Shukuji is a satirical comedy about the custom of making long, flowery speeches on public occasions.
Ryosuke Saotome (Ichiro Zaitsu) is a long-serving section-chief who was asked to give a congratulatory speech at the wedding of the firm's managing director. Saotome sees the task as an opportunity to move up the ranks. Saotome consults manuals, seeks advice from all around him, and eventually comes up with what seems to be an appropriate address. However, at the day of the wedding, before he could take his turn to give his speech, he hears another person giving an address very similar to his.
