept of the motivational film seems to be a unique one for India, with a number of movies that aim at sending a social message against various ailments and in favor of positive mentality. Sharvi's “Do Over” fulfills both aspects to the highest degree, in an effort that netted it a number of awards at the Chennai World Cinema Festival, including one for Best Director. Whether the movie is actually good, however, is a whole other deal.

Actor Penn Badgley gained more popularity when he eventually decided to give You a chance. He has been the lead character for a few years and finds the role rewarding. The series is not his first big project.
Badgley was in plenty of other works, and his first credited role was when he was a kid. He talked about his experience as a child actor in interviews. While growing up, he received his education differently than most other children in the United States.

On Gilmore Girls, Tricia O’Kelley played Nicole Leahy, Luke (Scott Patterson)’s season 3 love interest. Obviously, Luke and Nicole were not meant to be. Luke and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) were the long term romance of the show. But, while it lasted, Nicole had red hair. O’Kelley reveals this was entirely due to a show she was on prior to Gilmore Girls that got canceled.
Tricia O’Kelley | Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
O’Kelley was a guest on Patterson’s I Am All In podcast on July 13. They reminisced about their Gilmore Girls scenes. She explained how Nicole’s red hair came from her previous show, That Was Then. It lasted another year while she was on Gilmore Girls.
The canceled show that made Tricia O’Kelley dye her hair red
That Was Then was one of two time travel shows to premiere in the 2002 season. Neither that nor Do Over lasted an entire season.

Doppelgänger TV shows happen all the time. Series with similar set-ups, themes, or plotlines go head-to-head and, sometimes, only one survives — like in 2006, when two shows about the making of a fictional “SNL” squared off, and “30 Rock” trounced “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” Other dueling dualities both thrive, like “ER” and “Chicago Hope,” and still more bomb equally, like “Cashmere Mafia” and “Lipstick Jungle” in 2008, or “Do Over” and “That Was Then” in 2002.
Being first to air isn’t always the deciding factor, but when you’re the second somber period drama to revolve around a dead baby — airing amid a global pandemic, no less — then you’re starting in a pretty deep hole. And “The Alienist: Angel of Darkness” just keeps digging, building most of its eight-episode mystery around murdered, kidnapped, or otherwise tormented children. We all love a good bank robbery movie. There’s plenty of action and the best ones have a great storyline. But to draw us in to the action, movies often require us to completely forget about the reality of a bank. What we mean is simple. The reality of robbing a bank is completely different in movies than it is in real life. Movies don’t tend to, they Do over exaggerate a fairly large number of details involved in how banks operate. To that end, here are five things movies get completely wrong about banks. 1. Bank security guards are

I love The Help (2011). I don't care who knows it. So I'm immediately curious about Get On Up, Tate Taylor's follow up which reunites Minny & Aibileen though they both take a back seat since this time it's the story of rock legend James Brown (Chadwick Boseman). This trailer also starts with an affirmative.
You special. And your momma's a no account fool. But you ain't gonna be. One day everybody gonna know your name"

Okay so that's not as universal an affirmation but... wait. oh. That makes Viola Davis the 'no account fool'? Do over! Not sure I'm okay with this. Time for a Yes No Maybe So™...

Seasons of Bette. Episode 2. Nomination #1
As a sidebar to Anne Marie's "A Year With Kate" series (which I hope you're all enjoying as much as I am - see why I comissioned it?), I'm investigating each of Bette Davis's Oscar nominated performances as they appear within the Katharine Hepburn timeline. They're the two titan actresses of Old Hollywood so why not pair them even if indirectly? We previously looked at Of Human Bondage (1934) due to its write-in votes at the Oscars but technically-speaking Nomination #1 arrived the following year in Dangerous (1935).
This second Oscar hopeful is so like the first it's as if someone yelled "Do over! And get the nomination this time."
Again Bette Davis is pursued by a lanky gentleman and failed artist -- 1934's sap was Gone With the Wind's Leslie Howard and 1935 brings us Mutiny on the Bounty's Franchot Tone. They both do it...

Exclusive: Lifetime has greenlighted to pilot Unreal, a drama series project inspired by Sarah Gertrude Shapiro’s award-winning independent short film Sequin Raze, which starred Ashley Williams, Anna Camp and Frances Conroy (check out that trailer below). Marti Noxon (Mad Men, Fright Night) and Shapiro wrote Unreal, which goes behind-the-scenes of a hit competition dating show to follow the experiences of a young staffer whose sole job is to manipulate her relationships with (and among) the contestants to get the vital dramatic and outrageous footage the program’s producers demand. What ensues is a humorous, yet vexing, look at what happens in the world of unscripted television, where being a contestant can be vicious and producing it is a whole other reality. Sequin Raze, which premiered at this year’s SXSW, sparked interest from multiple networks before landing at Lifetime, which brought in Noxon. She will executive produce, with Shapiro serving as producer.

Over the years, it's given me no end of amusement to witness how often two different networks will develop what seems at first to be the exact same show in the exact same season, whether it's hospital dramas in Chicago ("ER" and "Chicago Hope" in 1994), adults traveling back in time to teenage years ("That Was Then..." and "Do Over" in 2002) or slackers with super powers ("Chuck" and "Reaper" in 2007). Even though many of these doppelgangers turn out to be fairly different in execution, something always seems fishy about the claims that the one show didn't know at first...

Here's the latest in Austin film news.
Disney has hired Dfw-area filmmaker (and former Austinite) David Lowery and producer Toby Halbrooks, whose film Ain't Them Bodies Saints premiered at Sundance this year, to script a remake of the animated movie Pete's Dragon. If this sounds unlikely, bear in mind that Lowery's first feature, St. Nick, was about two children who run away from home. And don't forget his short Pioneer, about a father and son. Finally?)Austin-based filmmaker Elizabeth Mims' documentary Only the Young (Elizabeth's Aff review), which follows three Southern California teenagers, will air July 15 on PBS's award-winning TV series Pov, according to Austin Movie Blog.In festival news, the Hill Country Film Festival announced its lineup last week, which includes the feature-length thriller The Iceman, starring James Franco, and the 2013 Academy Award-winning short Curfew. The festivities take place May 2-5 in Fredericksburg.

Tom Lin's latest endeavor may be his definite ticket to international recognition, if Starry Starry Night makes it out of Taiwan (always somewhat of a gamble). It's a film with enough potential to appeal to a wide audience while at the same time maintaining its artistic integrity and firm traces of Lin's own personal voice. One thing is certain though, the result is one of the sweetest and most endearing films of 2011, warmly recommended to brighten up one of the upcoming winter evenings. Lin has made some first-grade career choices these past few years. After brushing up his skills as first assistant director for a couple of quality productions (Spider Lilies, The Wayward Cloud, Do Over) and helming his very own first feature film...

Leighton Meester showed off her singing chops in "Country Strong." Now another "Gossip Girl" star -- Penn Badgley -- is playing a singer on the big screen. The 24-year-old actor has been tapped to play the Jeff Buckley in a new biopic entitled "Greetings From Tim Buckley," The Hollywood Reporter reports. It's the first film of the late rocker, who is best know for his cover of the song "Hallelujah." He drowned in 1997. The film's title comes directly from the name of a tribute concert Jeff performed for his father, Tim. "Greetings From Tim Buckley" was held in April of 1991, and is considered by many to have launched Jeff's career. The film will trace the days leading up to the concert. It's Mutant Week!
We haven't done a "Cast This!" in awhile. The X-Men franchise may have a disproportionate amount of blue members (Angel, Beast, Mystique, Nightcrawler) at various times in their long history but the color that keeps those movie mutants going is green. We haven't done a "Cast This!" in awhile. The X-Men franchise may have a disproportionate amount of blue members (Angel, Beast, Mystique, Nightcrawler) at various times in their long history but the color that keeps those movie mutants going is green. Eventually they'll get to all the characters if you keep buying your tickets. Or, they won't and they'll just keep redoing the few they've concentrated on. Though the website has been up before now with a few behind-the-scenes videos, yesterday marked the official launch of BlackBoxTV, as their first episode went live in the afternoon. The brain child of Philip DeFranco (The Philip DeFranco Show) and director Tony Valenzuela (Zombiez, 2009: A True Story, Harper’s Globe), the official website describes BlackBoxTV as “a series of video short stories that reach into the subject of fear. The things that terrify us and the things that make us want to curl into a ball and call out to our mothers or God or whoever we believe can save us.” If the first episode is any indication, the description is apt, and we may have the web heir-apparent to The Twilight Zone—a smart, dark speculative fiction anthology with a premise that seems versatile enough to jump from straight-up horror to thriller to sci-fi from episode to episode,...

Directors must ask themselves, on occasion; is it really worth being part of an omnibus film? Little if anything links the trio of short films featured in the anthology E.S.F. beyond the fact each director is an up-and-coming Taiwanese. Nothing wrong with that per se, but the three are so wildly disparate in tone, length and arguably quality, getting them as a package deal is surely set to sour the effect for some potential viewers.
The opening film comes from director Chang Rong-Ji, who previously helmed the 2006 documentary My Football Summer, about a junior high sports team and their performance in Taiwan's National High School Games. At thirty-seven minutes At the End of the Tunnel is the longest of the three shorts, the story of a blind music student (musician Huang Yu-Hsiang) and a dancer (Taiwanese star Sandrine Pinna, Yang Yang, Miao Miao, Do Over) who inadvertently meet in high school,...

'Stick to what you know' is theoretically sound advice that's launched many a promising career, but it's just as often led to aspiring writer/directors crowbarring the familiar in where it doesn't belong. Cheng Yu-Chieh's 2005 debut Do Over expended far too much effort working a mish-mash of garbled sub-plots and disparate visual styles around the central story of a director shooting a film he didn't believe in, and while the production values were fantastic the result was a pretentious mess that failed to make any lasting impact.
For his second feature, Yang Yang, Cheng brings back his most promising cast member - French-Taiwanese actress Sandrine Pinna, impressive in last year's winningly sweet little drama Miao Miao. The plot centres around Yang Yang, a Eurasian girl (like Pinna, half-French) struggling to balance her responsibilities to her new step-family with her inner conflict over her mixed parentage.

'Beautiful Strange' might be more apt. Little-known outside his home territory, director Chi Y. Lee's third film about the tangled relationships between three Taiwanese schoolgirls is the epitome of many an arthouse cliché (not to mention yet another entry in the country's very own sub-genre), and it never really does anything with the premise that comes off as truly startling or unexpected. But it is fantastically shot and scored, not to mention surprisingly heartfelt, even with its loose, hallucinatory structure and pacing.
There's Angel, Xiao-Bu and Ah Mi; one the extrovert, acting out in denial of her home life, the tiny, rundown flat she shares with her morbidly obese father; another the sensitive, concerned about her friends, wondering where their relationship is headed and the third the shy girl, tortured by her inability to reach out over what each of them is going through.

Ghost Whisperer attempts to spook viewers with its scariest episode yet tonight at 8pm on CBS. "Do Over," the fourth episode of the paranormal drama's fifth season, is primarily set in Grandview Hospital where operations are murder and where patients have their own beside manners.
Before anything else, here's what happened so far on Ghost Whisperer: Eli's dad, Ray, died of a heart attack and we finally learned that his diseased wife Evelyn and his business partner Ann had a thing going on, much to the surprise of Ray, Eli and Melinda. In the end, though, Eli's parents don't crossover, leaving the impression that we'll be seeing them again in the future.

Now a look back a few years to a little flick featuring the breakout performance from current Taiwanese box-office it girl Sandrine Pinna (Miao Miao, Yang Yang). Cheng Yu-Chieh’s debut feature film is the story of one seemingly innocuous event and how it leads several different people to think about how their lives have ended up. Are you going to want to give it another chance or will Do Over have you wishing you’d never watched it? Review after the break.

Although Ari Folman's "Waltz With Bashir" did not make the shortlist of 15 films under consideration for the best documentary Oscar, it is among the nominees for the DGA's doc award, announced Friday.
"Waltz" will compete with Gonzalo Arijon's "Stranded: I've Come From a Plane that Crashed on the Mountains," in which survivors of a 1972 Andes plane crash tell their story; Elizabeth Farnsworth and Patricio Lanfranco's "The Judge and the General," a look back at the investigation into the regime of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet; Peter Gilbert & Stevie James' "At the Death House Door," an examination of the wrongful conviction of a Texas man executed for murder; and James Marsh's "Man on Wire," a study of tight-rope walker Philippe Petit.
All the nominees are first-time DGA nominees, with the exception of Gilbert (who won the DGA's doc award in 1998 for "Vietnam: Long Time Coming" and was...

Back at the end of October Devin Faraci at Chud reported on a small bit of buzz he heard that Fox may be bringing back the "Apes" franchise in the form of a Planet of the Apes prequel to be called Genesis: Apes. The film would supposedly be along the lines of the origin story told in 1972's Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and was described as a story centering on a baby monkey raised in a human household showing signs of great intelligence and the ability to talk. The monkey grows up and sees its mother getting attacked, kills the attacker and is subsequently shipped off to an Ape Conservatory where he and the other apes are abused mercilessly. The story found a little traction online, but no real movement or excitment was generated... or was it? Faraci followed up his report with a new bit of...

Can’t wait for 30 Rock to return? Don’t. NBC.com has released the premiere episode of 30 Rock titled “Do-Over” a full week early for online viewing. The peacock has been getting into this concept of advanced online screenings pretty heavily lately, releasing shows like Knight Rider and My Own Worst enemy ahead of their air date in an effort to create a bit of a buzz boost. The results have not always been desirable. No doubt Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin’s signature riffing won’t disappoint 30 Rock fans though. The press has been calling for 30 Rock to sort of show us how it’s done when it returns in a season that has so far been a bit on the stale side. With Fey’s prominence in the political specutrum lately for her spot on impersonations of Sarah Palin, it’s hard to imagine 30 Rock doing anything other than blowing the doors off.

Photo: NBC Universal NBC has been slow to bring back "30 Rock" for whatever reason... The show just took home seven Emmy Awards back in September and unlike the majority of television shows it didn't immediately return to television on the heels of its win and the release of the second season of the show on DVD. However, NBC is making up for such a strange bit of botched promotion and giving everyone a chance to watch the first episode of the third season, "Do Over", for free at NBC.com and I just finished watching it and it is certainly a great start. The synopsis for the episode reads as: Liz tries to keep the "The Girly Show" staff from ruining her chances at adoption when an evaluator drops by the job. Tracy (Tracy Morgan) is bringing in major dollars from his bestselling...

Jessica Simpson's new album Do You Know is out today, and she got up bright and early to sing a few tunes for Gma this morning. Decked out in a dress from her upcoming line, Jess took the stage to perform "Come on Over" and her old hit "With You." She had a little mishap when she couldn't hear her music, but Jessica still kept a smile on her face for her fans. She also gushed a little about Tony's first win of the season and about how excited she is to be an aunt. Jessica recently talked about her plans to spoil her niece or nephew, but until the time comes she can enjoy a little bit of her own good news — her new album is already getting some good reviews! More of Jessica on stage if you just read more. Source...

The following contains Major Spoilers for the episode "I Do Over" from the SciFi Channel series "Eureka." Been there, done that. Déjà vu all over again. Are there any other clichés I can add that would reflect the tired, overused and clichéd nature of this episode of "Eureka?" This was another one of those "I keep living the same day over and over again" episodes that we've seen way too many times since "Groundhog's Day." And if you've seen one, you've seen them all (I knew I had another cliché in there somewhere). I generally hate these episodes because they include so much repetition. This technique of reliving the same moment is getting to be overused, but it can still work. It was done much better last year on "Supernatural" because of the elements of humor that were brought ...

The WB Network has given full-season pickups to two of its four new comedies, Do Over and Greetings From Tucson, while canceling the sophomore sitcom Off Centre. The WB is on track to go four for four on its new comedies, with back-nine orders said to be imminent for What I Like About You and Family Affair. The network already picked up its new family drama Everwood, and prospects are good for Birds of Prey. "In Greetings from Tucson and Do Over, we see two shows that have enormous potential, that have shown nothing but a strong learning curve as far as the kind of stories they want to tell," said Mike Clements, the WB's co-senior vp comedy development. For both comedies, the full-season pickup came after four airings.
